There are two marks in the coolant tank, hot and cold, so in case you need to top up, you need to do it according to engine temp, just not random, also top up should always be done with 50:50 water and coolant mix and just not water that will dilute the mix and reduce protection.

Nopes... I mean at least not in my car. The markings are FULL and LOW. And the level is to be checked/topped up ONLY when engine is cool.

With the engine cold, the coolant level is to be kept at LOW, not topped up.

In that case, yes, just top it up when engine is totally cold.

Ah ah, there's scope for confusion here!
The FULL mark should be about halfway up the bottle. In such a case you might need to fill upto the Full mark with cold engine. If the full mark is more than halfway up, coolant will overflow with the engine at operating temperature.
LOL, what does the owner's manual say?

^^^I am echoing exactly what the manual says! And that is - maintain coolant between FULL and LOW... and check this when the engine is cold.

And I think the mark is above the halfway mark... but not sure. Will check this soon.

When the coolant expansion tank is filled to the cold mark with the engine cold, it will go up the cold mark when the engine comes to running temperature, however, it won't overflow.

Sorry, what I said in the last post is a bit incomplete. It should be:

Maintain coolant between FULL and LOW. Check only when engine is cold and top-up to the FULL mark.

Check the container. If it says 'pre-mix' you dont need to add water. If it is concentrate then you need to dilute it in the ratio recommended by your car's mfrs OR as a second choice the coolant mfr. Normal dilution ratio is 1:2 i.e. 1 part coolant to 2 of water OR 1:1.

If your mechanic added concentrate without diluting it then it was a bad idea. Just add some water to the expansion bottle but never exceed the Max mark (cold engine) . Also, use clean drinking water or better still distilled water for dilution.

Highest boiling and lowest freezing point is achieved by using a ratio of 70:30 (coolant: water). If its not premixed one.

Not really. 80-20 would give higher boiling point and lower freezing point!
