If you need best performance even better than Octavia and may be similar even to the Laura its the Verna CRDi. |
The Verna CRDi beats the Laura by a mile in outright acceleration.

congrats aman! teh first Verna @ TBHP?
i went and checked out the car. saw in 3 colours as yet. gold dark blue and some dark brown which was very very nice for sure. the car i guess is overhyped for sure since the most expensive one is close to 9.7 laks which is a lot. the good thing is even if u buy base model u can choose abs in any model. sad thing crdi they dont offer the climate control at all. i wanted to see the top end petrol did not get to see it though, saw the normal ones. the petrol has VTVT badge on the sides which is a good change though when u open the hood it says CVVT now whatever that means same car with 2 diff badges. deliveries have started in this week itself i guess. this car is only better in the diesel version. in petrol i think the NHC is still much better for sure. its just new and in india i feel everything and anything sells that is new to the customers. people will buy the car for sure. good car but overpriced because they still want to sell the accent god on earth knows why.
for me Verna Petrol XI makes lot of sense its like swift vxi VFM model for sure :) CRDI VGT Diesel is too costly and it has just basic features, as mentioned by few BHPians CRDI VGT Diesel is well suited for performance lovers and person who use the car very much.
Colors look awasome and lot of option to choose between. I personally liked Passion Red (for young gun) and White(for professional) and Black(business class). Hyundai paint is really great they have good quality control maintained always.
Does any one know how much it costs for ABS ?
Regards,
Ravi.
The only thing i didnt like about Verna....Gear shifts not slick n the lever is Aveo ish...
Just a thought. Hyundai knows for sure that the diesel version is way better than it's petrol siblings. So what can they do? They cannot increase the prices drastically, as it would kill the potential sales. They cannot reduce it by a huge margin too, as the diesel engine is imported, and would affect the margins; not to mention affect the petrol's sales.
The only way out is to deliberately reduce features, and make the petrol seem more attractive. Reducing features like alloys and climate control do not affect the car's character or basic functionality, but makes the petrol sibling look much more rosy.
A small price to pay, if the engine is good enough. Have driven the Accent CRDi for some distances, and I can swear by the torque. The imminent shove while prodding the throttle is addictive, to say the least. The Verna is more powerful than the Accent CRDi by over 25%. Reason enough to make me happy.
I think the fully loaded xxi petrol is the better option for most people. Diesel version lacks some of the features of xxi and makes sense only if you spend lots of time on highways etc. Petrol seems the sensible bet.
But I guess they should have made the Seat Height Adjuster and Automatic Climate Control standard for all models. Is the Automatic Climate Control too costly to install?

It is almost imposible to install a climate control in any car in the open market. Only the manufacturer can do it.
Buying the CRDi for the engine alone would be like buying the OHC. IMHO if the diesel is half the catapult that people claim that it is we will see the same kind of crowd buying the CRDi. Personally, if I were plonking down 8 very big ones of my hard earned money I would expect some minimum functionality no matter what kind of engine is under the hood. Especially when I can pay Rs.1 lakh less and get more.
I think the petrol makes more sense here. Torque freaks may go in for the diesel, though.

i totally agree. climate control is an expensive feature but seat height adjuster according to hyundai costs 17k but they should have included that and also rear adjustable headrests. c'mon even small cars are coming with that now for convienience.
also as someone had asked, abs for the verna costs a bomb-80-90k according to the showroom in bangalore

Nope, ABS dont cost a bomb. One BHPian was mentioning that it will cost only 20,000 bucks and disc brakes at the rear too is an option along with ABS. Thats a good thing from hyundai.
