1600 RPM at start - Swift Dzire Zxi

Of late, the RPM of my Swift Dzire Zxi at ignition switch on is quite high.

It typically goes all the way upto 1400-1600 rpm and then drops to 1200 rpm or so in about a minute (of idling - if I allow it).

Its only when I engage the first gear and start moving and then later check, say during stop over at signals or before switching off, that rpm is at around 800 during neutral gear.

Is this pattern normal or is something wrong ?

i think every car is same like that!! my wagon r also shows this indication!! i think its because of auto choke acting everytime we start the engine!! after a minute it comes to right rpm say 800. its quite normal!!
its my view, let the gurus speak the rest!!

It is normal!

If the rpm remains high after a few mins, there is a problem. Else its just the normal functioning of the ECU.

On my Swift petrol which shares the same engine with the Dzire, upon a cold start the RPM starts at 1100-1200 rpm for a few seconds and settles at around 800 rpm after that. Much lower than reported in the Dzire above.

Even in my Swift P the Rpm touches 1300-400 every morning i start then it goes below to 1000 RPM mark after a min or so. I guess its normal. Nothing to worry buddy.

Well, even our Baleno, when started cold, would idle at a higher rpm and then after initial run, will reduce rpm.

OT: This happens in my sister's Bajaj Kristal also.

It's normal as long as you don't press accelerator while starting.

Its normal, My Petrol even its more for first 2 minutes because technology is like that to make vehicle ready with proper temperature to start moving.

Within 2 minutes even sound settles down because RPS goes down and vehicle sounds silky smooth almost no sound, thats how my Innova starts moving first time every day when its started.

Regards,

Ravi.

As it is petrol is expensive. On top of it, this? High idling rpm only means more fuel burning. Yes, I have seen this in almost all MPFI petrol cars. Wonder why it doesn't happen in diesel cars.

When this happens, instead of waiting for a minute, try jerking the accelerator pedal. I mean give a short burst of rev-up and let go and watch the tacho needle drop to 825-850 rpm. Alternatively you may also slot in first gear and ease off on clutch pedal without pressing accelerator pedal and as the vehicle moves and engine takes the load, rpm drops.

Swift startup RPM issue...

As soon as I start my swift after its cooled down the rpm goes high.

During morning start-up my car rpm goes to 2000rpm in 1sec it comes down to nearly 1700rpm then 1600rpm then 1400rpm then 1300rpm.. then remains the same for some seconds and then comes to 1000rpm and then does a bit low.

Is this normal? Is something wrong with my car? This things is happening from a very long time.

This happens to my swift as well. I confirmed with MASS and few other swift owners, this is normal. Only a matter of few seconds after cold start, then the idle stays normal.

@humm

Yup, its normal.
This happens with cars with "electronic" brains (read, new generation cars where there is a DPS which controls most of the engine parameters. Commonly knows and ECU) and its normal.

No need to worry, drive on, drive safe

if u find it too intrusive and it doesnt stop then just switch off your car, and restart it. this fools the ecu in thinking its not a cold start.. i do that everyday!
