Plus, pulling is more mechanically efficient than pushing. So, on that score, FWD is better than RWD.

if theres a big block with lots of horses then RWD is my preference but if its below 1ltr then FWD please.

By your Logic, all trucks in the world should be FWD, But how many are???

None, All over the world all heavy vehicles are RWD.

If FWD is more mechanically efficient than RWD, and a whole lot cheaper too, then all the vehicle makers would have switched to FWD.

RWD is better than FWD, as it has the mechanical advantage.

Thats why M800 may fail at a steep climb but Omni will make it.

The only thing going in favour of FWd is cheap. All over the world Budget cars are FWD. And powerfull/expensive cars are RWD

What??? Omni is RWD????

I always thought it was FWD.....

@Islero :OMNI is RWD.

Forgot to add, Omni is RWD and if you see the history of the vehicle, it was clearcly designed to haul goods, not people.

Prefer RWD..

The Beemers are all RWD only.. I guess sumitkalindi is right! FWD is for Cheaper vehicles with less moving parts unlike a RWD.

Also i'm with 2fast4u, incase of small vehicles with less than 100 odd bhp, FWD is ok, but RWD anyday if you wanna feel the power [think 300 NHP+]

Ofcourse AWD is the ideal [think toyota celica GT4 or Nissan Primeria etc] Most of the WRC cars are AWD.

Can anyone highlight why Mercedes and BMW never have FWD cars in their range..??

cheers

Mercedes has a FWD car, it's the Merc A Class.

Btw guys check these out Turbo Alto with AWD :D !!

This would be one hot little car!!

Why Omni is having poor handling inspite of being a RWD ? Is it because of it's match-box shape ?

yes bread box shape and skinny tyres

Another problem with RWD is that not everyone can handle the driving charasteristics especially with regards to Oversteer whereas FWD's are safer since their handling characteristic is by default Understeer so is easier to control for a larger section of the drivers. And of course FWD setups are also cheaper.

RWD is a purer setup for enthusiast & high-end platforms since one the steering has only the job of steering the car & does not have to put the power down too so it remains uncorrupted. Secondly in high-powered setups RWD is favoured since it can tolerate much higher outputs compared to FWD. HP limits for FWD are usually regarded at about 250hp, anything above that & the car becomes quite a handful since the front wheels have to put the power down & steer at the same time.

Multiple factors - Power outputs, traditional image, market demands. Plus they mainly target the Premium segments where having a RWD is highly desirable for varioous reasons.
