Thank you for the prompt reply.

Upon going through the pdf provided by, I observed that this is mainly for a Corvair car model. The Corvair came with a Saginaw manual transmission (please do not quote me on this).

These transmissions have specific requirements in regards to gear oil grade. However there are conflicting reports on many forums and YouTube that GL5 MT1 gear oil is safe as it has corrosion inhibitors for copper and brass.

Thus making it safe to use in a gearbox that originally came with GL4 recommendation. The Eneos Fine 75W90 Full Synthetic Gear oil meets MT1 requirements.

Also bhpian @beemer_bug recently changed his gear oil and chose to go with Eneos Fine 75W90 Full Synthetic gear oil for his Maruti Zen (jelly bean shape).

Hence, the cause for my confusion and doubts. Also as mentioned this oil has been running in the gearbox for the past 4 years.

MT1's are heavy duty manual transmission oils typically called for in diesel powered heavy duty on-road (or off-road) haulage trucks .

Of course it's fully compatible with light duty manual transmissions in passenger cars that requires GL4 as evidenced in your 4 year usage of an MT1 in your Maruti.

Having said that, any modern day (non-MT1) GL5 gear oils would work well in a manual transmission calling for GL4 application - with marginally higher operating viscosity for stronger components protection as modern day GL5 additives has superior corossion inhibitors (than that of a 1960's GL5) AND copper/brass components if any, found in modern day manual transmissions are better protected against sulphur-induced corossion that was so 1960's .

However the only minor 'risk' is less than ideal smooth synchromesh engagement during a gear change attributed to 'slipperiness' property of a non-MT1 GL5.

Hi mate, I'm looking to source 75w90 gear oil for my Alto [2011]. The closest I could find in offline stores were Servo 75w85 and Shell Spirax 80W90. I've heard people saying that 80W90 might make the gear shifts a bit harder. Did you experience any such issue?

There is no change in gear shifts.
For the first few hundred kms the movement of the car was bit tight and later it's smooth only.
I recommend Shell instead of Servo.
I think you need 2.25 to 2.50 liters of the transmission oil.

Go to MASS and get gear oil changed from them. They stock 75W90 semi-synth (Shell/Mobil) and it isn't very expensive compared to say buying Liqui Moly from outside and getting it filled. The gear shifts are much smoother with 75W90. Spirax is a mineral oil.

You can get Hella 75w90 from Boodmo though. I am using it in my Swift Diesel since 2 years now. No issues and the gears are smoother now.

Finally bought the Hella 75W90 fully synthetic oil (from Boodmo) for my Alto and changed the oil myself as it was a simple DIY drill. There's marginal improvement in gearshifts, which were already smooth in the first place. BTW the drained out gear oil was very dark and had some debris too. I think the Hella would suffice for another 40k kilometres.

Re: Looking for 75W90 gear oil

After a lot of searching for 75w90 oil for my SX4 Diesel, I left it to Maruti.

talked to the Hella guy (aftermarket division), and they have distributors only in Bangalore (Yeshwantpur). I connected with them, and they said they could deliver via Dunzo in Bangalore but not outside, as they do not have any e-commerce channel.
I needed this in Varanasi.
Boodmo had this in stock, but the delivery ETA was more than two weeks, and they had two prices for the same 2.5-liter bottle.
There is also oil from ZF, but its packaging is different from the international market.Outside India, they categorize it as Fluid 8 or Fluid 9 and similar, but here on Amazon, it's labeled as 75w90.

https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0D...H6DT6C9YJ&th=1

There is no product info on the ZF India site.

https://www.zf.com/india/en/company/company.html

This is what they store and use to fill all Maruti vehicles.
It does not specify whether it’s semi or fully synthetic.
Attaching the PDF and link for the same.

There is one more brand available in the market. Rowe. Though it is an overkill for Maruti still if you really want to use 75w90, it is available.

EuroLiquids in Delhi used to be the official distributor earlier but ever since SafetyImpexin guys have taken the dealership for Rowe, their website is down.

This is the product: https://safetyimpexin.com/collection...r-sae-75w-90-s

Though at SafetyImpexin the price is ridiculous. You can source this from someone in Delhi.

Thanks for this, this may help others who are still looking for synthetic 75W90 .
But this supports both API GL4 and GL5 so not sure if its suitable for GL4 uses.

There are oil available from Hella, Abro, ZF and I think Bosch too.
But getting them from genuine distributors and at desired location is challenge.

I guess we can trust Boodmo for Hella oil but I chose not to.

I am okay with Maruti's Spirax oil for now. I was worried that they have only 80W90.

Now the oil is changed it should be fine for at least 2 years

With the price charged for oil + GST, its almost at same price as other synthetic oils from Hella and ZF
