Tata Nano Twist XT : Driven
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-drives-initial-ownership-reports/146600-tata-nano-twist-xt-driven-37.html)
The other day while we were coming from Karad towards Lonavla (Pune-Bangalore NH-4), there were 2 self driven rental Nano Twists which blazed past us, through the 4-laned stretch averaging more than 100 kmph!
On multiple occasions, we drew close to them but these tiny cars were insanely fast, accelerated real quick and we couldn't keep up! I was occasionally glancing at my speedo and we weren't really slow. Not sure if they are really stable at those speeds but the cars were fast.
@Gannu_1, The Nano is real quick when it comes to acceleration and it feels stable till you are within 80, but going past this mark is not advisable.
Being Ultralight, the crosswinds and draft of trucks make the car unstable, added to that the braking is not adequate enough to bring the car to a halt in case of exigencies
The wife and I just returned from a weekend trip from Delhi to Alwar. We took Chanda (our nano twist xt) along to ensure she got to stretch her legs a bit. We covered a distance of around 550 km in two days with a lot of stopping for sight seeing. The weather was pathetic and hampered our trip's original purpose, but it was amazing to see the aplomb with which Chanda handled the varied road conditions (potholes filled with rain, uneven roads, craters imported from Mars, and some slopes). While she does have her limitations, it is nice to know that she is an allround vehicle and looks like she is going to be around in my life for a while :)
AFE (ranged between 20-21.4 kmpl)
Took the Nano to Concorde today for the service Camp. The objective was to address the following issues.
1. Strange krr krr noise from the front passenger wheel side. SA checked it and has advised inspection of brake liner
2. Back suspension noise. SA has advised the bushes to be checked.
However, with the deluge of Cars, these problems could not be attended to and have booked an appointment on Thursday to fix them. So till then its back to my 2 wheeler for daily commute.
The other surprising fact is that when they checked the engine compartment, the coolant level was very low in the reservoir. Almost at the last quarter mark. Now does this imply that there is a leak or something??
Decided to wait until thursday to get the Service done.
Any update on the above issues Kutoos ?
Apologies, for the delayed and short post. The issues have not been resolved as of today. I could only take the car to the service centre on Saturday. Saturday was hectic and
1. The front passenger wheel noise never came up during the test drive, however hard i tried, net result, they just bled the brakes and cleaned the liners.
Today morning this came up again, and hopefully will be replicated when i take it on Wednesday.
2. For the rear noise, they could identify the issue and have requested for another day to investigate, hence taking it back to them on Wednesday when the load is relatively less.
Other Issues which were addressed:
1. Clutch Ply Settings
2. Horn Adjustments
3. Re calibrated the Power steering return
4. Fixed all rattling noise on the dashboard
5. Brake bleeding and cleaning
6. General top up of fluids.
Another issue i noticed was a couple of weeks when i took the car for the campaign, the coolant in the reservoir tank was abysmally low. the level was almost near the bottom of the tank. Advice to all Nano owners to check the coolant levels.
The SA says it evaporation, but i find it hard to believe.
Will post with further updates after the service on Wednesday.
Cheers
Update:
The Car was picked up today morning from my residence and serviced. The change done was to replace the liners and the suspension was found to be defective and replaced.
Pleasant surprise! Got a call from Pandit Auto - Pune Tata dealer. It was to confirm my residential address for delivering a gift. Got a small travel pouch/kit complete with items like small soap, shampoos, brush etc. All of good quality. Impressed!
Their service quality has also improved. Good effort to address perception issues.
However I still feel there is improvement needed on servicing front.

Hello Aditya,
That was one great review. A small rear-engined run-about (like the Nano) was one of my boyhood dreams when we would see the Renault Dauphin and the Fiat 500 on our way to school in Allahabad. Over time the dream was lost in the mists till today, when the new Nano Twist revived it again!
Alas, our needs today over-ride our dreams and after much debate at home, we got ourselves a Maruti Eeco, for the excellent reason that it has enough room at the back to take our dogs - while also sticking to our budget!

Was the liners replaced or the drums? Mine had all four drums and the rear suspension replaced under warranty.

No just the liners. The suspension was also replaced. As of now the vehicle seems to run fine except for rattles in the dashboard, which i guess is fine for the moment. Will resolve this at the second service due shortly.
What is the current OTR for Nano Twist XT? Heard offers are going on to clear old stock for new Gen launch.
I took the delivery of my pearl white Twist XT yesterday.
First impressions:
- Very silent compared to my previous Nano
- Clutch feels light and pleasant.
- The EPS is really good. It makes tight turns fun.
- The A/C is even more effective-I could not keep it on for more than 5 mins at a stretch (at the coolest temperature setting) while driving at night.
The only issue that I have found so far is that the sound system keys are going to get discoloured pretty soon. I'll paste a cellophane sheet to protect the buttons.
The Twist drives like a very competent budget family car. Let us hope it stays this way at least for the next 3 years :)
Not sure whether to post his here or in the Official Joke thread.
Yesterday after filling fuel, i had reset the trip meter to 0 as i usually do. Later i had changed the MID display to show the AFE which i normally do just to see how the AFE readouts are after filling. It was all fine and the reading slowly started creeping towards the 22 kmpl mark and sort of averaged out to 21.xxx by the time i reached office.
In the night after reaching home i just happened to glance at the readout and had the shock of my like, it was showing 33.6. Boy was i pleased. This euphoria lasted all night only to come crashing down today morning, when i checked the readout, it was showing the Trip reading and not the actual average consumption.
Well the good thing is that now i don't need to take the car to the service station to get the MID checked.
Cheers!
Had my first TD of a Nano today. The engine was quite silent, esp at idle. Being used to diesel SUV's, I kept stalling the car. But good feature was that the car gave 2 beeps each time the engine stalled.
The press-lock of the glove box wasnt working well. Guess it couldnt stand the abuse of being tested :)
