Only care taken till date is regular oil change after every 10k kms
That would be something for those who say that only oil change once every 5000kms would keep the engine trouble free for 1L+ kms.

I hope you really meant once every 10000kms.

:
Wow your Indica engine lasted 200k kms inspite of 10K kms oil change and no engine overhaul
I think the biggest argument for 5k kms oil change was the engine life and you seem to have dispelled the myth and avg 20 kmpl ! now I find that too good to be true.
If possible could you please post a detail review about your ownership experience it will really help the new diesel buyers like me.

Cheers,
Nitin

I have a 72000 kms done Indica DLS and I do change oil, oil filter, air filter every 5000Kms. If 007 is surely saying that oil change at 10000Kms work fine then I think we can increase oil change interval to atleast 7500 Kms. Only problem that I encounter in my Indica is thermostat switch change every year before onset of summers. I have never got any kind of flushing done and decarbonise also done only once. Let me know if it is mandatory to go for engine flush?

Thanks !

I feel the drain interval of todays diesel engine oil is much higher than the traditional 5000kms. was seeing an ad for servo engine oil for trucks with a drain interval of 45000km. even tata *ss now recommends 10000kms or 6 months which ever is earlier.

Balaji Garage @Aundh insists that I should change oil at 10K interval and not at 5K, however, old habits die hard. I insist on changing the same at 5K.

He also mentions that I can service my Indica at 10K interval. I did it only once and I felt rattles increase with passage of time and munching Kms. I reverted back to 5K interval since then.

I used to service my Indica regularly with BU Bhandari earlier. But since I started going to Balaji, my car is much smoother and I guess, he uses better grade oil. On my next visit to him, I will ask him which brand oil he uses.

Do you guys use any special / particular brand or are OK with what *SS use?

Also, interesting to note that inspite of having Diesel loss due to leakage in Diesel tank and 3 days stay at service center for servicing, my Indica needs to tankful today after clocking 480kms from last tankful.

take care and drive safely

For a diesel IDI, I would not recommend an OCI of more than 7500kms.

Well, Tatas suggest 10k interval for my IDI engine in the manual that came with it. And that is what I have done for all these kms. It has run exactly half of what these guys have driven theirs. Still, it runs like it just came out of the showroom. No creaks, rattles, gear stick vibrations or for that matter any sort of belt noises. I guess Tatas 10k change interval is quite fine. Every alternate 5k mark they just do a top-up if needed. Changes are only at 10k intervals.

I change oil only at 10000kms interval. I switched from a 7500km interval as in my manual.

When you have the time you can take a look at the following:

Sorry about that!

Naming differences. In TIUG, we tend to use first names and here mostly it is the ID. gets confusing to keep track of who is who in each!

I change around 7500kms or before 10 months or so.
Last change was around 102500kms last year. Will change at 109000kms next month.
Always use Castrol GTX diesel

I think Tata motors has also discovered just like you guys have discovered that 10k kms oil change interval is sufficient and hence the Vista has 10k kms interval.

Besides, frequent oil changing only helps in increasing engine life. It doesn't impact power or mileage, does it?

So unless someone wants to do 4-5 lac kms in an Indica, I think 10k kms interval will be fine.
