OHC 1.5 40K service questions

Greets all.

I have a 2001 City 1.5 and is due for my 40K service at TVS Chennai. I have constantly had problems with them not doing items in the checklist as provided in the service (user) manual. Some I could not check (like check plug gap, brake pads etc) but some I could (rotate tyres etc). I am worried that they just do an oil change / water service and call it done, and I wouldn't know the difference.

I have had numerous fights with them on this using the checklist as a reference, so conveniently, during my last service, they "mispalced" my service manual. I want to get a full 40K service done, so could anyone with a manual send me the list of items to be checked/changed at 40K? Any way I can get another service manual?

Has anyone else here faced these problems (hope not) or is it a TVS speciality?

Thanks in advance.

Gears,

Its a news to me that we need to cross check with the checklist while giving it to service. We have one registered in our company name, just we will send it for service for every 5000 kms or 6 months whichever is earlier & take it back from them.

I will try to locate the book and send it to you.

In general, I heard that TVS is very expensive, but upto my knowledge our city did not cause any major trouble ( may be our accounts person would know the real story)

Don't worry pal. here's my Vtec's 40K service bill. You can, not just see the particulars they've replaced but, also the prices.

Particulars will be exactly the same between the 1.5 and the Vtec, could be a slight diff here and there.

Wierd thing is that after the spark plug chance, the car's response wasn't much for some time. It took it almost 2-3 days before it got back to it's usualy functioning.

So, don't be too alarmed if you find the car to be a bit sluggish in the higher rpms.

Thanks guys.

Shan2nu, apart from the "replace" list, I am worried about the "check" items. You know, things like Check clutch plate play, Check brake pad wear, check and clean throttle bodies etc. If I have that list, I can at least threaten the service manager that I am going to cross check all the items.

Now, if only I could device a way to check whether they really do all the stuff. Does anyone recommend going with the list to a reputed private shop (Like Kamalesh Patel's Electra) and getting the car serviced there?

Gears.

Our HONDA 1.5 is a company maintained one. In line with this topic, Iam interested in finding out how much they charged for our HONDA 40K service.

They had charged us Rs.12k. When enquired with our accounts dept, it seems we were told that they need to open the engine for 40K service and also for 80K service.

Its almost double the cost of Shanu's 40K service. I will attach a scanned copy of the bill tomorrow.

Redone: Pls enquire them before hand how much the approximate bill would be

Unless the car's clutch or some assembly needed to be replaced, there is now way it can cost that much.

The only thing they need to do to the engine is replace the spark plugs and change the engine oil. No need to open up the engine at all.

There was another City 1.5 that day which had come for it's 60K service, owner got a bill for 11K but, he had the car's brake pads and clutch replaced so, that's acceptable.

Regular services are damn cheap, the 45K service cost us around 1,092 bucks. Best part is that they always tell me that it might cost around 1500 but it never reaches that amount. It's always between 1000-1300.

RedOne, i advice u to go to Kamlesh Patel's Electra. They'll guide u well and if u don't know anyone there personally... PM me. i can help u.
They've got the best expertise in the city.

What can't they do if they can build an EVO6 out of a normal lancer and make it do the best quarter mile time in SpeedRun history.

man red one for those prices drop the car off with me...will do it myself!!!!
thats a rip off!!! why the fuel treatment and octane booster you dont need it.
also if geting engine flush done..why engine protectant???
your car does not have a carb and it has a SINGLE throttle body..
other than 500 for the injector cleaner none of those prices are justified!!!!

Boy they sure do a lot of servicing in Chennai, a bit more than required. BTW, i got my service done by the Mlore dealership.

Radiator holds 4 ltrs of fluid?
Octane booster?????
Fuel treatment??????? What r they gonna test the fuel in your tank and treat it? LOL
Choke/carb cleaner???? Didn't know OHC's had a choke.

What a con job dude, they're charging you 595 for the brake fluid and 500 for replacing it.

500 bucks to replace 4 freaking plugs?????

Forget wheel balancing and wheel allignment, you can pretty well get both done outside for 300-400 bucks.

U know what, i'm gonna call up the Mlore guys and ask them if all these things are supposed to be done.

Don't get your car serviced in a hurry. I'm sure this bill can be brought down by a large margin.
