Re: Hyundai Verna key goes through a full washing machine cycle

Mostly keyfobs are designed to have some kind of water and dust resistant, IP67, 65 etc. As you can see the key have some silicone memberane and is cleverly packaged to avoid water ingress. When we design these keyfobs we normally keep some extreme use/absue cases in mind in our failure mode analysis, but still there are some chances of water entry especially in this specific case .
You have done a good thing by removing it and cleaning, as a small amount of moisture or water can seriously reduce your microswitch durability.

Re: Hyundai Verna key goes through a full washing machine cycle

3 years ago, same incident happened with me and my Aspire's key got complete wash in the washing machine. Its a flip key so the key blade has a rotating mechanism and I thought water must have entered through any crevice. In a hurry to figure out if the key was damaged, I wiped it and pressed all buttons and to my relief, everything worked as usual.

Have done this multiple times with my Cruze and Octavia keys. Yet try with the Audi, BMW and Maruti set.

Re: Hyundai Verna key goes through a full washing machine cycle

Looking at the replies here, it seems that almost every manufacturer have now made the keys water resistant to a certain extent, which is great to know and one less thing to worry about.
Thank you all, for your responses!

Re: Hyundai Verna key goes through a full washing machine cycle

For people who had the same incident as above, even if the keys are working I'll highly suggest to open the keys and clean up from inside.

Corrosion is a slow killer for electronics so even if the keys are working fine now, they might stop over time. Cleaning fron alcohol is some electronics cleaner would stop that from happening

Re: Hyundai Verna key goes through a full washing machine cycle

From one of my experiences where my phone was submerged in bucket, take a jar full of rice, keep the phone/any electronic device in it for 3-4 days and forget it.

Open it after 3-4 days and in my case the phone was working!
