I have just had a call from Hyundai also offering me 1.80L provided I buy the Hyundai Eon from them. Cost Rs. 3.60L. That's a whole lakh more.
GTO's review on the Eon was not great - the car I mean!

What do you think? Is it worth considering? At least I know their service will be better.
On the other hand their spare parts can be expensive.
I am also concerned about the ingress/egress (I am 5'11" and fairly "well built" or "healthy") and the lack of back seat space - something I don't think about in the Nano.

What do you think?

If at all there is any reason to consider Eon it is for child locks and airbags on the top variant (looking at the OTR it doesn't look like the top variant. Other than that I don't see why you are thinking twice on the Twist when it comes at a lakh lesser .

Same here, 5'11" and fairly "well built" or "healthy". With NANO, its not only the easy Ingress & Egress but also the commanding view of the road ahead with the high seating position that I really find useful in city traffic.

Wrt service, IMHO, as long as you stay with the car during service, it should be fine. Service Cost for Nano would barely be anything if one just chooses to buy the AMC. Additionally, the 4 year Warranty is all the more relieving.

Spare part costs for Nano are inexpensive.
Ex. My Nano's Accelerator cable broke last year (IMO this is NO big deal, it really could happen with even the best of brands AFAIK), and the part IIRC costed just Rs.160/-, it was changed FOC as car was u/d warranty.

Anyone noticed a problem with the Nano Twist's fuel gauge accuracy? I had taken a TD of the vehicle at Concorde MCIE a couple of weeks ago. I had got on the flyover to Faridabad and did a U-turn and were returning back to Concorde MCIE when the vehicle choked and came to a start on the flyover right in front of the Badarpur metro station. The SA with me called his manager and was told that the vehicle was out of fuel. The SA told him that the fuel gauge showed 2 bars and couldn't possibly be empty to which the manager replied the same. After an excruciating wait of 45 minutes in the humid and hot weather without any AC, a service car arrived and filled in some fuel after which the car started.

Dropped the idea of getting this car after this unpleasant experience. The less said about Concorde MCIE's service recovery (for a stranded car just 2-3 kms away), the better!

My story has taken a "Twist" - pun definitely intended!:D
When the sales guy came to do the final booking he claimed he had agreed to 1.60L on the phone NOT 1.80L.
However, what he did not clarify was that 1.60L (or 1.80L) was including all the discounts they were giving to any other new customer last month which effectively meant they were really only giving me 1.30L for my car.
They were willing to throw in free seat covers and a gold coin worth Rs. 3000.00 so final total was 1.36L.
They were willing to let me keep my alloys and transfer them to the new car.
I would therefore be paying 1.45L and giving my old car in exchange.
That did not sound like a very good deal to me so I cancelled it.
Basically I look at it this way. My car albeit 30 months old is almost new (run only 8800 Kms) and in genuine showroom condition. I have all the fittings (and more) of the new car EXCEPT Power Steering and the new speedo console. The latter is not a big deal - especially after reading the last post from "IMeMyself".
I don't think it's worth paying 1.45L just for the power steering.
What do you guys think?
I was thinking of waiting till Diwali to see what offers are going to be coming up then.

On another note, I visited the Maruti showroom today and have ruled out the Alto and the K10. Just won't fit me!!
Visiting Hyundai tomorrow to check out the Eon but I know I am going to have the same problem.
May have to try my luck with another Tata showroom and see what they say.

Basically the general concensus with dealers/agents/other showrooms is that the Nano has little or no resale value. Let's see.

Pretty costly power steering :)

Waiting till Diwali seems a better option - who knows if the Nano AMT is launched by then - though it appears bleak given that the Zest AMT launch is delayed probably due to rumoured availability issues of the AMT kits from Magneti Marelli.

Given your not-so-good experience with Tata service, I'd say you should consider Alto800 as an alternative. I have seen it at hardest roads with full capacity loading in many places in Maharashtra. Car seems to handle good.

If you are happy with non-PS, then the discount is good. But it is kind of offsetting the 1 year older car depreciation. 2.4L will be too much of a jump from 1L budget, isn't it?

Do take the test drives of both PS and non PS version and decide for yourself that how long do you plan keep it? If it is 4 years, then basically you are paying 1k more per month for having the comfort of PS :)

A little follow up to the post by "IMeMyself" and hopefully an eye opener to all those people who want to run out and buy the Tata Zest.

I had made an appointment for 10.00 am this morning with Ishwaria Motors in Bicholim, Goa 5 days ago to attend to an issue I have on the Nano where the brake warning light comes on (momentarily) every time I brake.

Before leaving home this morning I called them again and confirmed my appointment and was told to come by 10.00 am.

I drove approx. 25 Kms to the showroom/workshop which is supposed to be exclusively for Nano's.
When I got there I was casually told that the "technician" had not yet arrived and to wait. Interest level = minus Zero. No one (not even the boss lady) even knew if he was coming in or not.
The showroom was empty and a single grubby sofa sat in one corner. Faded posters and outdated "special offers" adorned the walls. Not a single car on display. The test car was not available. It turned up an hour later.

Meanwhile, to kill time, I went on a short test drive with the "Evaluator" who was going to make me an offer for my car.

After an hour and still no "technician" my temper was beginning to rise and I told them I would be leaving.
They were not bothered at all and told me to come back tomorrow.
Just as I was leaving (now 1 hour and 30 mins) another "technician" said he would check the car for me.
He first checked the handbrake switch - my suggestion and then after struggling to open the plastic connector (I was biting my tongue) connected to the brake fluid reservoir cap, he decided it was not an electrical issue (so he says!) and the brakes would have to be opened up.
I left at 12.00 in a really bad mood.
In the two hours I was there I was not even offered a glass of water never mind tea/coffee/soft drink etc.
The A/C in the showroom was barely functioning.
This is Tata at their "Horizonext" best!!!!

Even the "Evaluator" could not quote me a price for my old car. Says it takes two days.

Anyone who says that Tata service has improved - Sorry, no offence but take a walk and wake up in the real world. They will always be third class.

Tata's are talking about bar codes being put on your car and you will be informed on your smart phone as it goes from service bay to washing bay etc. Service will be completed in 4 hours etc. etc. etc. Poppycock!!

Just the day before I visited a Maruti showroom in Panjim. Met courteously at the door, shown to a table, water was brought and I was offered tea/coffee etc. and the sales rep was there in 5 minutes or less. She had all the brochures and took me to each car in the showroom as well as those just outside. Chilling air conditioning. Spotless showroom. The difference was night and day!

On the way back home today I stopped at a Hyundai showroom. Again, a huge difference. Plenty of parking outside. Salesman met me right away. Spotless showroom. Only three cars on display but as there was an Eon there and that's what I was interested in, no problem. Such a different attitude.

I am now beginning to wonder whether it's worth going in for another Nano. Maybe I will just keep this car and run it into the ground or sell privately and pick up a Waggie.
At least then I will have peace of mind.

The proverb in Sanskrit is "yatha raja thatha praja". It's the Tata culture to be complacent and unfocussed. This is transmitted to its dealers too and that's why customers get poor treatment. Until the discipline and focus required to make good quality and service come from the very top of the organisation, those at lower levels will not take it seriously.

Well said. You are absolutely right.
I guess I should not blame the "minions" as "attitude" filters down from the top.
Anyway, I went back again this morning (after first calling and checking that the technician was actually there and that they had all the necessary spares etc.) and "Lo and Behold", the problem was solved in 10 minutes flat.

The cover of the brake fluid reservoir which has a float and wires leading from it to the indicator on the dashboard was the culprit.
They changed that and the problem was solved.

The screeching noise from the brakes is still present but they say that is "normal" in the rains and to do a clean up after the rains.
I am willing to live with that for the time being.
I have already had the brake drums cleaned twice in the past and the screeching noise has started again after a couple of days, so....

So, to summarise, I have driven 100Kms+, spent Rs. 400.00 on petrol and worst of all, wasted two whole mornings (8 hours which I will never get back again!!) for a faulty brake fluid reservoir cap.

On another note and slightly off topic, does anyone know of any brake liners on the market which do not screech when wet???
Is the screeching noise coming from the liners or the drum or both??
Any advice would be much appreciated.
The noise is so loud it works almost as well as my horn.:uncontrol

I bought a Nano Twist last month for city driving as my Lancer is in for restoration. From day 1 I am closely tracking the mileage of the vehicle on a spread sheet. I will update this thread every month with findings. Attached is a screenshot of the sheet so far.

I refuel every time when the DTE reading goes below 50. So most refuelling has happened when DTE is between 40 and 50.

The "Average Mileage" is the total odometer reading divided by total litres of petrol filled.

"Mileage b/w fills" is the mileage obtained from the last fill.

I have added trip remarks also along with it.

This morning a leaflet was included in the newspaper. It was for the Nano XT at a festive price of 1.99 lakhs ex-showroom instead of 2.44 lakhs. This means Rs. 45k off! This is great news for those who are looking to buy now. But this makes me think that this could be a stock reduction measure before the new model is released.

Any news on the updated Nano?

This isn't normal. My brakes makes a rubbing noise when used after a few days of non use of the car, but this goes away once the brakes have been used a little - after about ten minutes of driving at the most. But my Civic does that too.
