Re: Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8GL - Initial Ownership Review

Congratulations on your Corolla Personally speaking, I believe its the most practical car in its segment, but the recent price hikes has made it a bit overpriced.

Your mileage will improve after the first service. Also, be sure to measure it by tankful-to-tankful method.

On your list of addons, add the rear spoiler too. It will make the car look more sportier.

Also, are you able to play DVDs when the car is in motion?

Thanks

I agree with you. The car was more VFM before the price hike.

Yes it is possible to play the DVDs when the car is in motion. I think that's possible with every HU with DVD playback?

Well, I was under that impression, but this post below changed my opinions

Well that's surprising! :o

there's no such issue with the DVD playback in my car.

Toyota should've given the HU with satellite navigation instead of the DVD player. That would've been much more useful IMO.

Some of my DVDs aren't working in the HU. The HU shows the following error on the screen when I insert the DVD.

Does anyone know why is this happening??

Re: Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8GL - Initial Ownership Review

Hello Aparth,

Most likely it is region locked and hence the the region code error. The disc you are using is an original disc. You can see on the disc cover a circle (globe like) with an number mentioned. Most likely the original disc you have is not manufactured in India (designed for playing in a different region). If the DVD player is not set to the same number (region) it will give this error. Try doing some research (Google) on how to set the DVD player to ZERO region. It will be a set of/combination of buttons or remote keys (if there is one provided for the player) to access the system setup or change the values from existing region to ZERO. This is akin to you purchasing a DVD player (such as Samsung or Phillips..going by personal experience) as they are preset to Indian region (they have a globe/circular symbol printed with a number in it, this is on the label on the back side next to the serial number/model number). My last purchase I simply Googled the model number and found the combination keys to reset it to ZERO to allow me to play original DVD discs purchased outside of India.

Coming back to your issue, try asking Toyota on this (I doub't they will assist in giving you the method or agree to setting it to zero due to copyright/piracy issues). Or as an alternative try finding out the make and model number of the OEM audio equipment fitted & do a Google search on same...You may just be lucky enough to get the codes to reset...Do fill in with an update on your mission to get this region error sorted out for good...
Rgds

Re: Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8GL - Initial Ownership Review

1st Service and 1150 kms update

Gave the car for its first service a few days ago and also got the muffler cutter installed. It reached 1100 kilometres in about 40 days.

The gear shifts have become much smoother now but sometimes it does take some effort to slot in the reverse gear. Apart from this there are no issues with the car.

I've been getting an average of 9.8km/pl with mostly city driving. Driving and parking in the city is comfortable thanks to the smooth steering and great low end torque.

Finally managed to take some pics as well.

Very stingy of Toyota to give only two parking sensors at the rear. They look like an aftermarket fitment. Could've been body coloured at least.

Re: Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8GL - Initial Ownership Review

Congrats! You have got one of the most fuss free and reliable cars in India. 9.8kmpl is pretty decent mileage you are getting. Is it with A/C or with intermittently switching on A/C?

Looks really plane jane and boring (in pics, actually looks much better physically), but I would give the Toyota engine and reliablity, more marks over looks any day.

Regarding the DVD playback during driving, this is the first time I heard of such a thing. I never knew RTO had such rules.

I'm getting 9.8 kmpl without A/C.

Hey guys, I'm planning to install a reverse camera and I'd like to know whether I'll have to install a screen separately or will it work the stock Head Unit itself?

I spoke with DSK Toyota in Pune and they told me that the current DVD system does not have a provision for camera. You will have to buy another screen and the total cost is more than 7k. Since it would look very shabby hence I dropped my plan to fit a reverse camera.
