My car has done 132k and the engine is still extremely free revving than many younger cars, and trust me i did a PUC check after that and to my surprise the emission levels were even lower than earlier, But first check if you clutch has any problems before getting this done, to check this just drive your car from stand still in the second gear and see if it jerks or struggles to pull, if so you know what to replace.

Hi Pramod,

How do I make sure catalytic converter is clogged. Is there any test we can run to make sure catalytic converter is clogged. I know this is the problem but just wanted to be sure.

Your car 132 k !!! Amazing.

Thanks,
Nagaraj

Start the car in the morning and see if the exhaust smells like rotten eggs, this will just tell you if the catlytic converter is fine or not, not clogged or not, For that you have to get to a empty stretch and slot in first and then keep flooring the pedal till the red line and shift, to see if the car struggles without any RPM Raise (if the RPM raises in 3 gear and the car is still struggling then its the clutch).

Cats dont get clogged so early. Do you do a lot of short drives.

Inspect the whole exhaust system to make sure there is no dent that is causing a flow restriction.

Best way to check if it is the cat is to take it out and run it with a test pipe.

Week days it is to office and back which is 10KM one way. I do long drives quite often. I have not observed any problems on long drives. The car moves like as if there was nothing happened.
I will get the exhaust system checked to see if there are any dents which are blocking.
Thanks all for suggestions. I had alomost decided to sell this car. But now I have dropped that idea as my family loves this car.

But the sudden power loss problem still exists. It engine just stops and moves after resting for couple of mins.
I am also facing the same issue with my Corsa 1.4 the ignition coil was replaced but still no solution.

As and when I am in a severe Bumper to Bumper traffic the RPM starts dropping below 900 mark, seems like engine is revving on 3 cylinders but the moment I come to an open road it flies like a bullet.

Tried lifting the car in 2nd gear it manages to lift with slight jerks. Car gets regularly serviced at Nikhil Auto (Authorised GM Service St) but they have no clue.

Any suggestions???

Its always a good idea to change the spark plugs and HT cables along with ignition coil.

If that doesn't solve the issue, I would suspect clogged fuel filter, or fuel pump.

I agree with dhanushs. Change the spark plugs and try. It worked for me. Hopefully it would fix the problem.

Re: Opel Corsa 1.4 - trouble

I had a similar issue, turned out that it was due to over-heating. Check up if the coolant flow system, sometimes it can get choked and the engine overheats. Like all of you mention, it happens only after 10-15 mins or when you try to floor it. Also double check if the fan is working, if it won't, the same issue. Have a opel corsa sail 1.6

Does this happen all the time or when the fuel is nearing Reserve (just before the fuel icon turns red)?

In either case, you need to get the fuel pump checked. I've been thru' this problem; had to change the fuel pump.

Re: Opel Corsa 1.4 - trouble

Have any of you managed to get hold of the Opel Corsa Repairs / Service Manual?

I have started noticing there are very few Opel Mechanic left in most GM service centers. And local mechanics will mess up you car and is best to avoid.
Hence i guess its time to keep the service and the parts manual for holding on to this machine for a longer duration.
On googling i found a german version of the service manual and i can't understand a thing in it.

Incase any of you have acquired a Parts / Service manual please share the same with me.

Thanks
Prithvi
