Crack appears mysteriously on my Tata Nexon.EV tail-light

Noticed a crack on tail light, no signs of physical damage around the crack. Any idea what could've caused it?

I mailed Tata CS about the issue, and they requested a visit to the Service Center for inspection. I planned to visit last week, but I had to postpone. This week, I noticed water droplets in the front center DRL :

Same for the connected taillight as well:

They've agreed to replace the front DRL under warranty, but quoted 30k for the rear taillight citing external damage. (28k parts + 2k labour)
I don't see any visible damage marks except the crack on the rear taillight and surrounding areas. Could this be external damage or a manufacturing defect?

Update on my last post, the front DRL was replaced under warranty last week:

After my warranty claim for the tail lamp was denied due to physical damage, I contacted the customer care manager. He asked me to visit the service center, where they inspected the tail lamp assembly :

It was clear the crack originated from the back of the assembly, yet they've denied the warranty claim. I wanted to escalate further, but after the recent Mumbai rains, both my rear stop light and indicators stopped working. So, I've agreed to claim it under insurance because I don't want to drive the car without stop light and indicators. The replacement cost is 28K for parts and 2k for labour.

What is the point of warranty then ? And to add Tata dealers do mention to buy extended warranty.

If issues like this are not handled, what is the point?

Also unless it the lights not working and physical damage were not caused by accident, how could they deny it repairing/replacing it under warranty ?

After my post BHPian Enigmatic reached out and mentioned that a crack had mysteriously appeared on his tail lamp as well : https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offic...ml#post5741102 (2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review)

And after reading that thread, I've spotted multiple isolated cases with similar issue:

Since they had not started the insurance process, I collected the car from them and will be escalating this further with TaMo.

Re: Crack appears mysteriously on my Tata Nexon.EV tail-light

Now, that’s why I wouldn’t touch Tata cars with even a barge pole.
The thing I don’t understand is how do people still buy Tata cars? What peace of mind does it offer? Go to sleep every night hoping and praying your beloved car will work as it should?

If people stop buying Tata cars, wouldn’t it actually force them to have a proper QC?

I just hope the management from Tata motors don’t ever end up in Air India!

Re: Crack appears mysteriously on my Tata Nexon.EV tail-light

30 thousand for the rear light bar? wow, that is a sticker shock for me. Guess I like the old school simple bulbs.

Tata seems to have adopted the JLR global dna of nice looks, high safety, average performance and poor reliability. Guess you can’t get everything.

Re: Crack appears mysteriously on my Tata Nexon.EV tail-light

Looks like overtightening of the screw initiating the crack, then vibrations and shocks (while closing the boot) increasing it further.

As a stop gap arrangement, I would put silicone paste over the crack to prevent water ingress.

Re: Crack appears mysteriously on my Tata Nexon.EV tail-light

There is a miniscule chipping around the crack and I beleive they're clutching on to that to prove it is an external impact induced crack. Ideally, the back panel shouldn't be damaged in such impacts considering the hair line type of crack on the glass.

Have you had a chance to look at the front DRL assembly to see any cracks were there? After seeing the new Tata cars with dysfunctional or fogged up connected lights, this is probably an issue to be addressed by the OEM.

30k for the rear light assembly with labour! If I'm not wrong the outgoing Nexon tail assembly cost ~10k for a pair. This one cost almost 3 times of that.

Update : Replaced Under Warranty

Got the tail-light replaced under warranty at Heritage Motors yesterday :

This was my first interaction with TaMo customer support. Although they eventually resolved the issue, I hope they work on making the process smoother in the future. Also the quoted 30k was for all three rear tail-lamps, SA told me that they have to order the whole set as per policy.
