I had an oil leak due to the shifter oil seal breaking off. Since i did not have the time to get it replaced, i topped up the oil las saturday & it consumed half a litre of oil. Could that have been the root cause ?

I can't say correctly, but it should have been done some 7 months back.

Yeah, i have been charged for it, so it should have been done (in April 2007)

My mechanic's suggestion was to replace the oil seal & top up the oil level & see what happens. He is sure that the sound will go away. Hope he is right.

Hi, I have an issue with my Esteem Clutch, its becoming hard day by day. Recently gaved it for service highlighting the issue. The mechanic was informing that the clutch cable is to be serviced. Asked them to go ahead, but even after doing that, still i have the same problem.

Can anyone please help on this

UPDATE :

I changed the oil seal & as suggested i changed the oil too, but the problem still continued. Took the car to an ex-Electra mechanic(on headers' suggestion) who has set up a nice workshop near my house . He was able to pin point the problem immediately.

The gear shift rod was bent which was pushing the gears out of alignment (as far as i understood). So he had to align the gears & changed the shift rod & my esteem is back in good shape.

he first changed the shift rod alone (1 day) & gave back the car for me to use during christmas. Then he took another day to do the rest. The total cost came up to Rs.3,651 which included new oil (changed to better grade) & new bosch wipers.

Glad that your gear shift problem has been sorted out. Gear shifts play a great role in providing driving comfort, esp in city.

It's been a learning for me. The gear shift rod will be checked in future, if I ever face difficulty in shifting.

Arrey. I've used them on my car. Wonderful stuff. Replacing the blades is the simplest DIY. Cost around 350-400.
*hmm...must get a pair for myself when I replace my windshield*

Hey,

Change your Gearbox oil and pls use 30 gms of Boric acid(Carrom Board Powder) with that, You'll feel a lot more difference with that,

Your humming noise will drasticly reduce and no after effects with that, My M-800, Matiz and My VW are running fine with this combination for almost 1 yr.

The bosch wipers cost me Rs.356 or 365, not sure of the exact price. They are super good, only my windshield has quite a few scratches.

That would work out to approximately 50% of the cost of your windshield.
