Its fairly low durometer rubber in this case, maybe you're envisioning it to be a lot harder?
Rehaan

GTO could not have gained 12mm to 15mm in rear height (with 3 adults in the backseat - check his original post) unless the rubber is pretty stiff.

If rubber thickness (after car is put back on suspension) is x inches, and the spacing between two turns of the coil (one gap) without rubber is y then the car will gain x-y due to this mod.

Now x-y is about 12mm (0.5 inch) and I don't believe y (the original one turn spacing) would have been much less than 0.5 inch - do the addition and you'll see x is roughly 1 inch - rubber is not compressed at all.

Since under same load the spring compresses a lot more (unloaded spring would have been close to 1 inch to insert the rubber) without the rubber, you can be sure this is a pretty stiff insert.

Re: Coil Spring Adjusters : VFM Fix for the Honda Civic's (lousy) soft rear suspensio

If I gather correctly, GTO is now looking for Koni FSDs and thinks this mod wasn't 100% so I better not get in the above discussion on inserts.

@GTO: You mentioned Koni FSDs but what I gathered from most German/English motor forums is that Koni Yellows are better than FSDs. Any specific reason why a FSD and not the Yellow coil overs? Thanks!

Re: Coil Spring Adjusters : VFM Fix for the Honda Civic's (lousy) soft rear suspensio

Does the NHC (2007/08 model) also have a spring based suspension where this soln can be used? My bad if this discussion is already done.

my bro in law has a NHC and it virtually scrapes every speed breaker in Bangalore even with 2-3 ppl in the car. Its a nightmare with 5 people sitting. Whenever he complains to Honda A.S.S., they just console him by saying that Civic also has same issue

Exactly. I thought a stiffer rear would improve handling; well, it's done nothing to the dynamics. However, just the fact that it doesn't bottom out like before, and the bounciness is controlled, makes it more fun on the twisties. I'm sticking with the coil spring adjusters until the Konis happen. This is honestly one of the best mods for the Indian Civic, if my first 500 kms are anything to go by.

Not decided 100%. Got another year or so to go, but definitely NOT going the coil-over way (not suited to India).

Sorry, that's all I got. I didn't go myself for the wheel alignment at KS Motorsports.

Pretty sure this can be installed in an NHC.

Ok, my courier arrived today - two 1" donuts for the rear. Will get it installed possibly over the weekend. Someone asked about weight, its weighs around 700-800gms each. Size - roughly 6" dia and around 1.6" high on the outside (if you measure the inside, it should be around 1"). Rubber looks to be of good quality. Some pictures attached. Will update further once the installation is done

GTO

do you think this can help Manza also? I have buy a car, I say Figo (bought one for my sister last year - doing excellent but she usually drives alone or with 1 passenger - almost no other load), wife says Manza.

Long story short - the reason I haven't given in yet is because I have read in many places (including your review) that Manza's suspension is too soft. If a cheap solution like the rubber donut can help then I'll buy a Manza.

Hi,
That was me. Thanks.

So approx Rs 2 / gm.

Well, Manza's suspension is too soft, and hence it rolls too much, but is there 'bottoming out' issue in the Manza?.

Interesting way to see it. (quality?)

I and my wife never go above 100kmph (rarely above 80 - above that is strictly only when someone is about to miss a flight) even on empty roads. So rolling is not a big issue.

However the reports say that with full load (5 people) the Manza rear end starts bouncing on bad roads.

I hope the rubber donut can reduce/eliminate that problem. Otherwise I'm not buying Manza.

Hi Rehaan,

From rough calculations and GTO's "12 mm higher ride height, fully loaded" number, it appears to me that the rear wheel center stiffness (not the spring stiffness) has increased about 32%. This is a drastic change if not anything else, but according to the driving impression, it appears that this car is not very sensitive to a rear spring change. This happens sometimes, depending on the tire, bushing stiffnesses and suspension kinematics.

Again, what this also means is that the same 32% change may cause some other vehicle to be so completely screwed up as to be almost undriveable.

@ak
Could you please share the calculation workout ?
It will help others also to be more aware of variation in vehicle dynamics after this mod.

Cheers

My manza does bottom out in full load when going through poorly designed speed humps unless you drive very very slowly. I seriously wish that this is a good option for Manza. However, a bit apprehensive after GTO said the below on page 4 of this thread.

Quote:
If you read my Manza review, I had complained about excessive vertical movement (just like the Civics). These adjusters have made the rear sit flatter. However, I'm not too sure how good the quality of springs in the Manza is, and whether they can cope with the additional stress (knowing Tata).

Re: Coil Spring Adjusters : VFM Fix for the Honda Civic's (lousy) soft rear suspensio

Got mine installed today at the rear. Was a 15 min job followed up with alignment. Alignment showed no variation from stock. Did not drive much for a full experience, just back home from the garage with only me in the car. The rear feels a lot more planted, and from first looks, the car has a more tipped forward and purposeful stance. The bounciness of the rear has reduced and I'm urged to take on speedbreakers without worry. Tried over couple of humps and there was no scraping or bottoming. Need to try with a full load and over some notorious speedbreakers in the coming days. Will keep you updated. Attaching some snaps of the installation.

Re: Coil Spring Adjusters : VFM Fix for the Honda Civic's (lousy) soft rear suspensio

With the increased stiffness, wouldn't braking also be affected especially with rough roads?
Maybe its the driver and the tyres (plus the dampers) that are the issues (in a good way)
