Re: Silver VW Jetta DSG Highline 2.0 TDI - Latest addition to our family

Yesterday, while doing a tyre pressure check, I enquired about the likely prices for my stock Goodyear NCT5 205/55 R16 (with 2500+km on ODO). Was quoted 3.75K per tyre for trading against a Michelin Primacy 3ST 205/55 R16 at Rs 10K per tyre.

Considering the suggestions (esp of what happens to NCT5 after 10K wearout), I went in for the deal. Paid 25K diff + 1K for (alignment & balancing) from Madhus Enterprises.

As of writing this review, I've driven 50km with the Michelins and I feel its definitely better.
- Braking performance has improved, I find this as the biggest difference when compared to NCT5
- I can feel a difference in noise levels at low speeds (haven't taken the car to high speeds yet)

Will update once I get a chance to take the car to highways.

Had a problem with the wheel alignment. Details posted in the thread here.

After the alignment check at VW Palace Cross, the problem has been fixed.

Ah, another happy VW Mysore customer... Welcome to the VW(+Mysore) club - Happy Motoring ;-)

That rotary switch to the left of the headlight switch is for varying the sensitivity of the auto headlamps - rotating it to max would do the trick!

Doesn't the HL RCD520 have a USB? My CL's RCD320 has one though!

Driver's view is one of the best I've experienced. Note how you can see the bonnet and the dashboard kind of disappears from view:

Many Congratulations on your new car. It's an excellent car to have. A very nice and precise write up as well. In my opinion you should put on the mud flaps. Although you will have to sacrifice some of its beauty but it will save the car in long term.

In your post you have said that you can see the bonnet from the driver's seat. Is it so? Can you see the bonnet from the driver's seat when you are driving the car from your normal driving position?

So does it help in driving around the city considering the fact that Jetta has a somewhat long bonnet and front overhang. Also as you have said that the car is a bit long for city driving, do you find it difficult to park it in a tight parking space specially in parallel parking?

I feel the driving position is really good and gives a good view, much better than some of the smaller cars (they have a huge dashboard).

Definitely the car being big needs more careful driving around the city/during parking than a small car like Micra/Polo. That said, the parking assist is really helpful, so haven't faced a situation yet where it was insanely difficult.

Also, generally found people staying out of the way of the car while driving

Congratulations for the silver beauty!
It looks stunning in silver colour. That side view pic in your first post is just stunning!
There are so many new Jetta reviews coming up each day, its hard to keep track
Great choice regarding P3ST, I was thinking of getting them too but the price was way too steep. Ended buying up Goodyear Assurance 205/60R16 for my Superb. Do update how the tyres fare in the long run in Indian scenario.

Anyways awesome article on detailing.
I do have a few questiosn for you:
1. Can you tell me what benefit/advantage does iron decontamination of wheels has?
2. What additional features you got activated via VCDS/VAGCOM during delivery?

Thanks dude!

Answers
1. Iron decontamination removes the brake dust that comes from the wheels. It gives more longevity to the paint & finish is what I understood.
2. No additional features yet. Will ask VW guys during my 1st service if anything can be done.

You'd have to get a VW MDI USB cable to use USB. I think Amar (Amarendranath) is contemplating getting a USB added below the central head unit, that's something else you can explore.

Hey nice details about the detailing. Thanks.

But, is it just me or the "after polish" photo really shows some tubelight and some cans on wall?

Does it work with Skoda Bolero HU(which is quite similar to RCD510 HU)?
If yes, kindly tell me the equipment and skill level needed to do the mod.

It does show that way! The finish was really awesome. It took about 5-7 mins of buffing on that panel to get into that finish. They used Scholl 3 Gold polish which has an extra heavy cut to remove the scratches.

The real beauty of the coating is known when you spray water on the car. Water just washes off the body and doesn't stick. Will take a video the next time I wash the car and share it.
