So my question is should I get this checked because previously a slight engagement of the lever used to keep my car immobile and the slope in my parking lot is very very negligible. In fact you wouldn't notice any slope at all. I however don't see much difference in the way the foot brake responds. So not sure if this is something I need to worry about[/quote]

The wear is so small that you will not feel any difference in your footbrake as most of the braking action is taken up by the front disks.
Rear brake shoes are self adjusting by ratchet but sometimes they have to be adjusted manually. If you are now pulling your handbrake cable more than you were doing earlier you might have to open up the drums and have the shoes adjusted manually. It's not a big deal - just have the rear brake drums opened and shoes adjusted and you will get back your original handbrake feel.

Happened to me with the Swift, however did not have any issue thereafter as to the efficacy of the handbrake. Initially there is a resistance, however since you do not notice it as your mind is preoccupied, reason why you have driven with the handbrake, the pressure eases. Now, as a matter of practice my hand moves to the handbrake on entering the car. If you have doubts, which normally eats your brains, do have it checked and relax.
