Now you guys are scaring me. I thought it to be a simple faulty spring attached to the paddle :Frustrati

Why do you worry when you have an warranty given by Tata, who replaces parts without any hestation under warranty.

Oh yes! Do have the scanner and a licensed version of TorquePro. :)

Hopefully, it is just the MAF sensor, for which I have the CRC cleaner.

Will have a look at it when I am back in India, hopefully soon. Fortunately, vehicle isn't being driven much now.

I have the free version. For error codes free version of TorquePro is enough. It can read and clear the error codes.

Tanveer, can you recommend a suitable OBD scanner and where i can find one.

Yesterday, I was getting my ARIA checked up prior to long trip at Concorde, Hosur road.
Was talking to senior service guy at Concorde about MAF sensor while cleaning the air filter. He is telling MAF sensor at the most costs Rs 3000/-
He said MAF sensor for Petrol version of Safari was costly.
Bosch make MAF is costly, but TATA is using Seiman's one. (costs only half of what Bosch one)

I use a cheap generic ELM 327(the kind you find in aliexpress etc.,) - cost me about 11$

I had a failure and checked with Tata for order. It was about 6000+.
So I went to scrap market. After trying out three pieces, finally found one in working condition. cost me 1200 INR.

I am using Blue ELM mini. Bought from ebay costing Rs 700. This is workign perfectly with my safari

The 5-10$ OBD ELM327 sensors work fine for error codes. But I have seen, that in the Safari, they cannot read much data like MAF sensor output, EGR, emission and stuff.
For full readout, I guess you need something more capable, like AUTEL

But at 38$, this is significantly more expensive. More useful for somebody running an independent garage I guess

I've a 2010 Safari 2.2 GX. I just did 550 km drive and noticed that steering was shaking slightly at 120 kmph. Thought vehicle needs alignment. It was serviced at tasc two months back. The alignment guy told me that there is some play in front wheels and I need to get it checked before I do the alignment. Now my question. Is is possible? And what's the culprit? And secondly can I undertake drive back home 550 kms and get it checked ar my regular TASC?

The center link road could be the culprit here. Get your front suspension checked. Have you ever had bushes changed? Whats the odometer rading?

Front tie rods were changed year back. 48k on the odo. No idea about bushes. But can I undertake the 500 km drive?

Yes you may, the parts may be faulty, but they wont just break completely midway.

Went to Aristo motors in Gurgaon, sometime back and thought to share my experience for benefit of all..

1. The front right wheel was creaking and they diagnosed it as a bad suspension requiring overhaul. When i asked exactly which part is making sound, then they said upper bushes, the works manager, put his screw driver in the lower bushes and tried moving it,, then i said, u are saying problem is upper bush, and showing me lower bushes. Best part was i told them lot of suspension work has happened only last month in it, please check history, but it was not done... Then i was told the bearing is also gone, and there was some imaginary noise in it, which they were only able to hear, when the car was lifted and tyre rotated... In the end, took it to local mechanic, who after 15 mins showed me that upper ball joint was damaged and making noise.

2. I asked to check belt noise, which they claim they did,,but nothing changed.

3. Asked to check rear door noise, no clear answer on the problem and resolution. Seems got too scared to say anything when they could not even diagnose the big noise in the front wheel.

4. Asked to check A/c, they said they did and all well. however, now that temperature is little hot, i found the A/c ineffective, and had to get the gas topped at local A/c guy.

5. Did all easy stuff like , engine oil filter change, oil change, and air filter change. brake light bulb change and coolant change.

Problem is lack of good and experienced mechanics, and a thorough attitude. Overall not a good experince. All the stuff they did in the car in 3 days, i could have got it done in under an hr at a local garage.
