Team-BHP - All about diesel engine oils

If you are very particular you can do a flush, otherwise drain the old oil completely and replace the filter before you fill the new oil. There is no written rule that one should flush the engine before regular interval oil change. Critical factor is how well the old oil is drained out.

dooont do the flush! unless your engine has built up a LOT of dirt inside, let it be.

if you want, after draining the old oil, run the engine with a bit of the new oil, then drain that off, and then fill the new oil again - this time the required quantity.

my engine sounded horrible after the flush. dont do it unless you absolutely need to. have heard it damages the seals etc

I was using Delvec MX, Can someone tell me if I need to do a tank flush? I dont have much idea about it, I'm just going to tell GreenTrack guys to do it for me, but let me know if I have to instruct them something specific or take some special care while moving from one oil brand to another..

Delo and flush?? Dude, don't even consider flushing esp. since you are going to use Delo! Stay away from flushing even otherwise... LOL!!

what i meant was, instead of using flush, use a little quantity of the new oil, and follow the same procedure !
just in case he was switching oil brands. This is advice i got elsewhere in this forum, not sure where

Hello when i said flush is not compulsory, it doesnt mean it will do harm! If done properly it will only do good and add some more life to the new oil. As far as harming seals and all are concerned, this happens mostly in very old engines where a sudden change of oil grade or flush happens.

If somebody does a flush job at 20k kms interval nothing harmful will happen!

ph03n!x: Go with Delvac MX its a good oil and should work well, people have tried in Crdi engines like verna and had good results.

Cannot agree more. Even though grades below API-SJ are now history mostly they are marketing obsolete stuff. I remember the recent ad by BP stating that they now have API-SG!

Also, if you check the so called Maruti Genuine Oil of IOC is only API-SC, while I think Maruti specifies SF/SG! Their Servo is mostly API-SF with the Hyundai & one high end label as SJ.

New engine as in how many kms? 20k kms is not new in my books. also post the details please.

It is not advisable to use flush frequently,it removes the carbon and makes your car harsh and increases engine noise and use only reputed flush which are recomanded by manufacturer.

Ok how many kms is ok then, 20 k kms? i have been using flush every 10k kms and ask BHPians who have heard my car, how the lawn mover engine sounds ;)

3M, OWS are two of the good brands i have come across.

Ok gurus I have a question here my safari is back from 2nd service and it is OEM Castrol GTX 15W40 ,
I did an intermediate Oil change at 6500 KM in march as i felt 15K for oil change is too long and at that time Bardhal oil additive was sold to me ( yes that is emotional atyachar so don't ask me why i fell for it) but now after oil change ( without bardhal ) I feel that it was better then plain Castro GTX 15W40. Is there any substance to my observation or it is purley psychological.

I did a flush at 30 k kms and the engine became more peppier (Higher torque /power at wide RPM bands of 1500 to 2500). There was no increase in the noise levels observed. I used an MGA(Some German make I forget the name) flush recommended by the service manager and it worked well. I was charged 800 Rs for material+labour.

Yes it might help your engine to be a lil more smooth and that maybe the reason why Tata pushes it. Dealer happy and Owner also happy :)
