Took my Safari for 2nd free servicing at Devki motors, Pune.

They quoted the following AMC prices for the following scope:

2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review-amc.jpg

Quote:
Coverage:

Value Care Gold is a maintenance plan that guarantees protection against unexpected repair cost & Provides substantial savings thru protection against inflation & price volatility of lubricants during the running of the Vehicle.

Value Care Gold Plan covers the following:

Scheduled maintenance services at periodic interval of Kms for Labor, Parts & Consumables.

(a) Change of Oil Filter, Fuel Filter, Air Filter & Sedimenter.

(b) Change of Engine Oil, Transmission Oil, Power steering Oil*.

(c) Change of Coolant, Brake Oil & Clutch Fluid*.

(d) General Check up, Wheel Alignment / Balancing Labour (Excluding Balancing Weight)

(e) Washing of Vehicle, Wheel greasing*.

(f) Top up of Engine Oil, Coolant, Brake oil

Repair or Replacement of Wear & Tear Items for Parts & Labour.

(a) Brake Pad, Brake Liner, Wheel Cylinders

(b) Clutch Disc, Clutch Cover, Cables, Mountings.

(d) Suspension Bush, Wiper Blade , Auxiliary Belt & other Wear & Tear Items

(e) Washing of Vehicle, Wheel greasing

Exclusion :

Charges of wheel balancing weights.

Charges for gas filled / top-up in AC system.

Charges (Labor + Parts + Consumables) for any repairs not mentioned above, and not covered under schedule maintenance service, which are neither covered under the Company's warranty nor this program as the case may be.

Service on the basis of Month/Year elapsed.
Further, they said that the AMC start date will be treated as the purchase date, no matter when you buy the AMC. If you buy later, and have already paid for some covered expenses, those will be lost.

Firstly I find the prices to be very high and secondly the above practice to be quite illogical.

Seek views from fellow forum members on this deal.

Further, a separate topic, they have given the attached estimate for the servicing:

2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review-estimate.jpg

Most other reviews said 2nd service consists of just DEF top up.

At 3700km I argued that WA/WB may not be needed, but they insisted on it, finally I said ok. I said no to ac duct cleaning.

Wonder if they are into hard sale of things - is it just this workshop or it's a trend everywhere in TASS?

This does not look right and clearly they have cross sold a few things to you.
I too did my second service just few days back for my pre facelift Aug 2023 Safari. I clearly said no to ac duct cleaning etc. But they were still able to add lubrication charges ( i wonder what does the service cover then? ?/) and.the sunroof lubrication for 300 odd.

What is this WA WB by the way?
Edit-
Got it - wheel balance and wheel alignment. Not needed if no left or right pull issue.

And was your def really low? I know for sure that if it's above or near 50% then it cannot accommodate 10 litres. So I had told them to only top up 5 litre and give me another 5 litre can to keep.
If you were around 50%, challenge them on the 10 litre top up.

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I've been active on the forum. I've been busy, but my new Safari facelift just hit 5,000 kilometers two weeks ago and everything was running smoothly. However, things went downhill after I updated the software to the January 2024 version last Saturday (March 9th) at Derik Trivandrum.

1. Software update issue: Took my Safari to Derik Trivandrum on Saturday (March 9th) for a software update. After an hour, the service advisor (CSE) falsely claimed the car was ready, despite the infotainment system still showing the outdated October 2023 version. When I questioned this, they initially provided blatantly wrong information, stating the update wasn't for the infotainment system. Fortunately, I confirmed this was absurd through our Safari owner group. Following my complaint, they finally admitted the update failed and had to resort to a cumbersome workaround. They downloaded the update on a thumb drive and installed it separately for the infotainment system (if their explanation is even accurate). While this eventually resolved the update issue, the entire experience raises serious concerns about their service competence.

2. New bug: Now, whenever the lane departure warning comes on, the dashboard display automatically switches to the "Driver Assist" menu, regardless of what screen I'm currently on (fuel efficiency, maps, etc.). I've tried restarting and resetting the system to no avail. I mentioned this to the service advisor today, and they simply said it's a bug and to wait for the next software update.

3. Unresolved Existing Issues: The FM reception is still poor, and the rear AC can't be switched on from infotainment system.

4. Battery draining - After the software update on March 9th, I went for a long drive on Tuesday (March 12th). The car was parked for the rest of the week until Saturday (March 16th). When I tried to start it for a family outing, the battery was completely dead! I called roadside assistance (RSA) and they confirmed a drained battery. They advised me to minimum use the car once in a week (didn't waste time narrating my trips). Check engine was lit and I took the car for a drive to ensure the battery is fully charged. Magically Check engine disappeared the next day morning!

5. Service Concerns: No seat cover used - the service technician arrived without a seat cover. This resulted in grease stains on my pristine white interior. Only after raising my voice about this unacceptable carelessness did someone finally bring a seat cover.

6. Battery checked and concluded no issue: Although they checked the battery health and said it was fine, they couldn't identify the cause of the drain. They suggested it might be a light or accessory left on, but I always use the automatic settings for headlights and wipers. Finally, after removing the engine bay cover (which I wasn't too happy about), they concluded everything looked fine but couldn't pinpoint the cause of the drain.

Overall, I'm quite disappointed with Tata aftersales. They couldn't diagnose the battery drain issue, and the service experience left a lot to be desired. There's a new Tata service provider in town called Luxon Tata, and I'll definitely be considering them if these problems persist. Tata needs to improve the reliability of their cars and provide more robust service with proper supervision. Their products have the potential to be world-class, but these issues are holding them back.

Luxon is from Nippon Toyota group and hope they will deliver something similar to the toyota experience.

They are part of the same family. May be close relatives. Please check the websites of Nippon , Incheon and Luxon. You will see the difference.

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

I had been to Tata motors service center in Gurgaon (Arya) for the initial issues like water seeping in LED tail lamp and poor FM reception.
Service center informed that these both issues have been reported to tata motors already due to many customers having the same problems. For LED tail lamp - new part will be released in some time by tata, and for FM issue a software patch is expected.
They have asked me to wait for a month approximately.

On my other issue of IRA not connecting, escalating to IRA support over mails and then via call helped. It started working from today.

I too had the water seeping issue in the rear connected lightbar. It was replaced by an upgraded part sometime last month and I have not had any issues since. Hence it seems that an upgraded part has already been released by Tata.

You might want to check on the above with the Tata ASS. I can share details of the part number etc if required.

Best,

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

Have covered ~3600KMs and no major problems faced yet. Car is still driving quite well and I still look forward to my daily drives.

Noting down some issues I have been facing (OR continue to face):
  • Setting changes do not stick for long. This one is an annoying niggle. Setting changes like "Car seat easy entry/exit off", Audio equalizer customizations, System voice volume get reset by itself after a few days and I have to do these changes all over again!
  • Radio reception is still very bad (Infotainment SW version is still Sep 2024 as service center did not update it on my last visit)
  • Last few days, a new issue has cropped up. MID screen is showing service reminder warning along with a orange logo of a spanner next to the "parking brake engaged" logo (See image attached below). It prompts to clear the warning by long-press of OK button. I did it but the warning comes back (with a different KM value) after restart of car. Note that my first free service was done in due time in January and next one is due in 6months. So, clearly this reminder is an error. I am yet to talk to Tata service about it.

Service reminder warning:

By the way, I received a call from Kropex motors GM (after sales) yesterday. It was in context of the problems/niggles I shared on this thread. Looks like Tata motors is taking the complains shared here seriously. He apologized for all the trouble and mentioned that they are working on enhancing the service experience for customers by adding more workshops in Bangalore. He also offered to contact him directly in case I face any issue with service. His tone was sincere and I conveyed my appreciation to him for reaching out. I really hope Tata motors uses all the genuine feedback shared here to get better.

Very good to hear the positive response from Tata. We have a booking for Harrier Fearless + AT at Adishakti Cars, Nagavara in our family. My uncle is looking to upgrade his SX4. He absolutely fell in love with the Harrier/Safari twins and decided the Harrier since he did not need a 7 seater. It did such a wonder on him that even the XUV700 did not amaze him much. Though they are excellent products, the niggles being reported on this forum and also in several YouTube videos is worrying me a bit, considering that he is coming from a Suzuki and his bandwidth for niggles is pretty low. I even shared him my concern but he is ready to take the "calculated risk". My father himself owns a Tata (Nexon EV Max) and we have faced some niggles with the car initially(it has mostly been running smooth after they were fixed), my bandwidth for minor niggles is considerably high as I believe that a good product must not be rejected just for minor issues, until and unless they have serious design flaws or hardware issues with them. But same cant be said for a person who is 60+ and not much technically into cars. Hence I keep an eye the Harrier/Safari threads everyday for any user experience updates and the ones like yours gives me some assurance. Please keep us all updated about your ownership experiences.

Based on my research till now, following are the issues I can see user complaining of:
1) Software issues (Not a dealbreaker at least for me, as it can anyway be fixed through software updates)
2) FM reception issue which still remains unresolved.
3) Water in taillamp : I think Tata already has a fix and is replacing the part in existing cars.
4) Some issues cropping up with ADAS. Most of them were due to some dealers fixing the HSRP incorrectly, obstructing the RADAR unit.

Apart from the case where there was an issue with the mood lighting which made the dealer strip the entire car, I don't see any other user reporting major issues with hardware or mechanicals. I just wish Tata fixes everything soon, as these issues are what is killing an otherwise excellent product. We have decided to get the PDI done from Zekardo to minimize the chances of getting a lemon.

Also, can you please share which service center did you find the best ( or have heard from others) in Bengaluru? I tried to research but I dont see much info on the forum about user experiences about different TASS centres in Bengaluru. I just see people bashing all of them outright . I have only found a couple of users reporting positive reviews about Prerana, Peenya and Classic, Yeshvantapura.

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

Hello All,

Here is my review after a 2000KM trip from HYD to my hometown and back.

Overall the vehicle ran great from the mechanical perspective. I mean - pickup, breaking, lights, handling, ride comfort etc. All went fine. Got a mileage of around 15.5 KMPL as it was mostly highway drive.

I got the vehicle 1st servicing done before this long trip. They top-upped the DEF, updated the software to Jan 2024 version.

Now back to niggles.

1. After s/w update the "Rear AC" option started working. How it works is - IF the AC is ON on 3rd row, then this is by default ON on the infotainment option. You can switch it OFF from here - works.
BUT - now with this option working - I found that the AC temperature doesnt go up/down rather it keeps it at very low of around 18C

2. FM Reception is still Bad. I was told by ASS that Tata will release an update so waiting waiting

3. Android Auto Music disconnects sometime when I switch the indicator on-off and something is on blind spot so alert comes. The map works but then music sound doesnt come like the audio is supressed with indicator alert. You have to switch off the car and turn it back on for it to work. I guess someone else also pointed this out.

4. Indicator alert, if someone is on blind spot, is sometimes VERY loud that it scares the hell. Did try to lower the notification volume but not that useful.

5. Someone did mention - whenever the lane departure warning comes on, the dashboard display automatically switches to the "Driver Assist" menu, regardless of what screen I'm currently on (fuel efficiency, maps, etc.). Annoying.

6. AEB-FCW error couple of times so this is bit scary as I am not sure if it works or not.

7. Strangely, automatically the 360-degree parking sensors went off and didnt gave any alarm while i was parking last week. I went to settings and toggled them on-off and it again started working.

8. My old issue of vehicle going back to CITY mode after 5-10mins of driving in ECO still persists.

9. Memory seat failure. received many times so now getting habituated to manually changing the position

Living with these all !!! and awaiting some miracle to happen that one fine day I get up from sleep and it all goes away

Cheers.

I have heard Peenya service is really good. One of my friend had taken his vehicle somewhere in October last year and he was very happy with the service over there. Key Motors in Kanakapura has been okish not that great.
I also had the FM reception issue on my Nexon 24 model but with the software update issue has been resolved.

I only have service experience at Kropex Singasandra and as you can see from my previous posts, I would not recommend it. I am going to try (with fingers crossed) Prerana motors (Kudlu gate) next in June.

The Kropex GM, during his call, mentioned that they are building a new service workshop in same area (I can see it is already under construction) and he expects that service experience will be much better after that. Based on his assurances, I will give them a try at some point later.

Happy to report that the Tata ASS was able to sort out the squeaking sound from the rear during the first service. It seemed to have been coming from the rear tailgate. They adjusted it and did some lubrication and the sound has thankfully gone. Hoping that it does not reappear.

Separately, I noticed a small crack on the rear connected light bar . At first I thought it was caused by the Tata ASS during the first service however upon reviewing the photos I took of the car before handing it over for the first service, I noticed that the crack was visible. I am utterly confused as to how this crack appeared. I have secure parking at home and office and I refrain from giving my car to any valet. Certainly don't recall any impact from the rear and neither are there any other impact marks on the rear tailgate. Also, the crack is at a conspicuous position (near the left lamp of the rear numberplate). Utterly confused on how this happened. Sharing a photo below:

Hello Enigmatic, can you share the updated part number for led connected tail light?
On the crack, it could have happened when tailgate was being adjusted or your led light was being changed.
