Thanks Prowler and bj96.

To try and identify here's what i did.

with engine off and AMP disconnected, ran stereo, blower for around 4 hrs. battery voltage dropped from 12.76 to 12.45. This means there component are not discharging the battery fast which is good.

Now cranked the engine on, (AC and stereo kept running), after couple of hours, cheked the voltage again. Of course after turning the engine off. Reading was 12. 7. This would mean alternator is chargin on load. which is again great.

SO the culprit seems to Amp as identified by TASS. i will now do a test on AMP

I will be visting Jama masjid scrap market.
In Ludhiana, I found one intact mirror assembly for 700rs, but it was LHS. I needed RHS

Be aware that heated assembly has 4 wires, and non heated has 3 wires.
The heated mirror (LH / RH) have 5 wires and not 3.
3 wires to control the movement of the mirror (Left / right)and 2 for the heating circuit

Fluctuating RPM at the start

I see this new issue on my 2.2 done about ~9800kms so far.

My Safari sits idle for several days at a stretch and I fire it during weekends only. For last few weeks I have observed that morning (1st) start in the day, the engine rpm fluctuates (rises and falls) for first 5-10s before steadying at ~900rpm. During this time the engine noise is also harsher (falls and rises with RPM). No other issues, sluggishness, etc and second start onwards this issue is not repeated.

I thought, probably gumming of old diesel (I have tankfills which last for several months) due to limited running, however, wanted to check with other owners here.

Anything serious guys? What's the remedy? I am thinking about adding system-d in my next refill.

tia,

Make sure you fill pure diesel and not adultrated with kerosene
Injector getting choked , Sytem-D will not help much
Tata Motors Customer Care :: Fuel Additives

Try Bardhal Diesel Combustion improver or BG244K and try for one tankful , may be drive from Pune to mumbai and back.
Try next tankful without and if problem is back time to reclaim warranty

Nothing to worry. This is the beast's way of shrugging off its sleep as you are waking her up from many days of rest My usage is similar to yours (once in 10-15 days) and I do see the RPM taking 3-4 seconds to stabilize. As long as everything is fine after that, nothing to worry.

Somehow I feel that we Safari owners are way too finicky about the beast... give her a break guys Read TSK's posts and enjoy...

Edit - Do stick to 'regular' diesel (strictly NO PREMIUMS) and do not even think of any additives till at least 30-40 K of running.

Now why do you need to extra wires for heating element?

You just need one extra wire, since ground will be common.

anyways, I bought a mirror from scrap market. Got the internal plate(heated) for 200rs.
Heck, there is so much stuff from accidental vehicles there, you can actually construct a new car, esp if its a common car like swift

For the safari we had to hunt 20 shops before we could find the mirror.

Thanks CD and Amit. Yes I'm using normal diesel only. Ok then, nothing to worry. I will wait and watch on this more.

Btw, out of curiosity, I went under to reach for the sedimenter. I could spot the canister like thingy with a sensor wire coming out, near the inlet of the fuel tank. I groped around, but could not locate any "drain screw" to empty it. How is it supposed to be drained? User manual does not document much.

A normal idle rpm for a safari is at 800 - 900 rpm, with the A/C ON, the rpm rises to 900. And the turbo kicks in exactly at 1700 rpm.

These are my readings noticed on a 3L Safari Dicor.

The erratic idle during long standing starts are a common thing, nothing to worry about. My Safari also stands for more than 10-15 days without being started, and i too notice the same. And thats normal.

I've noticed this problem in all of my cars.

TSK, the scrap market you are referring to, is it the Mayapuri Mkt ? Me too looking for the RHS full assembly.

Nope, its not the mayapuri market. Its the one near Jama Masjid. Just get down at chawri bazaar station, and walk to Jama masjid area.
Also, ask for "original" assembly. Many assemblies have local mirror plate(they take out original curved plate and fit duplicate flat internal plate).
So tell them you want original.
You will have to search quite a bit. Cost approx 5-600rs for entire assembly

On my 3L, I was advised initially that the ideal idling rpm shud be 650-670 and mine always stays at that when idle..

however when idle, if i move the steering the rpm does go upto 700....donno if it may sound unusual but its like that from day one...

Godfather...there is noting that you can do on your own to change the idling rpm....

@rajismine: It's normal, my 3.0's rpm also goes up on moving the steering at standstill.
