This cannot be disabled by yourself. However its 5 min job at service station. Through GFF functions there are many configurations which can be turned on or off. When you visit service station for first checkup etc ask them to show you all GFF function and configure as per your preference.

They might charge 600-700 for this, I am not sure the exact price. During some service they in any case do GFF and charge customer so better to club it.

The most pressing question I have right now is how to disable the horn sound when locking and unlocking the car. The manual gives no answers to this.

After this, I would really like to see the camera fitment and the output in your car. This is one thing I would like to have in my GT too.

Many thanks!
Honking while lock and unlocking the car can be stopped by VCD’s. A couple of other cool features can be activated at the same time. Get it done when you go for the 7500 kms service. Will send pictures of the installed camera as well as the output on screen in a day or 2.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Here’s the camera view for you. The fitmemt is in between the parking sensors on the rear bumper. Let me know if you need any further info or pics.

Hey thanks, that looks great. I may have missed it in your original post, but do you mind sharing the price of the camera accessory? And the install was done at the dealership? No fear of warranty break issues I guess.

Hi, the installation was not from the showroom as their accessories pricing is ludicrous ( accesories, apart from insurance is where they make maximum money in a car sale) It costed me under 3k only for the camera as the display was in the oem HU screen. Nope no loss of warranty as no wires were cut.

VW downtown mumbai , price list of Accessories

This is the price list for accesories by VW/Shaman(dealer) for their cars. Hope this helps, and also helps understand the huge profit margin the dealer has as opposed to you getting it done from outside.

Hi MihirC,

Thanks a lot for sharing this. I see dicky mat for all the cars (Ameo/Vento). I didn't know this was available. This would be quite useful to keep the boot clean.

I will check with the local dealer here.

Regards.

Which brand of Coolant for the GT TSI

Hi guys,

Since I’m getting ready for the Gujarat/Kutch road trip in a couple of days( leaving early morning 2nd November), was planning to take a can of coolant with me just in case.

GT TSI like Punto has the pink/red coolant. I had been to one of the local but well known car spares shop and they suggested me a coolant which is VW approved and also used in Mercs, which has a purplish colour as that’s the colour pigment MB uses it seems for coolants in their cars.

So the guys said that although the pigment colour is different, I can still use it for the GT TSI. Please advise. Please find the attached pictures below. The coolant recommended by the shop owner is the first pic, the ones underneath are the ones I used in my Punto.

Thanks!!

Go for red/pink. Why? Because your car uses pink. Check if its diluted or you need to dilute it with water (use bottled water) when using it.

!
my suggestion, dont waste time and money on buying this. Trust your car. you are not gonna need it unless there is a big leakage done to radiator coils. If you still need to be safe than sorry, i would suggest buy one from VW service center. May be bit expensive, but piece of mind and you can use the same during next service.

By the way, Welcome to Gujarat. Kutch is going to have nice cold weather now a days and that will help only.

Completely agree with Mission_PGPX

Whats the chance of needing a coolant on a road trip? Plus you can always use water in the worst case.

Just check engine oil and coolant levels before leaving for the trip. Usually coolant topup is almost never needed on a road trip for a well maintained modern car.

Update post the road trip to Gujarat/Kutch

Guys!! Back from my road trip to Gujarat/Kutch. Almost 3000 kms done over 10 days. The odo stands at 6200 kms already.

There’s not one thing about the car which let me down,

1) Ample Power for highways,
2) burst of power for those split second unplanned overtakes, even when you are already in triple digit speeds
3) Almost 300 kms a day, usually nonstop, everyday for 10 days and there was absolutely no fatigue or lower back ache. To give a comparison, a nonstop drive to Mahabaleshwar from dadar gave me a stiff back in Punto. The seat comfort over long distances is unbelievable.
4) Thankfully we never had to brake in emergency, but even under hard braking (without ABS kicking in) the brakes were capable enough!!
5) Not that FE was a concern but got 18.9 kmpl driving between 80-100 kmph and 15.5 kmpl when driven hard.

The only drawback was the car shudders and how they bumps or potholes.

Will follow up with detailed post and description shortly.

A must must car to have if anyone’s looking out for a small automatic.

Almost 11,000 kms update.

Guys, Its been a year, And the car is nearing almost 11,000 kms. It has been an eventful year and how.

Sadly haven't got to drive around much after the Kutch rod trip. Also the kind of mess Mumbai is in right now, with the bad roads in monsoons, The HELL called traffic due to the metro works in progress, not been too keen to drive either.

I think Mumbai is reaching a stage where even the convinience in use of an automatic car is negated in every possible way.

Major highlights after the Kutch road trip are,

1) Getting rear ended by Ola/uber guys on 3 consecutive days leading to rear bumper replacement. Covered by insurance.

2) Annual Service

3) Broken Knob of the side mirror control unit.

The replacement of the rear bumper along with the repainting came to around 7K without taxes.

Annual service came to around 14 k , which I reduced to 11k by not opting for unnecessary things like adding the "magic liquid" to the fuel tank etc.

Somehow 2 weeks back, when I was trying to open the electrically open/close mirrors, the rotating knob just broke. Im almost a Parsi when it comes to using cars or electronics, so that leaves my better half as the culprit, but understanding that it involves me treading in mortally dangerous areas, had to ignore it.

VW quoted me 4500 Rs for the replacement ( without taxes) not sure about the labour. Too much if you ask me, as with just taxes, it comes to around 5500/- with or without labour.

Approached someone who used to deal in VW spares and he said he will get the part for around 750/- Perfect!!! so that just leaves the installation part which the Uncle said he will himself do.

Knowing him and knowing me. I decided to do a DIY. As of now the part is installed and working perfectly. Although I suspect its an used part from the look and feel of it. For 750 rs though, no harm done. All it took was me ordering the trim tools for interior panel removal.

All it took was 10 minutes. Images attached below

Please don't hesitate to ask questions. It was tough for me to do this DIY especially because no where on the internet/youtube could I find videos for this specific model MK V.

The tool used is the piece on the extreme right in the first image. This is specifically used as its asked by VW, link below.

https://workshop-manuals.com/volkswa...-door_models)/

Also the only different thing I did was use the side part for tool entry ( as seen in the image) as opposed to entry from bottom as showed in the manual. In the refixing aspect, the manual is explicit that the top part has to be fixed first and then the panel below has to be pushed in place to avoid breaking of any clips.

Wow! GT TSI looks elegant in white! And the Black spoiler looks fab! Get a set of Matt-black alloys and you will have a drool-worthy ride!
