That rubber cup thingy falling has happened to me too. It is some cover to a shock absorber on the inside or something like that.

Many years ago I faced a similar situation with a Tata Motors' dealer re something to do with my Tata Estate, and the dealers carelessness at time of delivery. I insisted that they send down a mechanic & attend to the issue in my place, or else pay me fuel & time money to bring it there all over again. I copied the fax to Tata Motors office in Bangalore. A few hours later, a Tata 207 pick up rolled in with a crew of 2 mechanics to attend to a minor issue which they had apparently overlooked.

I think all consumers who feel "shortchanged" (as this case obviously is) should not keep quiet but make known their dissatisfaction as loud & clearly as they can.

Yes that is a cover for the shock absorber from the inside.

Just like Shakespeare's play All's well that ends well. The second time around, the SA Team leader accompanied me and finally was able to figure out the phantom noise (krr krr). It was not from the shock absorber as suspected earlier but from within the left glove ox compartment which also houses the Speakers (adjacent).

After 3 long months of back & forth rallies, the issue is now fixed permanently, and i am thankful to the team at concord Pune.

So to conclude, After a year and two shocks, the car is now as good as it was when it rolled out of the show room. Hoping that the PMC's claim hold true and the roads here dont open up.

Was very frustrated with Tata ASS last month.

Got the nano back from first service and then started to hear a thud every time i move the car in first gear and also whenever i would brake. Got really worried and took it for a check. It turned out to be just a loose spare wheel !!

Damn! i should have checked once before going there :Frustrati

But, the more important point was that the folks at the Tata ASS did not even bother to tighten the spare wheel (they said it might have been removed during the cleaning process).

Yes, checking is mandatory, People at Concorde forgot to fit the nut which secure the spare, fortunately it was found out before i drove out of the service meeting.

Odd thing I heard from the TATA dealer here in Shivajinagar:
The Twist is still being manufactured and the dealers are accepting orders for it. The waiting is 1 month and discount is currently Rs.20,000.

So both the new Nano and the previous Nano are available? Weird!

Heights of confusion !! The people at Concorde told me that the Twist will only be available as long as the old stocks exists. As the next gen has both the auto/manual combination it eventually replace twist, unless we have the electric version of the nano replace the new gen !!!

Cheers

Ran into an issue last week. The car was at my parents place and no one was at home. So, i tried to use the second key.

As soon as i would unlock the car , the alarm would go off making a ruckus. This did not stop even if i started the engine! I finally had to remove fuses to shut the damn thing up.

Apparently, using the second key without the remote is not possible. Which makes the second key useful ONLY in case the first one is inside the car. :Frustrati

Is this the same case with all cars or is it a feature of the Nano :D

Hi Rangan,

This would be an issue with all cars with a single remote. Remember you have armed the car with the remote and the alarm system has to be disabled with the remote or else you'll have the scenario you experienced. The only way around this is to buy a second remote from Tata and get it paired with the alarm system. This is what I did when I bought the car and it cost Rs. 2000.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
SS

I would like to bring to the notice of our members, what I personally think, is a design flaw in my (our) beloved Tata Nano.

I encountered a small accident about two months ago, wherein I rear-ended a Matiz (when he suddenly braked). I was not fast, may be 40-50 km/h when I rear-ended it. The Matiz had no scratch; not even on the bumper which my Nano rammed into.

And here is the list of damages to my Nano: air-con condenser, front bumper, front bonnet and the metal bar that holds the bumper (picture attached and marked with curved red line) and the bonnet lock was deformed.

The metal bar was deformed to an extent where it had to be completely cut and replaced. Technically, the metal bar is a part of the crumple zone but having the air-con condenser and other associated parts fixed to the same metal bar proved very expensive.

I strongly believe that if the AC condenser and the related parts were NOT bolted to the metal bar, I could have saved a lot.

Even the bottom of the air-con condenser is fixed to the bottom part of the chassis (marked by a straight red line) due to which the chassis got deformed slightly.

So every time one bangs into something, he/she WILL end up replacing the air-con condenser (not to forget the associated parts that hold the condenser in place), bumper and front bonnet and all of this just because they are all commonly held in place by the said metal bar.

Wish TATA would read this and possibly in their next upgrade, they can redesign the front-end in such a way that the damage is less, or in other words, the number of parts which need to be replaced (in the event of an accident) are minimum.

An associated problem is the very small vaccuum capacity of the servo, especially considering that the small 2 cylinder engine is at the rear & the servo in the front. After 2 or 3 pumps, the servo runs "dry" with consequent complete absence of servo assistance, especially when you need it most. I am considering building a small vaccum reservoir and attaching it to the servo for that much extra vaccuum capacity. I will keep this forum posted.

Hi S2, would you kindly get photos of the damaged air condenser from Mr Varghese? A crash at 40-50 kmph should have resulted in more damage than the bumper-bonnet-bonnet lock. I'm assuming that the crash was actually at maybe 20-30 kmph. I think the exhaust pipe of the Matiz might have punctured the AC Condenser necessitating a replacement.

Happens sometimes to me too. What I do (and what works for me) is to lock the car using the key one more time and then unlock it. For sanity's sake, if you want to test it, please take it to an isolated place where the ruckus may not bother other folks.

The sequence:
1) Lock with remote.
2) Unlock with key (Since the remote is a separate unit, it does not matter which key is used)
3) Cacophony ensues if you try to start the vehicle. The Nano probably thinks someone is trying to steal it.
4) Exit the vehicle, close the door and lock it.
5) Unlock it with the key again, start it and it is the melody of a refined auto-rickshaw engine again!

Has anyone tried upgrading the OEM speakers in Nano Twist?. Did go through the ICE sections in TBHP and other sites, there are folks who have upgraded the whole setup. I'm intending to keep the stock head unit and upgrade the speakers to better ones. Nothing wrong with the stock ones, but i feel they are pretty average.

1. What are the speakers that i can upgrade the current speakers to without any mods such as an amplifier.
2. Some had suggested that the way to go will be, use the speaker level inputs to an AMP (if it supports speaker level inputs, else need to use a line level converter). Then use the output to power the speakers. Has anyone tried this in a Nano?. Not sure if can keep the amp in the boot as the boot gets pretty hot on long journeys. Also i do not want to sacrifice the current boot space, hence no speaker boxes.
3. Has anyone tried replacing the speakers with better ones in the front speaker box in the dash?

One minor issue that i have noticed is that, even when the stereo is muted/turned off, there is a very slight hum from the front speakers, this is apparent when i increase the treble levels. This goes away when i switch off using the key and turn it back on, but comes back as soon i start playing something. I think this could be something to do with wiring or a capacitor went off. But thought it will be very complex to explain the folks at TASS and dont want then to mess with the system :). So have decided to live with it for the moment.

Planning to give a call to the service center tomorrow or may be take the car directly to have it checked. Do you have any update on your car, did the problem reoccur since the last time?.

I had the same issue with my new Nano GenX XTA also. Long press of the Set button reset the odomoter to Zero!! :Shockked:
