Odometer / Instrument Cluster Repair?

Hi All,

My Palio's odometer (tripmeter and mileage counter) have stopped working. I tried to get it repaired in Pune, but it stopped working in a week. Can anyone suggest a good repair shop in Pune/Mumbai?

Thanks

HI ,

Please speak to these guys :

Kava Automobile

check their contact number , they are based in mumbai and deal in original FIAT spares , he might give you a new one and that too at a very very affordable cost .. just speak to him . He might be able to suggest you a few mechanics who might help you with the repair if you want to take that way.

Regards
Gautam

Thanks. I did call them, but they are suggesting for replacement and they don't have any in stock. As per the guy, odometer cannot be repaired. I have asked him to find the price for one.

Regards

In Mumbai, Guaranteed Speedometer Repairs, S.V. Rd, Bandra, after the lucky restaurant signal going towards the Mahim Causeway. It's on the left hand side, before the mosque.
The palio does not have a cable from the gear box. I think it's an electronic pick up.

The Palio has a connection to the gear box to get speeds to the ECU which in turn send an electronic response to the Speedometer. In 99.9% of the cases what fails is the electric motor that converts electronic pulse to mechanical on the rolling dials of the speedometer.

Palio_2005,
The Odo hasn't been working on my car either. I went to chor bazaar and got myself another unit for Rs. 300/-. Why? Because the MRP of a new unit now is Rs. 16,000/- (it was Rs. 10,000/- a year ago). The electronic motor in the speedometer is concealed and hard to reach. It is tedious job to access it and involves cutting your housing of the entire cluster.

Are you serious? 16k to 300 bucks!!!

How is it performing now? Am sure the labour cost more than the price of the unit

It is from chor bazaar. It is a used unit that was rigged out of a car that was broken. Hence you read it right - Rs. 300/-.

oh man! it seems like a season of odometer/speedometer failures in a palio.

i have a 1.6 sport and have recently started facing this same problem where the odometer/trip-meter/speedometer behaves erratically. most of the time it doesnt work. but sometimes, it springs into action and behaves perfectly well.
and i know at least one more person, who owns a 1.6 sport, and has started facing this odometer failure problem only recently.

if i decide to replace the odometer cluster, will it involve removing the dashboard? because if it does, then i would rather leave it that way and get a gps 'odometer' instead. opening a dashboard, as i understand it, is like opening a pandora's box. so i want to totally avoid it.

Re: Palio Odometer repair in Mumbai

I had the exact same problem with my Palio Stile. The entire cluster works fine accept the odometer and tripmeter. After learning from TATA sevices in Goa that the price for a replacement is 16K I decided to go ahead and open the cluster hoping that it was just a 'loose connector'.
Well turns out it is something more than that. As some of you have rightly pointed out it has to be the stepper motor that drives the numbered wheels that has gone poof.
I think I will have to go to Mumbai's Chor Bazar or Kurla to find a replacemnt from a scapped vehicle. Trouble is getting to Kurla from Goa is a whole day and a half wasted in travelling.
Anyone has a good contact in kurla for such replacements. Do let me know. Oh yes, I have attached some pics I took with my N8 while I had opened if u guys would like to see.

PM Clevermax, he got his instrument cluster repaired once(same issue) from bangalore for ~2k. Max you might have to do is bear the courier cost to send it down, this can be fixed.

Re: Palio Odometer repair in Mumbai

^ Yes, I got mine repaired (odo & speedo was not working) for 2500 Rs from a guy who runs a small meter repair shop in CMH road, Indiranagar. He is really an expert and he took only less than 2 hours to dismantle, replace a part and assemble everything together and the odometer is still working fine, 3 years after the repair.

Ford Endeavour -- Instrument cluster not working

Hi team,

I own a ford endeavour 4x4, recently i have been having problems with its instrument cluster, it seems that the speedometer, tacho and fuel gauge is dead. Rest of the LED indications are working fine. Ford service engineer replace the cluster with another cars cluster and decleared that my cluster need replacement. --Price 41k and the worse part the part is -- not in stock.

Well I would like to know if these clusters can be repaired in and around GOA or any place were i can find a old working instrument cluster. If any of the team members can provide some contact details it would be of great help.

Waiting for response

Re: Odometer / Instrument Cluster Repair?

Hi, can anyone tell me about where to repair the fused bulbs of the instrument cluster of ford figo, in and around Delhi? The service center changes the whole console, which i think is unnecessary. Thanks in advance.
