So here is the problem I am facing in my safari after a recent alternator work and oil change, diesel filter change.

Starting trouble - occasionally.

When the vehicle is hot(like switched off at signal) or cold (like morning, or after more than 1 hours of 'rest'), no problem. The vehicle starts at half crank.

Between 15 mins and about an hour after the vehicle is switched off, the vehicle 'sometimes' takes 2-3 cranks.

Why? Please help. Earlier it used be half crank always.

P.S. They did have some trouble in priming the pump after diesel filter change. Also, battery was replaced 6 months back.

please: Please help on the above. I am going for a 3k kms trip next weekend.

Suman, this problem seems almost certainly to be linked to the diesel filter change.
It is being caused by a vapour lock taking place in the fuel lines.
Get the fuel lines purged and re-tightened thoroughly.
Vapour lock will form more in a hot engine and it takes a few minutes time for the vapour to form; which is why at signals (short stay) and in the mornings (cold engine) you do not see the problem.

hey sorry for not replying fast. I got the normal tuning box not the pro as the pro offered marginal higher power than the normal one which was also cheaper for me but it will be definitley better . And the fuel efficieny has not changed its same as before 11 kmpl with. Ac and full load.

Quick question -
Lately i have noticed the cooling fan noise a lot more than before when driving in the sun even though the temp needle is in the middle.

To check on this I opened the hood for my 2.2 Safari today to check on the coolant level this morning. Though the coolant level in the plastic Auxiliary Tank was fine, the thing i noticed on opening the cap on the aux tank was that there was no coolant flow from the cap to the tank (there is a tube attached to the cap and my guess was that this is used to pump coolant back to the tank). Wanted to check if this normal?

Get your radiator flushed and cleaned with compressed air- what you have described in terms of fan noise sounds like a case of clogged radiator.

Himanshu, the radiator was changed in Dec last year to fix a long running coolant leak issue.
Was hoping you would say that is normal and i could avoid another entertaining trip to TASS.:Frustrati

A clogged radiator should make the engine temperature go v high. So this may be the belt noise? Or hope your fan is not too close to the condenser.it happened in my truck, and as a result the condenser also got damaged.

Safari Gurus,

I need your valuable suggestions here. I am taking my truck for a 3k kms trip this Friday. (Bangalore - Goa - Mumbai - Shirdi - Bangalore).

I took her to a general check up yesterday at a local mechanic (Known to me since last 5 years) and got all 4 break shoes cleaned, oil levels and coolant levels checked. Got the Battery checked. All 4 wheels balanced and allignment done. Earlier I had changed the front break pads at 15K service.

Now please let me know if I have to get her checked for any other technical aspects.
My truck has run 27200 kms (15 months old truck) till now and will be leaving for 30k kms service once I return back from the trip.

@Mods,
Forgive me and Please move this post to the correct thread if it is not posted at the right place.

Fuses ! Yah! Get that! would be though to get it from local shops. And head lamp bulbs too IMHO.
Also, get fuel from good/recommended fuel stations.

Yes. The last time I changed the Engine oil of my truck was at 15K .

Soon after I return back from this trip I will be leaving her for service.

I had changed the wiper blades recently. Thanks for that. Anyways I will keep an extra set of Wiper blades and also the headlamp sets.

Now I need some help - and from those who have some experience of this and can really advise -

My Safari Dicor 3L (Run 42,500 Kms) started to make a sharp metal rubbing noise on bumps from few days ago. If I recollect well, this happened next day after a sharp breaking incident when the car skid a little.

I took it to TASS and they told me that Rear coil springs have become soft and the coils are rubbing against each other on jumps. I have noticed that this sound comes on small bumps only and specially when its an uneven bump and the rear rocks a little. On a straight bump, it does not make any sound however huge the bump is

I have been advised to change the coils and the new ones are of Safari 2.2. They say its the same coil but better built and stronger. The cost is Rs 1918 each plus taxes. Another rs 250 for rubber pads/seat and labour additional.

My Questions:

1.) How immediate is the need to replace? TASS says not immediate but I am having a psychological feeling now that car is rocking/dwindling a lot from rear

2.) If I dont change the springs now, will it have effect on other shock absorbers and reduce their life?

3.) If I dont change the springs now, will it lead to more tyre wear?

I dont really mind changing them now since its an unavoidable expense - if not today, i will have to get it done tomorrow.

I just want to make sure the diagnosis is correct and it should not be the case that after changing the coils they figure out that the issue was somewhere else.

Also, If I do this, I also plan to get the suspension bushes change. They are 40% worn right now,

regards

Rajeev

Faced a problem with my 3.0L at recent Udaipur trip:

When we stopped at a roadside shop for some breakfast, and came back, unlocked the car with remote, inserted keys in ignition and twisted to start the car only to realize that there was nothing happening. I mean odo was blank, engine was'nt craking, I called my mechanic and he said to check fuses, the fuses were alright, he then asked if the immobiliser lock is blinking, no it was'nt (meaning the car is unlocked, the remote is working). After fiddling for around 15 mins suddenly everything came back to normal. I cranked the engine and it started. Don't know what might have happened.

Anybody if have faced similar issue please clarify.

My Advise to be on the safer side - replace the battery in the Remote. Though chances are remote some times weak battery may not activate/deactivate immobiliser. Hence just to be safe and sure - replace the battery first...

Then you may want to get your starter motor checked, car battery checked etc..
