Congrats MadAbtCars on your latest acquisition and it looks fab

You know you have a winner when your stead's gear changes are Damn Sure Good (DSG) !!

IMO Rapid was only lagging behind in the modern features that VW had bestowed its cousin Vento with. With these changes now incorporated onto the Rapid, I see no reason for anybody to ignore Rapid in the Sedan segment.

In fact, with the latest updates on the Vento, it has transformed itself into an all out executive sedan, while these changes on the Rapid has made it heck a lot more sporty.

Wish you a very happy motoring and effortless mile-munching.

Congrats! A beautifully written and a refreshing review straight from your heart. VAG group cars are really nice, but their parent companies play the spoilsport at-least in India. Hope you enjoy every moment with your new car. The only thing which I dislike in all the Rapids is the black alloy wheels that look like as if they are an after thought addon rather than a factory fit. But apart from that it is a nice car.

Thanks Karan. Though there were other color options available as well in black package (Silver & Cappuccino Beige), However I personally like car's especially sedan's in white color. Gives it a more elegant and executive look. In Rapid's case it is even more sweeter since the black elements gets prominently highlighted in White.

After I booked the car, there were few people who asked me what color is the car. On my reply they used to exclaim "White Color !!" as if white is not a color.

And by the way, Your video reviews are a treat to watch too !!

Congrats on your new acquisition !
She looks really beautiful with the black treatment . Nicely written review too.

Wishing you a problem free and safe ownership.

OT:

Have to say, you are a brave man. Even after all these horror stories of Skoda and the infamous DSG stories you went with your heart

I will never have the courage to chose those two together (for me Skoda+DSG=Deadly Combination )

Re: Happiness is 'Doing Something Good' (DSG) : My Skoda Rapid TDI DSG in Black & White

Congratulations, Welcome to the club Rapid, and Wish you lot's of happy mile munching.. Rapid for sure is a great car,,
My experience with VIIRAAJ Skoda - Pune, has been very good - both on the Sale and Service aspects,

Have a question,
In the Pic - Steering Wheel, how come there are NO Audio/Phone controls,
My 2014 - Elegance TDI (Manual) has it,, wondering if this got removed from the top trim for Auto..

Another query is, Do you get Rear Washer/Wiper?

I terribly miss this (got used to in my older car..) and couple of things present in the new model, Integrated Indicators in ORVM's, Auto dimming IRVM, I don't mind shedding some cash, if they retro fit these for me,,

Congratulations on your new buy. No matter how many horror stories you have heard before, the magical DSG gearbox will make you forget all that. Especially driving in the mad traffic will be no more stressful like before!

Wish you good luck and great time with your car

MadAbtCars
Did you do Sales in MBA?
Please tell me [and for the benefit of many others here], how did you sell the idea of going for a new car to your wife, when you already have a perfectly running car which still looks good and performs well?

I need this tutorial urgently as I am looking for a new car while my present car is 3 years old. My situation is a bit more complicated as I want to keep my current car and go for a new one.

Just to add to that, I over sold my present car to my wife when I brought it, telling that it is the best car [it IS] and agreed to her condition of not changing it for 8 years [Agreed, just like any of us here will do].

Now tell me, what should be the pitch now?

Re: Happiness is 'Doing Something Good' (DSG) : My Skoda Rapid TDI DSG in Black & White

Congratulations on your new purchase and thank you for sharing a nice review of the same. I've always loved the looks and performance of the Rapid. Both are neat. It’s just the inconsistent after sales service and the low ground clearance of this car that turns me away from it. My friend owns one in red I think it looks smashing; probably the best red colored car in that segment.

Re: Happiness is 'Doing Something Good' (DSG) : My Skoda Rapid TDI DSG in Black & White

Congratulations on your new rapid and wish you many happy miles. Thank you for the Very comprehensive review with all the emotions expressed.

Skoda looks like a tank and is built like one too.

Their emblem oozes authority, a very statesman like car with such strong character in the design.

Its really a pity that their service after the sales is abysmal.

I'm damn sure that if Maruti puts up a school for teaching these companies how to do afss, they will make profit that way too!!!

I always have this doubt, if Japanese and Korean companies come here and can give very good afss with Indian staff then why can't skoda and Tata do it.

Re: Happiness is 'Doing Something Good' (DSG) : My Skoda Rapid TDI DSG in Black & White

Congratulations on acquiring the Diesel rocket!!

I am sure you will enjoy every drop of fuel burned in it, and the monster will always leave you behind with a smile on your face every time you press your right foot.

Coming to the alignment issue, I have also face the same problem in my Vento. Literally, I had to argue with the SA to convince him about the problem and even after keeping the car for a day they did a shabby job.

On the drive back I noticed that the car was not handling like before, so I checked the tyre pressure, it was whopping 45 psi on left side and 30 psi on the right, it turns out that workshop guys had fix the problem by increasing the tyre pressure on the left side.

Finally, I had to take the car to a third party alignment shop to fix it.

In spite of the terrible after sales service, nothing can stop us from loving our cars.
You made a wise choice, Rapid is a fast and efficient mile-muncher.

Re: Happiness is 'Doing Something Good' (DSG) : My Skoda Rapid TDI DSG in Black & White

Congratulations for making this beauty a part of your family and thanks for very well written first ownership review. This black package made an already beautiful car more appealing. IMHO Rapid is Skoda’s(India) only saving grace in these hard times for VAG. The DSG puts an example of how an automatic should drive. I hope you will keep this car for a longer period than your previous rides.

Con

Congrats on your new SKODA. Wish you many happy miles on your new ride. Awesome ownership report.
Sorry to hear about your dealership experience. Every time I read a SKODA review; I hope to hear about at-least one positive dealership experience. But most of the time I am disappointed. One thing that always bothers me is how can the after sales service vary so much from one car maker to the other. Take your own case:Toyota's fuss free ownership and SKODA's shady after sales service. The people at these dealerships/service centers are not from Japan or Europe. They are essentially our own people. So how come the people at Toyota and Maruti are almost always civilized, honest and eager to serve while those at SKODA/VW are mostly arrogant and cunning?. What makes them so different?. Do the car makers have something to do about this?. Does Toyota and Maruti's are so good in choosing the right dealerships? Or is it just a coincidence?. Its almost a universal truth that Toyota offers the best ownership experience. They must be doing something right. If so, why can't SKODA/VW take a leaf out of Toyota's book and improve their ASS?. Any idea fellow Bhpians?

Re: Happiness is 'Doing Something Good' (DSG) : My Skoda Rapid TDI DSG in Black & White

Congratulations on your new ride! Great choice, you're going to enjoy yourself thoroughly.

To put your mind at ease, the difference in the paint finish along the side skirts of your car are intentional. Its what they call a 'Rough Road Package'. Basically it protects your body from paint chips and nicks that would have otherwise occurred from everyday use on our roads. I've got it on my Polo as well. Although, its not very prominent on my car as I opted for a darker colour.

Nice initial and planned set of mods as well. I would get a black roof wrap as well, but thats just me. And I know what you did with that picture at top speed and RPM. Quite a celebration eh?
