Re: Tata Safari GX : Buying and initial ownership

Third free servicing is due. Have been approached by Pandit Automobiles
proactively for free checkup at home, followed by free servicing.

I had first servicing at National and that was a horrifying experience. Second
servicing at Phoenix was good experience, though after Mujammil has left I am
in two minds whether to go there again or to try Pandit this time.

Not sure where you stay, but if you do decide to try Pandit and are based in PCMC, then this is another option for you: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...xperience.html

Re: Tata Safari GX : Buying and initial ownership

The car completes 1 year and nearing 9000km mark now.

Had 3rd free service done yesterday. Finally dropped the idea of switching the
servicing to Pandit, for simple reason that it was closed on Sunday when I had
time to get it done. Phoenix was open on Sunday. So went there again.

I was confused why my 3rd free servicing came within 1 year of purchase as I
thought Safari follows a yearly service cycle. Service station people, too,
were confused asking whether I have brought it for servicing too early. It
turns out, In more recent Safaris, the free service schedule seems to turn
yearly immediately after the first 1-month servicing and the 5th servicing
covers 60000kms. For my Safari, there is an intermediate 6 months / 5000km
servicing, too. It was written so on the service coupons.

There were no major issues.

Engine oil, oil filter were changed for a total bill of Rs 2775/-.

Air filter change was recommended at 15k, typically on 3rd servicing. However
since the running is just about 9k, they advised to wait till 15k mark and then
have it changed.

As usual, the bonnet door wasn't closed properly after the servicing and this
is something commonly seen across TASS stations and across mechanics. Perhaps
it's a bit tricky to close it properly. It was found improperly closed after
most of the service station visits till now.

Re: Tata Safari GX : Buying and initial ownership

Since the servicing last week the clutch squeaks, when releasing, had got much louder.

I have never been able to get the squeaks fully fixed. They have always been there. Took the car to Phoenix and had greasing and oiling done for the clutch springs. The squeaks have just returned to pre-servicing levels, which I consider normal.

Fellow Safari owners, anyone facing such problem with the clutch and how you managed to get it resolved?

Fellow technical experts, are the squeaks a mere nuisance or they affect long term life of the clutch components. (As per the mechanics it's the clutch spring that is making the noise.)

Re: Tata Safari GX : Buying and initial ownership

Last week, on the way to Satara, just at the start of Katraj ghat, a pig chased by stray dogs rushed across the highway and hit on the front right side of the car.

I could realize it happening a few moments before, though nothing could be done to avoid the collision. Neither breaking, nor speeding would have averted it.

Pigs are really bad at correcting the course once they start running. Fortunately it escaped without getting injured, though the collision must have hurt it despite its thick skin.

Didn't realize at that moment, though later on found that front-right wheel's cap was missing.

Had it fit at Phoenix today for a price of Rs 253/-

Re: Tata Safari GX : Buying and initial ownership

Touched the 10000 km mark today in a little over 1 year!

Was on the Pune Mumbai eway, so could not photograph or even witness the odo turning 5 digits.

No problems or concerns to report.
