Hi Guys,
Today i went to Him motors for the screeching noise issue and they say it's from the "self". They need to get the approval from "Lucas" to replace a part of "self" and my car needs to be at Him motors for 2 days. I told them to replace it but they said only some part of it would need replacement and this a standard procedure with Lucas. Also they told it's nothing serious and is covered under extended warranty.
I didn't have the time today and hence told them that i would come some other day.

Today I discovered an issue with my Palio MJD's Gear shift.When changing from 1 to 2 and all the way upto 5th gear,there is a Clicking sound coming from the base of the gear rod.There is no other issue like Grinding from the gears during the shift.The shift is smooth as earlier but with a click as it slots into position.
Just before this ,the car ran a marathon 1200 km within the city through heavy traffic for a full 3 day programme.It was driven by our company driver who is experienced and drives our CEO's XTrail and Corolla.He was all praise for the car.I am sure he did not abuse the car.
And today I find this issue.
Am a bit worried as the Basic Warranty expires this month April 2010.Extended Warranty is valid till August 2011.
The car has no bottom scraping incidents or bad pothole runs till date.
What could be the problem and will it come under Warranty-extended if possible?
What should I ask the TASS to look into? I fear that given their incompetence and ignorance towards Fiat cars ,they may simply either make a mole from an anthill or Viceversa!!!
Gurus ,please help me understand the problem.please:
Am planning to take my car to TASS in a couple of days.

Most likely the gear bracket... many people have changed it due to shifting problems. But if the sound isn't noticeable, just ignore. I get a lot of whump sounds from the transmission too, though not from the gearbox.

The sound is quite noticeable especially with AC and no Music playing.Actually today I asked the man who drove it the previous days about the clicking sound.He said it came up just as he began parking it in reverse before he left on the last day.The next morning I had taken the car.And yes,he was aware of the Reverse lock system in the car.
Can the Gear bracket be replaced in Warranty? If not,how much would it cost with labour approx?

With labour, I think about Rs 600/- it's a plastic part. Ask Bubby, he got it changed.

Scheduled a visit to ASC tomorrow,shall get it done .The Service Engineer has agreed to check and replace under Warranty if possible .If not I will have to pay Rs.680 + 75(service charge).

But first make sure it is the bracket that's the problem.

And please don't call me Sir, most likely you are older than me. I'm only 29.

:) OK .Well,the problem seems much more than the Gear bracket.Autofin motors ,the ASC now says that gear bracket is OK but a small locking pin which sits between the Gears as they rotate and counter rotate when changed, has been out of alignment.This is the cause of Click sound .Secondly it cannot be rectified and the whole unit has to be changed.Now their issue is whether to change the whole Gear Box under Warranty or simply leave it alone.The ASC engineer says its OK as it does not affect gear changes and also on the long run shows no potential damage to Gear box.They have asked for time to decide on the issue.Should come out with something by this Saturday.

An update: Autofin motors replaced the Gear Bracket free of charge.
Now the gears slot in smoothly and there is no sound at all.:)

Now I have a new issue coming up soon after the last one.
Seems my car is turning against me for driving it through 90km a day parking it in the Hot Summer of Rural AP and not even pampering it with a cool shower scrub except a vacuum clean on the inside.:Frustrati
The Floor carpet on the left front passenger side and the Left Rear passenger side is soaked with water!.
The car was never hosed down since 2 months.Only a wet wipe followed by a dry wipe with newspaper on glass surface.
Initially I thought it to be a fallen water bottle or a leaking drain tube from AC.
But not so.More than a bucket full was sponged out from the two sides.Have also checked the underside of dashboard for any leaks with full AC.No sign of leakage.

Have also checked for any loose beading on the door sills.No sign of water leakage .Also below the dashboard as seen in the pics.




Can the gurus please suggest any causes and correctives for this.
Should the carpet be changed? New carpet costs Rs.4300/ at TASS.Can I get the carpet in any accessory shop?

It's the AC condensate drain pipe under the dashboard in the left side in the passenger seat foot well. This pipe either comes out of it's hole (from where it drains out below) or it gets clogged and water spurts into the passenger cabin. It happenned to me last summer. Just find it (it's deep inside on the left side under the dashboard), clean it and put it back well into the hole on the floor.

Your carpet is not ruined. Just dry it in the hot sun with the doors open and give the car a good vacuuming. I had severe flooding last summer and my carpet's not spoilt at all. The carpet is made of synthetic (nylon) fibre most likely, so don't think it will be spoilt.

One more thing,about the Second fan apart from the Radiator Fan,can the engine be switched off even when its running?i.e after a 60 sec idle .Its been coming on in these hot summer days more frequently sometimes booming out for 10-15 mins before it cuts off.I have been idling with AC off till the fan goes off wasting some precious diesel!.

I think you can shut off after the regular turbo-idling for a minute. However, what I try to do is to switch off the AC 5-10 minutes before reaching my destination. Sometimes the fan shuts down by the time I have reached.

Found the Water leak in carpet - the AC drain pipe.It was eaten out by a rodent from below the car.!Total cost of replacement - Rs.10 for a PVC pipe by a roadside Tractor mechanic.


Now on even I too shall switch off the AC just before I reach my place.

I agree with Ice.
The only thing I don't like about my SDX is the quality of interior plastics.

My 1.5 year old son was strong enough to break this stop lamp housing with one hand!!!
