So comparing the Storme LX to the Safari LX,
they have taken out arm rests, rear washer , anti glare rear view mirror, the rear tyre on the back door :D. Anything else that's missing in the new one?

Let me quote the gist of the observations of all the reviewers who have reviewed the Storme:
[] New underpinnings leading to a batter ride quality.
[] Improved interiors, fit and finish as per every reviewer who has examined the vehicle
Also please consider this:
[] 3 year 100K KM warranty standard, with an option to go for a 4 year 150k KM warranty.
[] A go anywhere ability on the previous 4x4 model, that has been tested by the intrepid travelers on the forum leading to a lineage that is credible and confidence inspiring.
Let me also quote the observations of the thread OP, should you wish to verify go to the begining of this thread,
1. All 4 disc brakes
2. New Hydroform Chassis
3. Lighter rack and pinion steering
4. Decreased turning radius
5. Better ride quality
6. Negligible body roll
7. Responsive engine
8. Good in cabin insulation
9. Better all round finish
10. Wider track
Does all of this come for free? If I am not mistaken the price on the top end variant with 4x4 has gone up by just a lac or so. That's too much for you? |
Thanks for summarising. Lets look at the Lx model. Sells for around Rs7.7lakhs ex-showroom after discount ( 8.3 listed - 30k cash discount - 30 exchange offer which is negotiable to a cash discount ) . This is Chennai price
Storme Lx - 9.95Lakhs ex showroom Delhi - add 10K which is the typical difference between current Safari prices between Delhi/Chennai
This takes the Storme Lx price to 10.05 lakhs in Chennai
Difference with present Lx model is 2.35lakhs
Now you tell me whether 2.35 lakhs is worth the above additions ?
Please note the Storme Lx does not have driver/front passenger arm rests, rear washer , anti glare rear view mirror that the Safari Lx had. Can we assume about Rs25k for these ? In that case the difference between Safari Lx and Storme Lx is 2.6lakhs --- justified ??
Also lets bring in the competition now. Lets be reasonable and compare the STORME Lx with the SCORPIO SLE ( mid variant ).
Whatever improvements TATA claim with the new platform exist in the CURRENT PLATFORM of the SCORPIO ( PLUS THE SCORPIO IS FAR MORE RELIABLE THAN THE SAFARI - STORME IS YET TO BE PROVEN )
Scorpio Sle - Chennai ex showroom - 9.75lakhs - A good 30k less than Storme Lx
( Mind you I have not factored the Rs5k corporate discount Scorpio carries and POSSIBLY any additional discounts M&M might give in light of the Duster/Storme )
Now please tell me whether the Storme Lx pricing makes any sense compared to internal/external competition ?
DISCLAIMER: I will still be checking out the Safari Storme and if heart wins over head, might go for it :)

Hey GTO,
From the table, Safari (and not storme) 4x4 doesn't have a base variant, but there are other variants for Ex and Gx at around 11 odd lakhs and 12 odd Lakhs respectively on road. I am not sure if Scorpio has something like that.

Feature by feature Storme LX = Safari EX not LX
ABS, EBD, body colored cladding, rear disc's, audio system are not there is Safari LX.
Even Safari EX do not have abs, ebd and rear disc's and improved turning radius
ACI review of the Storme says:
Quote:
The Safari Storme, then, comes across as a quantum leap ahead of the previous Safari. It’s well-equipped, refined, better built and comprehensively updated. And with prices starting from Rs 9.9 lakh for the base 4x2 model and going to Rs 13.7 lakh for the fully loaded 4x4 option, it’s great value for money. Also, as a long-distance cruiser, nothing can quite beat it for the money. The only grouse is that, even after 14 years, Tata hasn’t got around to changing the ageing body completely.

Hope this clears few doubts & perceptions.
Agree rkg - point is to attach a rupee value to the difference in features and checking whether it stacks up. I feel it doesnt by about 30-50k.
as another member pointed out - Storme at best will take Safari back to its 1500 per month numbers ( maybe ) but pose no serious challenge to the Scorpio/XUV
If it had, it would have been good for the consumer ( who constitute a majority of this forum )
@CARDEEP - I went through the complete report of ACI and it definetly points to lot of chinks in the Stormes armour even now. So lets not kid ourselves saying its a totally ALL NEW vehicle at an attractive price.
Anyway, as i mentioned in the disclaimer of my earlier longish post - buying a Storme continues to be a decision of the heart and not head ( as was with the Safari ) and that will definetly hurt sales numbers because there are very few like us who go around buying vehicles with a decision of the heart

Its like rubbing salt into a fresh wound is it not?
Demand a premium of over 2 lacs, and still not give everything the old version had.
I mean, how difficult would it be to pony up 2 hand rests man?
Or a rear view mirror? Or a rear wash and wipe?
Perceptional it may be, but buying a Safari is not all about common sense either ....
As per me, the customers who were planning to go for the Safari EX might switch to Storme EX but for those who had the Safari LX in mind, it's a steep jump.
The Storme EX makes more sense than a Storme LX as it's just 80k more which is a lot less than the present price difference between Safari LX & EX. You get all the stuff that was extra earlier in EX as well as the things they have taken out of Storme LX.

Did Tata offer these as an option?
@narayan, are you the only one who is a naysayer, there are many others who have been negative since 1.15 pm. We are a strange community, we bash a company (Hyundai) for having few extra features, but average ride & bash another one for improving the ride & other shortcomings, but, delete few features (Tata). All I am doing is getting some data for all to understand how is this car different/ better than previous gen, & haven't even hinted to its competitor (s). Moreover, we are comparing the base variants only, why not compare the other variants.
Let that thing be with those who have more experience doing this (mods/ reviewers at TBHP).
Here, is another review of the Storme by Motorbeam:

I agree. They have only really badly hurt those looking for the base version of the Storme at a reasonable markup. The EX and VX are actually not much different.
Which means that the old Safari is here to stay and not just as a brief overlap, and that the company is making room for its co-existence lower down the price spectrum.

[] You are referring to peripherals. You are ignoring the fundamentals. A new chassis. Discs on all 4 -> This is
not offered by even the big names from overseas. ABS with EBD across the variant range. These things to me are more important than the things you feel are of importance, especially given that you are in a vehicle weighing in at 2MT or so.
[] You have to read the reports of both vehicles i.e. M&M Scorpio and TML Safari on the board. Both have their fair share of hiccups & glitches, both are lagging in QC when compared to their overseas competitors. You want to condemn one for the other, be my guest - all of us have biases, you have yours and I have mine. These two are not in the league of their international counterparts and are not priced as such. Given that, what TML is offering seems fairly priced on paper. Is this VFM? That is debatable according to what you see value in.
As to how the final product handles in real life conditions, I will wait for the TBhp review and a few initial ownership reports to come in.
Good thing about Tata over Mahindra is that they design things much neater.
Just like the new Safari Storme. The design maynot be ground breaking but its quite neat and uncluttered compared to XUV500 which may look more modern but is overtly dramatic about everything.
Pricing is mixed bag as it doesnt translate it into vfm or overpriced. Its somewhere in between.
Just want to add one more point - Could not edit my previous post
With the exshowroom for Lx at 9.95L, the same for MOST OTHER CITIES will cross 10L taking the tax bracket to the higher level and severely impacting the onroad price.
Couldnt TATA motors have foreseen this atleast ?
I am not able to get into the Tata website for nearly half hour now. Hence if any of you have been able to see exshowroom in other cities please add in here.
Atleast they could have kept exshowroom Delhi at 9.75 to retrict this to <10L in all cities or followed a One India One price policy. That could have reduced the on road impact

Luke, pls note there is a little triangle on the chrome part that is to tell you the location of the latch. No need to grope :D |
:uncontrol
By the way, old one's slips if its wet. Hope they have made the new one's more grippy under wet condition.

its a nicely made ad, very slick but as a marketer do i really want to drive home the point that the customer is still paying for a 14 year old design Note from Support: Quoting a video hampers readability for our mobile users. |
How many drive Alto K10? How new is it?

For me Safari Strome is a waste of Time, Money, Resources which could have been spent elsewhere. Another DUD in the making. |
Yup late but they made it. XUV should be compared to Aria. Duster/Scorpio with Safari. And I presume you have driven the old gen and new Safari to comment so.

That's is fine, if only you could be diplomatic. I got your point, & I also know that Storme is much better than Safari. In fact, I am amongst those few who have listed out the USPs of Storme earlier as well. I believe pricing is good at the moment, & waiting for GTO & team to get back with another wonderful thread on the SUV with unbiased review.
But, I have a reason to complain to GTO, as my post to which you replied got deleted for no reason, when there are many posts for ranting & all negativity which are still there. |
If what all Tata have said and TBHPians like luke have said I right, I will go buy one again!

Even after taking into account a discount of 50K in present EX, the price of storme at 9.95 seems ok. because it has ABS and EBD with rear disc's |
Disc on all 4 will help. If my current Safari had this, man!
