Electricals not working

I travel to my office in my Esteem everyday. Car has remote central locking which apparently didn't seem to work. So used car keys to enter it. When I pressed in the keys, car electricals were not working at all. And had to use my bike in the end.
What could have gone wrong here ? Never experienced anything like this before.

There must be some power source hidden in the general engine area.

See if its connected.

It usually made of plastic and looks like a big brick.
Roughly half the size of a hollow brick.

No the power source in the general engine area is a little bigger than a brick.

I think it is called a "Battery". lol.

Looks like your remote locking system has turned off all the electrical. You might need to call up remote locking people and and get the remote and locking system fixed.

Battery conked, terminal loose, fuses blown. So start with checking the battery.

Gaurav; It seems to be a problem of remote locking. Modern autocop (or other security systems) cutoff all the electricals if one doesn't disarm the system using remote. Since you used the key to open the gate this is most likely. Did the alram went off when you tried to open the door using key?
You can also try putting on some spare battery and see if it works. It will rule out battery issue. Then proceed towards fuse boxes both inside the dash and in the engine area. There is a main fuse which if blown can down all the electricals.

I tried to open thru remote locking. It was not working at all, only then I used keys to open doors.

Better check battery terminals and battery discharge !! It looks like something is loose with battery terminals or battery is gone bonkers.

Did you leave any lights on in the car?

Its quite possible that your battery got into a Deep Discharge.
A couple of deep discharge cycle generally ruin the battery.

If the external circuit is closed i.e. you switch off that light and give the battery a couple of hours rest. It will get back some power.

But the electrolyte level inside the battery would have reduced.
It simply evaporates/ boils away.

You need to get your car over to battery charging place.
They will use a voltmeter to check the battery condition.
Reading are taken with engine off, engine on, engine under load (accelerate in neutral), AC on.

The voltage readings give an indication of the both the battery health and your alternator condition.

The alternator is what keeps the battery charged.
Its an electrical components and can fail without much warning.

Also sometimes the battery terminals get a sort of rust oxide formed on them.
This is avoided by applying grease/ petroleum jelly.
The oxide if formed can break the circuit.
The terminals need to be disconnected and then cleaned before connecting them firmly.

Remove the negative terminal before the positive.
Replace positive before negative.

When working with batteries, please be careful.
The electrolyte is an acid. It is corrosive and will burn on contact.

Do not bring open flames/ lit cigarettes close to the open bonnet.
