Screeching noise from tyres/wheels

Hello Friends,

While driving my SWIFT,I have noticed a strange screeching noise from the wheels/tyres (like they show in movies). The noise is heard usually when I am turning my car into my society internal roads, taking a uturn on roads and while I am taking it off on first gear on a not so good surface road.

This has started about a month back.Till this time there was no such sound.

I am slightly worried. Please let me know what may be the possible causes of this and what action should I take.

Raja - From your description I gather this only happens on the interior roads of your colony & not out on the normal roads, right??

If that is the case, there is no problem with the tyres, it's just that some surfaces make the tyres emit that sound sue to their construction. (I don't have the technical details on this) And this is nothing to be worried about.

Hi,

It also happens on the main roads when I am taking an u-turn or turning my vehicle.

Have you upgraded your tyres? If so what is the size? This will atleast help the experts out here to rule out any tyre fouling with the wheel wells or so.

i understand that this problem occurs when you are taking sharp/u turns . in that case, just get it checked if your tyres are rubbing against the mud flap or any other part within the wheel arch.

Wheel Alignment should do the trick. It is usually required every 6 months when the roads on which the car is usually driven aren't good.

a) yup some times the squealing sound can come due to the surface, esp concrete inside malls etc.
b) what kind of speed do you take turns? stock tyres can squeal at slightest provocation.
c) check wheel alignment, have seen this helping to get rid off some squeals.

I think this is common to all swifts.. i usually notice it while climbing in my office parking(multi floor)

what i feel is, when a new tire moves on a smooth surface this sound comes..but not sure why only when it moves in u turn or a loop

JK tires perhaps ?

U-turns & noise? Are you sure the sound is coming from the tyres and not from another part of the vehicle? It could be the suspension, or (God forbid) the axle. Did your swift run over a deep pothole at high speed a month ago?

Either way, better go show it at the Maruti workshop, they'll sort it out.

@vinit: are you referring to wheel alignment for Rs 1000? No way, it will max cost 200 to 250 bucks. Even if balancing is also done along with it will come to some 800 bucks.

800 is on much higher side Jaggu. Wheel alignment and balancing should not cost more than 450-500 rs. 250 for alignment and 200-250 for balancing (Based on weights used (Alloys are expensive) and if all the 5 tyres are balanced or not).

Rs 100-200 for alignment and Balancing depends on the weights used..it also depends on the car..

My vendor, charges 100 for Esteem, and 150 for OHC.
