Well lets try and see this logically. EPS is where a motor assists the steering so that your effort of turning is minimal. The motor draws current from the battery for its own functioning. The most probable reason you got the Check EPS light may be due to some problem in the wiring loop/motor which may have hindered flow of power towards the motor. This may have been set right after re-start of the car. I'm saying this because the EPS stopped completely until restart & didn't function intermittently like some cases.

The level of variable assist in an EPS is also programmed in the car's CANbus based on speed. So its better to get the computer scanned for error codes which may give more clues on the issue and/or reset it. As usual only the service station can give the best answer after an inspection.

Re: Issues with a new Hyundai Verna

Since the warning light was On, there's a high chance of an error code that is stored in the EPS controller. Hence a scan will let you know if what the issue was. It can be some minor issue like a low voltage, or some sensor not providing legible data and so on and hence the EPS would have shut down. After you restarted the car things would have been reset. Suppose this repeats do observe what changes happen to the car, if any.

Re: Issues with a new Hyundai Verna

The owner of the Verna did continue to use it for sometime and then sold it. He is now enjoying his Fluidic Verna.

Today only I got a chance to scan the ECU at the nearby Hyundai service center as the scanning device was not available. After scanning the guy told torque sensor malfunction was the recorded error. They have removed the error log and turned the steering wheel to both ends 2-3 times while the scanner is connected. They said that everything is fine now and if this issue happens again then we need to replace the torque sensor.
