GTI Type Projector Headlamps

Update 7 : GTI Type Projector Headlamps
2015 VW Polo GT TSI - 7500 km / First checkup update!-1.jpg

So I wanted to add a little style to the car to went for the Eagle Eyes GTI type headlamps. These are Taiwan made and I got them for a local dealer in Chandigarh for 23k. These have projectors for both the low and the high beam. The headlamps are of very good quality and the DRL’s are bright. These came with halogen bulbs already installed which hardly threw any light. Initially I thought of going for some good halogens so I have currently installed the Philips Crystal Vision as low beams and Philips White Vision for the high beam.

Color for both of these is 4300k but the White vision is much warmer and actually feels like 4300k whereas the Crystal vision is much whiter and feels more like 5000k. Currently the low beam is not grounded like it should be and goes up towards the trees and the high beam is actually focused towards the ground which I have to get adjusted somehow. Still the visibility is better than the stock bulbs these came with. I though the halogens would do the trick but it seems like I have to go for the HID’s sooner or later. However I am yet to see the difference after I get the beams focused at the right position. Here are the photos :

Corrected the Beam

So yesterday it took 3 hours of hardwork and a lot of patience to correct the angle of the lens so that I get the beams at the right spot. There are screws at the back of the lights to rotate the lens and one can do it all by himself. I have lowered the low beam and raised the high beam and the results are simply great. Refer to the video for the same :

Your GT TSI looks stunning with those GTI type headlights.
Does the red stripe above the LED-indicators have any function? Was the stock headlight switch compatible with the updated setup?

Thanx a lot Tojo_GotBhp
The red strip is just for styling and has no function. The stock plug connects directly to the headlamps so it was a simple plug and play process.

This has to be placed in the slot and screwed up tight
Attachment 1483912

Did you remove the center channel completely to put it in the slot ? I'm unable to do so.

No mate I did not go removing the central channel beyond what you see in the picture. I just used a screw driver which was slim & long. It is difficult but you should be able to do it. I first tried to get it in the place from the sides which I was not able to, so I tried from the back side and after some effort I was able to get it in the slot. Pull it from the back as shown in the picture and try to slot it.

From Halogen to LED bulbs

Update 8 : Replaced Halogen with LED bulbs
2015 VW Polo GT TSI - 7500 km / First checkup update!-1.jpg

I had previously replaced the stock bulbs with Philips Crystal Vision halogen bulbs but still felt the need of something brighter. The obvious choice was to go for the Hid bulbs but just wanted something less complicated yet brighter, so I started my search for LED bulbs. Didn’t find anyone who had an experience with Led’s before so this was going to be a hit and try thing. Came through a lot of Led bulbs on aliexpress and finally found something that looked appropriate.

Advantages of LED bulb :
  • Much brighter than halogen bulbs (comparable with 35w Hid)
  • Power consumption : 40w
  • IP68 Water Proof
  • Simple plug & play like halogen bulbs

Disadvantages of LED bulb :
  • Expensive(55w Chinese Hid’s cost the same and are brighter)
  • Lengthy in size compared to Halogen bulbs (There should be sufficient space behind the headlamps)

The product I bought : http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Runst...440082796.html
Price : 58$

The reason I went for this particular one is because the total output is rated at 4800lm per bulb whereas the other bulbs ranged from 3000-4000lm, so this was definitely brighter than others. Secondly most of the other led bulbs come with inbuilt fan for effective cooling and some people who had purchased those complained about too much noise coming from them. So this particular one comes with copper thermal conduction tube at its back instead of fans which help in better cooling.

As far as the light is concerned, it is certainly brighter than the halogen bulbs and I find it as good as a 35w Hid which I had been using in my chevy cruze. The only color available is 6000k which is a bright white light. The only problem I faced was with installation since the Led bulb is significantly lengthy as compared to the halogen. In the polo there was hardly any space behind the headlamps and I just managed to squeeze these somehow and the plastic cover behind the bulbs also had to be cut. Overall I am very happy with the result, check images for the same.

Update 9 : Installed Steering Control Interface and other Accessories

Steering Control Interface: Rs 3000
Ever since I had installed the JVC head unit, the steering wheel controls had stopped working. So got the steering control interface installed which just took 5 minutes to install and setting up the controls. These interfaces are available for different brands of Head Units and mine was specifically for JVC. Setting up the controls is easy and one can set the function of each button according to the preference by going to the setting menu of the HU.

Mobile Anti-Slip Pad & Holder : $ 5.46
This has become my favorite accessory and really is worth the price. I ordered it from aliexpress and it acts both as a mobile anti-slip pad and holder. I think this is a much better way of using devices for navigation and there is no requirement of those typical windshield mounted mobile holders. I tried to fit my Samsung Galaxy S6 first which did not fit since it is very slim, then I tried fitting my Moto G 3rd gen and it got fit in well. So in case of slim devices one can purchase a cheap case just to make the phone thicker.

Reverse Camera & Soundstream Damping

Update 10 : Installed Reverse Camera & Soundstream Damping

Soundstream Deathmat Damping: Rs 6000
After installing the new speakers I could hear distortions from the doors in some songs so decided to get the damping done. Got it done from a local dealer and he charged Rs 1500 for each door. So 4 sheets 4sqft each were used and the job was done neatly. After the installation the distortions have reduced significantly and now the bass from the speakers sound tight.

Reverse Camera : Rs 3800
I was looking for getting a reverse camera installed on the polo so got myself a Genuine VW Reverse Camera from vagtune. Searched for the same in Chandigarh but was offered the one that gets installed in the center of the rear bumper. I never wanted to go with that therefore got what I just wanted, thanks to vagtune. The camera turns on as soon as the reverse gear is engaged. The view is wide and clear in the daylight as well as in the night.

Brilliant stuff Nischal, the mods are tastefully done and not over the top. Wish you lots of happy miles with the pocket rocket.

Liked the anti slip mat - looks so much better than the generic stuff we get in ebay India and which are frankly a waste of money. Mind sharing the url of Aliexpress please? Also, are the parking lights specific to a connector type or universal? I've been looking for OEM white number plate lights for my Estilo but no luck

Thanx a lot digitalnirvana,
Here is the link for the Mobile holder : http://www.aliexpress.com/item/free-...622071230.html
I think these are universal. I had previously changed these in my previous cars aswell and all where of the same type. You can google "T10 bulbs" for the same and here is the link to the one I ordered : http://www.amazon.in/Osram-LED-2880C...ilpage_o03_s00
