I have done 15000 kms in my swift Ldi. Maximum I have reached is 160 km/h, did not try to go beyond it. 182 km/h in swift scares me.

Driving at 182 knph in Indian roads is totally insane. Even in US with very good freeways, the max speed allowed is around 80 mph.

Though modern cars have good power and can reach very high speeds when pushed, we should drive responsibly keeping in mind the safety of the passengers and pedestrians on the raod.

It is quite dangerous to you, your co-passengers and the other people on the road. Indian roads are full of surprises as some one else said in some other forum. Drive safe dude.

Driving at high speeds >100 kmph is not only unsafe but puts undue stress on most of the car components - Engine, transmission, suspension, Tyres, brakes. These components wear out faster than usual and the FE will drop significantly. Please keep this in mind before racing away your car beyond 100 kmph.

In terms of what a Japanese or European car should be able to take, 100kmph is nothing, not even a motorway cruising speed. In fact 62 MPH is easily attainable on a good 'A' road in UK (limit, if not dual carriageway, 60). Wouldn't worry about the car at all.

Of course, the roads is a different matter. It might be the Swift, it might be the roads, but it surprises me that 60Kmph actually feels quite fast here!

What you say about fuel consumption (sorry, you guys call it fuel efficiency, but I still find it hard to get to grips with that) is correct, though. Higher speeds really drink up the stuff.

On good roads there shouldn't be much of a worry. If you have potholed roads or roads with sudden speed breakers (Which you usually find in India) that require sudden braking you will put in undue stress on to your car components. The oredr of stress varies with the components tyres/brakes take a huge beating, then suspensions, finally transmission and engine.

I can't argue with your policy to treat a car gently :)

My SWIFT LDi has run 2500 km and apart from minor scratches there is no problem with it. However, recently I found out that if I apply apply brakes suddenly there is a noise. It's like a low grunt. Is it anything to be really worried about?

There is a potential problem with the disc brakes.

I hadn't noticed, but mine had been almost worn away in just a couple of thousand km. I forget now if it was just the pads that were replaced, but it was done under warranty, and as disk pads are deffinately a consumable, they wouldn't have done that if it had not been a recognised issue.

Sorry... I never managed to get to grips with what the issue was.

Discs/Drums are wet. Wait for a few days and if it does not go away, and you are still bothered with the noise, remove the wheels and get the discs cleaned. usually the front discs are the culprit, never had the problems with rear drums.

Bull..how did you check the FE?? The only correct method is the tankful to tankful method..

I agree.. I just tested full tank to full tank on my ldi (done first service/clocked 1500 KM) and it returned 15 KM in city driving very slowly and not pushing the car more than 65 on open roads (IRR) without AC.

21 sounds unbeliveable. Can you let us know if you tested full tank to full tank? my car returned 23 KM and the guy had to fill in 1.5lts to get the tank full again.

@ Vishnu - now that you have done 20k it would be nice to know what your FE has been on an average?

Also how much has the increase been in the engine sound and vibrations in the car overall...
