I was confident with my purchase having chosen a Kia over the likes of VW and Skoda. Kia I believed being a sister company of Hyundai would give me a bliss and problem free ownership like that of the i20. I was soon to find out what an infuriating and problematic car and post sales service felt like.
I'll suggest using MyKIA app to schedule a running repair and list your problems there. ASC can not remove those and will be documented.

I've a Sonet GTX diesel AT and there's a very mild rubbing noise when accelerating, audible only when beginning to accelerate and only on quiet smooth roads. JSP KIA, Hosur road changed drive belt tensioner, but the noise is still there. They said it is normal with diesel engines.

Anybody have similar problems? Any diesel automatic owners of Kia can help me out?

I had a similar but not so hazardous exchange. As is the OPs habit I too change my engine oil after an initial run in of 2k kilometers. Not willing to change this habit, I asked for an engine oil change at the first service of my Tata Safari at 2k kms. The amount of grumbling from the managers and the technicians bore a striking semblance to a ruckus. "Kaun 2k km me engine oil change karata hai" was the most commonly heard statement. I didn't give in and had it changed.

I guess this attitude of theirs springs from the need of having a lesser turnaround time combined with a greater volume of cars that are coming in for service. Hope your car gets well soon.

Manufacturers do not have our best interests at heart when making decisions on service/oil change intervals, grade of engine oil used etc.

1) Thinner engine oil being used - KIA currently uses 0w20 engine oil in their engines. This is specifically used to extract more efficiency from the engine at the cost of lubrication.

2) Longer oil change intervals - service centres need to recommend 5000km oil changes to most people as they drive under severe use case under the owners manual. But they do not.

3) The main aim of the manufactures is to make sure that the engine make it through the warranty period without any major issues after that they do not care.

Re: My bitter experience owning a 2024 Kia Seltos 1.5L DCT GTX Plus

It is with a great deal of amusement that I read all these posts justifying regular oil changes at reduced intervals and patting each other on the back. I have nothing against these practices but as an engineer with a few decades of practice and a certain degree of hands on experience with engines/machinery of all hues and sizes, I would like to state the following:-

1. First oil change at a reduced interval - this is a legacy of old engines with crude manufacturing methods and even worse/primitive materials. This is not really needed in the 21st century. However, nothing wrong with it as most of us believe in being better safe than sorry.

2. Manufacturers should recommend higher frequency of oil change - as false as it gets. Manufacturers are already laughing their way to the bank with these high frequency oil changes as they ensure that an entire service is scheduled around this. Any half decent oil (including mineral oil) of the correct grade will last you for 10,000km even in our conditions. Anything more is overkill.

3. Manufacturers deliberately prescribe thinner grade oil rather than a thicker one to reduce marketed cost/km - this is an absolutely ridiculous statement. It is strongly recommended not to deviate from the oem grade of oil as these are not prescribed lightly. Using xW40 instead of xW20 could, in certain cases, cause lubricant film failure. Just for info, Maruti also recommends 0W20. The one time you could change the grade of oil is if you see yourself operating the vehicle for prolonged periods in conditions outside the prescribed operating envelope stated in your manual. e.g. If you were to operate in sub zero for over say 6 months, you could consider changing from 10w30 to 0w30 and similarly to 10w40 from 0w30 if you are going to be in a high temperature zone for a longish time. Even here, a majority of the engine manuals clearly state what’s advisable and what’s not.

4. Manufacturers just want to ensure incident free operation till warranty period - I understand and sympathise that one is disappointed with the ASS but cannot comprehend that you actually believe in this statement. Can you imagine the brand value then? How do you think they’ll differentiate between a standard 2 year warranty and an extended 5/6/7 year warranty? This has to be the surest way to kill your product and the company. Would anyone even buy any product from such a company? Let’s use some degree of discretion before making sweeping statements on a forum of this stature please.

While it’s ok to follow reduced change intervals for oil change from a peace of mind point of view, it does not really serve a purpose. There’s no end to it also then.

Strong suggestion - please read through your own manual rather than rely on anecdotal/ hearsay/ WhatsApp knowledge (including this post). You could start off by reading about the nomenclature of oil first which is very simple to understand. Also, you will learn to look past the marketing fluff yourself with a little bit of experience.

Wishing you a quick resolution to your complaints.

I faced exactly the same issues that you faced. The EMS light used to turn on and vehicle even turned off by itself after that. It happened to me a few times and I too had to make 3 visits. After that, they changed O2 sensor. Didn't face that issue again after that. However, once in a while I feel the car refuses to accelerate. Especially in 1st or 2nd gears. It's as if it's about to turn off. Even though this is very rare after sensor replacement, it still happens. I got the same variant of car in April 2024. Sensor was replaced 2 3 months back.
