Can you explain the sound more, you are sure its not diesel engine pitter patter sound? Does it happen when accelerating or holding the accelerator at a particular RPM? Does it happen in all gears?

Its happening when i am accelerating only, not holding the accelerator. I am not sure about the all gears, the slow speed (30-60) sound is less and (80km-120 km) the sounds is more. I have checked the mechanic, he told the sound is called by KNOCKING. I am sure diesel engine pitter patter sound only.

Well one things you can try is, ask the mechs to check if there is any air caught in the fuel line or filter. Bleeding the lines will help to check this, then see if the sound subsides.

Any idea what was the tuning that they did? DDIS engine doesnt have anything much which can be tuned, hence asking.

Can you tell at which gear this is happening. AFAIK the ddis does should not knock at those speeds.

Would recommend that you get the fuel pump checked.

arun: What Psycho meant was to check the fuel pump feeding the diesel in the car, also try using normal IOC diesel and see if there is a difference.

If its only in 4th and 5th gear, i would suggest showing the car at another reliable A.S.S and ask them to rule out any gearbox issues, just in case.

i wonder what did they tune. Did they fiddle with the ECU?

Did they touched the nozzles.?

Just to be sure does the sound goes if you down shift.

In the Swift D, often the tappet noise can be assumed to be knocking. I hear this has been an issue with many customers complaining about the hydraulic tappets.

Arun,

Is the knocking sound a metallic pinging noise? The normal diesel pitter patter will be more of a grating, gravelly noise.

If using premium fuel it is better to stick to either premium only or normal diesel only. Mixing the two can cause the injectors to clog up. Seems like the additives in the premium fuel can loosen the residue left in the tank by normal fuel and clog up your injectors.

Drive on,
Shibu.

Does it happen when accelerating or holding the accelerator at a particular RPM? What does this mean?
I have had similar issues at 1600-1800 RPM, observed mostly in 3rd gear. It happens when we maintain the same rpm. The clatter significantly changes and increase in noise is seen. Else it is not observed.
