There is an indicator on the panel which is known as the
Water in fuel sedimenter Indicator
A quote from the dicor manual(2.2VTT)

This light indicates excess water accumulation in sedimenter which will come ‘ON’ when ignition is turned ‘ON’ and will go ‘OFF’ in 5 sec. When this lamp comes
‘ON’, water needs to be drained from sedimenter
immediatelyWhen the indication comes ‘ON’ the vehicle will run on
‘Limp home mode’ where there is a drastic reduction in the performance of the vehicle.
Till date I was assuming that this was the heating coil indicator meant for pre-heating in diesel engines.
Can some expert here enlighten me on my goof up?

Thanks much manik. I have scheduled a visit to TASS on Thursday. Will try the wd40 trick before. If the latch has to be replaced, it will have to be painted black too and they will take at least a day for this :Frustrati

You need a course on "Teach Yourself Safari DiCOR manual in 24 Hours" :uncontrol
glow plug indicator is separate- its looks like a "heli-coil" comes and goes in a jiffy on ignition key on.

Very funny.I was happily driving the safari until I opened the DiCOR Manual today.Now I have lotsa questions on my automotive fundas.

You are right.I just noticed the instrument cluster.Sorry for being silly.
Enlightened now.
but one more thing. Is the sedimenter indicator supposed to come on while turning on the ignition or not come on at all.
For me it comes up like all other indicators and then goes off as soon as I crank the engine.
And I guess my heating element LED is not working anymore.Just checked and that heli-coil does not even light up.Thats y got suspicious and mistook the sedimentor with the heating element.

The sedimenter light will come on for some time and will go off immediately. The ABS light, if exists, will be the last light to turn off. Not sure of the SRS light, though! :)
And yes, the manual does teach you a lot of things! Seriously! I am guilty of just brushing across all the pages. Need to spend time to read it properly!!!

The encircled coil indicator is not lighting up at all for me when I turn the ignition.
Need to report this to the TASS.

For that matter all instrument indicators in cars/bikes dash panel should switch on briefly when ignition key is turned on and will go off after some time
a la Power-On-Self-Test (POST) mechanism on a computer. There may be some exception like battery charging indicator etc which go off only after engine starts runnning (alternator charging the battery) and left/right turn, high beam indicators etc which come on only when activated.
The mechanism which will affect engine (e.g. sedimenter, oil level) and dynamics (e.g. abs, srs etc) of a car will have a power-on self check. If they do not light up on ignition means indicator is faulty. If they come on a running car- they indicate a fault in the underlying mechainsm. e.g. engine oil light on a running motor indicates low oil level etc. Well this is how automobiles' instrument panel that I have seen so far behave... I haven't seen too many of these though hence, don't take it as a gospel :). The logic is simply to alert the driver that either some indicator is faulty or the underlying mechanism itself needs attention.

If your safari starts fine it is not a big deal. Looks like the indicator has faulted, but don't venture into sub-zero climate w/o glowplugs- push starting a 5000 lbs beast is not the best exercise for six packs. Have it attended to and pls update this thread what was wrong.

I am really impressed with Tata Service. They sent someone yesterday to my home for a checkup on their own. The service guy cleaned the Air filter, topped up the radiator water and checked the battery fluid and oil level. They even gave me a small gift (small clock).
He told me that Tata offers on the site check up free of cost to all cars and not just to their flagship model - Safari.

Any idea from where I can get the skid plates to cover the under belly of my safari.
I enquired at concorde motors,bangalore and they said they did not have it in stock.
Cannot go to prerana motors cause I already had a big brawl with them.
Any help or pointers to any dealer or local workshop which can provide me with the skid plates would be appreciated.

3.0 Dicor if I read correctly from your signature, doesnt have heating coils

If the coil image is there on the dash, it should be working. After all, it is just a heating coil from the days of the dinosaur!
I think he said it is not lighting up, and not it is not present! :D

There are no glowplugs in the 3 liter. Normally large displacement engines do not require glow plugs
