Verna Petrol is not a great if u want something different from the old Accent except for the look......
The Diesel is a wild bitch and its worth buying it even for its engine....Just wonder what it will become with all the mods Drifter has in his CRDi......
Butttttt guys today a 2 day old Verna CRDi came with a non functional reverse gear....:Shockked: ......Prob rectified within 2hrs n i hope this doesn't bcome a common prob.....

Did u drive the Verna Petrol? I wasnt allowed it to drive outside the dealership because RTO still hasnt given approval in Cochin. But the short drive I made inside the dealership made me feel its a lot better than Accent GLE. Refined and I guess it has got good performance.

The Petrol felt similar to a Tornado which i drive around.....Its different from GLE for sure more torque n refined
Guys, finally managed to hop a ride in the Verna crdi along with iRaghava and here is my short review.
Exteriors
1. The looks of the car are very plane jane and I honestly doubt anyone will get excited over them.
2. The rear numberplate's chrome garnish has a cheapo effect. Would have been much better if in body color.
3. The build quality seemed excellent. The shut lines, paint job, etc all impressed me.
4. Doors close with a satisfying thunk.
Interiors
1. The interiors are very well built with what seemed like quality materials.
2. They lack design flair. But with optional wood trimmings will look really nice.
3. The seat height adjust was something I sorely missed in the crdi model.
4. The rear seat is fine and hardly as cramped as others are saying. Lets just say its as good as any other car in the segment.
5. Parking/reversing may be a problem cause the bonnet isn't visible and the boot is too high.
6. The driving position is pretty good with good all round visibility and every control falling to hand.
Engine and gearbox
1. The Engine is an absolute monster. Wakes up from around 1800rpm and doesnt let up till about 4100rpm. Still want more power... hahrl:
2. The refinement levels are almost amazing. No vibes in the pedals/gear lever even close to red line.
3. The gear box is a tad notchy though the shifts are pretty well defined.
4. I think the engine can pass off as a mildly unrefined petrol engine easily. Heck my Santro Xing whines a lot more when given the stick treatment.
Handling and Braking.
1. The car felt very composed over bumps and dips in the road surface.
2. The ride quality is pretty good with not much road noise.
3. The braking seemed more than adequate. I'm sure with ABS + discs it'l go a a level better.
4. The steering was a tad light for my liking.
Overall Ratings(out of 10).
Style - 6
Engine- 9.5
Gearbox- 7
Fit and Finish- 8
Ride- 7.5+
Handling- ?
Brakes- 7.5(non ABS)
VERDICT
HURRY HURRY HURRY
PS: For all those debating between the NHC and the Verna. Trust me, no way is the NHC the all mighty god. The verna(petrol) might just be better :-)
THE CRDI ALREADY IS ;)
The reviews seem to be screaming the same fact...that verna is a great machine...but then i wonder why isnt hyundai advertising it well enough to get the attention of everyone...
Except from the members of teambhp , i haven`t heard anthing about verna, nowhere...infact people aren`t even aware that verna has been launched...
except for santro, hyundai doesnt seem to be bothered to advertise any other of their cars ??!!

Hyundai seems to be reading this.... 1 day i say the above and the second day i see a tv commercial for verna !!!:D
Hi. Has anybody test driven the petrol version of the Verna? They seem to only have the CRDi. But guess the car is a hit..there's already a 4 week waiting period!! :-)
I asked in Ludhiana, the waiting period is 0 days for the red color, and for the dark blue its around 5-7 days(2 weeks max).
If anybody wants a Verna CRDI the Kayra colour (Dark Brown Metallic) & Rare Earth (Golden) are readily available here at a dealer I know. Non-ABS cars of any colours can be procured within 3-5 days but ABS is a minimum of 15-20 days since the cars are manufactured only on order.
The last 3 posts seem to prove the theory that Diesel sells more in the south!

I can vouch for that, diesel is a craze in my home state[kerala] as well.
A relative of mine in trivandrum does not drive on weekdays and whatever little driving is there is on weekends that too minimalistic ,once in a bluemoon longtrips are there that too max 100-150 kms away, but still is going in for a tata indigo only because it is diesel powered for fuel savings.

Quite possible - I saw a red XXi on Sunday, 1st October on Kolkata roads, with registration number et al. So, delivery and registration must have happened last week.
Seems Petrol XXi tops the booking at Tvm,
XXi 7.40lac OTR
Crdi 7.85lac OTR
ABS @ 20k extra for Verna
Elantra (minus Airbags and Climate Control, but with EBD,ABS etc) 9.07lac OTR
Elantra (loaded) 9.94lac OTR
Elantra (loaded + leather ) 10.07lac OTR
White oen looks smaller. The maroon one looks bigger. First delivery for petrol starts 2mrw or so here. I should be testdrivin a petrol one by weekend, but heard its powerful and damn silent.
Even with 4 person and AC on; teh engine was terrific! Whooper! Built quality is good.
Think Cherry Red color takes 7 weeks for delivery.
The 2007 Elantra would be a 135bhp one right and it should be priced abve 10 lac starting and there should be a newer pricing for the Hyundai cars to push Verna and Elantra sales.
is the fiesta better or the verna on..
1) Refinement
2) Engine response -(Pick-up)
3) Handling
Refinemet = Yes fiesta is better but verna is not much away its better than elentra in refinement. just a diffrence of 19 / 20.
Engine response = Verna
Handling = Ford are known for drivers car.

As a petrolhead myself, its nice to eagerly await a new car in the market. But, should Team-BHP be worried about inadvertent marketing of new cars(car companies) especially since they wouldn't yet be properly owner-tested over a sensible duration?
