How to increase mileage of my Alto ?

Hi,

I have got Alto last year and I am getting around 17+ kmpl out of it. I need to increase its mileage. I came to know that by putting K&N filter, putting in Alloys will increase the mileage.

Please tell me more about it ..and also please tell me what else can be done to increase the mileage ?

Thanks.

Keep your car Spark-plug & Air-Filers clean, spark plug & air filter changed after 6-7k.

Use good quality pure petrol, tires always having the right air pressure and best in class engine oil (castrol).

Above things, surely improve mileage.

17+ kmpl and you still want more?

K&N and alloys will not give you an increase in these figures, even if it does, it will be very marginal that you will not notice.

Do regular service and keep her good.

More than 17??
Put an egg between your foot and the accelerator pedal! (Although, you might be doing that already to get 17 kmpl)
Or, LPG!

lol. 17kmpl and you want more. I get 13kmpl in city with great difficulty.

If you drive with a light foot the car doesn't move. To get it to move you need to drive giving a big dose to the right pedal. In which case say bye bye to fuel and watch it being burnt with only noise from the 3cyl engine.

hi tapan,
17km/ltr is good Fe but you have not mentioned whether it is city drive or long drive.
i have alto since last two years. i get Fe of 20 for long drive and 17/18 in city drive. this is for 50 % ac on.
some tips.
1] if you are driving at 60 km or above speed, use 5th gear.
2] change engine oil at right time.
3] servicing should be done at every 5000 km run.
4] air pressure in tyre should be appropriate.
5] as your location is chandigad, i hope you are not always in traffic jam or slow traffic. in city driving, do not idle engine more than 2 min. if you have to, then switch off the engine.
6] avoid sudden acceleration.
7] avoid speeding more than 80 km/hr.
these are handy tips. nothing special. but practicing by this way, check your Fe. you will have smile on your face.

I get 8-11kmpl in my getz here,17+ i have never got an average above 14+ in any of my car in my life, your lukcy pal...

Would suggest you remove the 1000cc alto engine and swap a pulsar 150-DTSi engine it will give you around 35+ per litre

The Alto's available, for the last couple of years, are all 796cc engines, except for few limited editions & VXi, which has since been stopped. :(

sir,
now a days, alto comes with 800 cc engine only.
no vehicle in bombay will get rated average for obvious reason.
in case of alto, it is most fuel efficient car other than crdi cars.
on long drive , its common fe of 20 for alto.
sometime, i get more than 20.

17Kmpl in city or cruising at a certain speed on a highway?
Did you get more than 17Kmpl earlier and now it has gone down to 17?
(Unlikely i know but what's the harm in asking)
Also, which fuel do you use- Speed, IOC xtra premium, Premium 91, etc?

Also do you use it mainly for city or use it for longer inter-city trips often?

K&N and alloys will help to a certain extent but not sure how significantly on an Alto and if it is worth spedning that much on an Alto that seems to be quite ok by the FE claimed.
Also any overzealous inputs to the accelerator pedal due to a freer running engine courtesy the K&N and retuning or increased confidence due to better roadgrip/braking of better tyres with wider alloys may negate any gains or even drop it lower.

Regular maintenance from good workshop will retain the mileage, condition and reliability of your vehicle.
If engine is fine, you may consider using Maruti auth. LPG kit.
Though Kmpl may not be higher and vehicle may need servicing more frequently, the cost per Km should go down solely in terms of the of fuel used.

When launched, Alto came in LX and VX.
LX was 800c and my friend has the yellow VXi with the 1000cc engine with cast iron block that was used in the Wagon R too iirc.
For sometime now, only the 800cc model is sold.

Switch off the engine for better FE and dont fill petorl.

The best FE in my alto is 22.5 and the worst is 18 on highway.

Tapan your car is already giving you good mileage, so why bother ? Ensure that you get the car serviced at regular intervals and that should keep the FE right there.

So how long have you been pushing your car my friend ? How does this work , you switch it off from your garage itself or on an incline? Also I think you cant make such claims on mileage figures about your car when its being pushed. Aint it ?

If you are getting 17kmpl in city then you are light footed driver. Enjoy the car and not bother about increasing FE. bachhe ki jaan loge kya? Aur kitna FE chahiye?

You are getting excellent average. Enjoy.
Pls read my LTO, you will get an idea of my FE figures and what all went into the car and how it is serviced.
