fantastic review superamerica, and to think that you have made only 10 posts here since June, it is a loss to this forum. we need people like you to be around more often than that. once again, thanks for a fantastic review. :):)

Diesel one is scary. Wheelspinning into 3rd gear, that too engine not fully run in. And it pulls like a freakin locomotive. Torque on the petrol isn't too bad either, though it's not too revvy.

Not really Steer!! There was this sort of urgency and madness after I got the thing under my feet. And my cousin was looking for a car in this price range. So, after a phone call to him (a pukka diesel fan he is), I decided to sign that. Hence, it may not still make it into my driveway. :Frustrati

One thing to be agreed here. Hyundai is changing and they still have to travel quite a long distance. The Verna is a sign that they've actually travelled some distance by now.

Hyundai is doing great by bringing good cars, VFM cars. It would have been great if they would have showed that their cars are more safer too by providing ABS and Airbags as std.

New Fiesta 1.4 and 1.6 out! Ford has started playing the old game...bringing so called Limited Edition models!

Only for petrol versions though!

I test drove a Verna XXI Petrol (top end):

(+) Very silent cabin - a huge change from Petrol Viva/Accent GLS. I mean it.

(+) Very good rear view mirros (electric, left and right) - Typical Hyundai Mirrors, Better than VIVA
(+) Very good interior, good plastic, good buttons, displays,
(+) Generates max torque at 3000 RPM (low RPM). Very good and makes city driving easy. Reasonably similar to Baleno and Ford Ikon 1.6.

(+) Handling of turns - couldn't try too much, but above average

(+) Good factory fitted music system with tweeters and speakers in XXI.
(+) Good fog lamps - rectangular - different from typical Hyundai round fog lamps.

(+) Hyundai says that engine technology is same as in Sonata Emberra which makes it fuel efficient as 12-13kmpl in City. I have no comments.

(+) XXI comes with automatic climatic control. Nice controls - look Gen X+1. Controls aren't Aveo/Fiesta type chrome...I do not like Aveo/Fiesta interiors. so I like this one.

(+) In-cabin storage space - Plenty - specs slot, too many bottle holders

(+) Gear shift smooth - no issues, never missed the gear. Just as same as Ford IKon 1.6. I didn't try the reverse gear though. It is GM type.

(+) Gear shift knob - Very good - significantly better than Viva. KNob has good a hand grip.
(+) XXI has alloy wheels.

(=) XXI seems to have an Eletronics Power Steering. Though specifications do not seem to mention that, But it was definitely not a typical Hyundai Hydraulic PS. It is as sensitive as Wagon R VXI. So, I assume it is EPS. I don't like EPS or that sensitive steering, but some do:)

(=) It seems to have "power" brake. It feels like driving a Pulsar with Disk Brake after driving Splendor with drum brake. At low speeds, this brake stops car too quickly. In high speeds, it seems a normal brake. I didn't like it much, But could be useful for some

(=) XXI comes with a display that shows how much car will run on remaining fuel. As always, this feature sucks - call it "useless". I tested it earlier in Fiesta SXI, now I checked it in Verna. When I started the Verna, it was showing 83. After 1.5km in ~3rd gear, it showed 66, after another km, it showed 65 and after 500m in 4th gear, it showed 71. Doesn't help me - not at least somebody like me who wants clocks to be precise in seconds.

(-) Shape - nothing that you would like to die for. Pretty much Viva-like rear. Front - something that I didn't die for

(-) Driving seat height adjustment: Disappointed me. Unlike VIVA, it has dual adjustment. But I was surprised to see that even at max height, it was just not enough. I am 5'10", and for me driving height is just right. For somebody like 5'5" or 5'6", it could be tough in traffic like Bangalore. Compare the feature with Ford Ikon 1.6 or Baleno 1.6VXI or Esteem, this is pretty disappointing in Verna. Typical Hyundai - not much different from VIVA.

(-) View of rear traffic through central rear view mirror + rear winshield = Below Average. Rear seats block the view. Disappointing compared to Ford Ikon

Fiesta Vs Verna - For me, Verna is better as an overall package. Lower
price, better interiors, better servicing, better resale value (should be),

Final note: I own a Ikon 1.6ZXI, My previous car was Santro. And I have driven 24 differents cars from 11 manunfacturers.

But still Steeroid you've also changed from your anti hyundai stance. Once I thought you're anti hyundai without any reason like some here and many others in other forums.

Steeroid - anti-Hyundai? that's ridiculous - he actually owns(ed?) an Accent, a Petrol at that. and has zealously defended it here for a long time.

I think the community here is pretty rational and un-biased, as far as online communities go. The CRDIs always had a good rep around here - its the Petrols that are not too favored by the community. However, I still find a lot of people appreciating Getzes, Santros and Accents for their sheer family appeal.

Hi, does anyone know the actual mileage of the diesel version of verna?

How does the Petrol Version compare to NHC (non VTEC) in terms of FE, performance, ease of driving?

any verna owners around ? can i know which colour yourl think suits the verna best

That's interesting. According to them, even the puny Fiesta diesel is quicker than the City VTEC, in 20-80 and 40-100 runs.
I guess that's just in-gear acceleration. Still pretty impressive, and tells how far the Diesels have come.

Come to think of it, it does not look good in any color;) i was hugely disappointed with this cars look ( infact when you look from outside, it looks smaller than accent..thats what i felt) anyways, i am glad i got the viva crdi ( passion red)...i guess that color will suit verna too. Or else go for Black ( all time fav color)....they also have a nice deep blue color...so decide between these 3 good colors...just my two cents...good luck and let us know which color your picked up
