Improvements are happening at much faster pace now a days.

CJ4 is not available in India yet since its use is coupled with ultra low sulphur diesel which in turn is not used in India.

I don't think you need to change it that quick in any car. For Esteem its 20,000 km or 2 years. Should be something similar or whereabouts for your Ford.

even delvac MX CI+ is not available in india :(

Delvac MX API - CI-4 rating is more than sufficient for any diesel car in India. Not sure which car would need rating more than this?

American Delvac MX is CI4+ and Indian is just CI4. It wouldn't hurt if we also got the plus spec oil, or is it harmful?

Nope its not harmful at all. I use Chevron Delo400 which is CI4+

and I use Petronas Urania which is CI4+ :)

What is the shelf life of these engine oils, be it Diesel or Petrol?
And are there any expiry dates printed on the cans? I've never given this a thought earlier but just struck my mind when I read here that some guys have been buying 10L buckets.

Shelf life of an unopened can is generally put at around 4 years. However, no oil company I know of puts an expiry date on its product. So people have come to believe that oils last forever... which obviously isn't true. Personally, I avoid buying anything thats over a year old... just don't feel comfy with it. Better to buy latest possible stock. But for those having to use 10L buckets... well, you gotta seal and store that bucket as well as possilble. And all the more important to buy the latest stock, since you gonna have to store if for long.

Can you pleaes share your experiance with Delo 400 and what car/engine you are using it with!! Changes in terms of performance / noise / FE!!!

I'm going to get a 10l Delo 400 next (another week or so as I'm going to give my car for service). I have been using Delvec MX for past couple of times and now want to move to Delo 400, do I need to go for the engine oil flush before the change? I've got Palio D and hop Delo 400 would be a good choice.

Buy a Petronas Urania CI4+. Its a lovely oil - comes in 7.5l bucket for 1400 - ideal for 2 oil changes. 10L is overkill IMO (and you gotto wait 25k km to finish it)

I've been using Delo-400 in my 2.2 Safari for past 30K kms and I can vouch for it !.Overall NVH levels have come down.I had used Delvac MX in the past but somehow always felt the engine more coarser even with fresh oil.I do not know the reasons though.

I have not used Petronos,but if you want you can just compare the product data sheet for TBN,kinematic viscosity etc. and make a decision yourself.
