Re: Driven: Jaguar XE Facelift

I'm certain that those power figures could be bumped up to more respectable numbers. Otherwise, the V6 running under the hood of many a German gentleman (including mine) puts out 290hp and 420 Nm, sans the turbo lag, which translates to very decent launches and 0 to 100 clicks. Come Sport mode, the numbers are still 6-7kmpl.
The next game would only be in motors putting out 500+ horses. I better get there before the breed of IC engines go extinct.

Re: Driven: Jaguar XE Facelift

This review is totally pointless!

Why?

Jaguar no longer sells the XE and XF in India. Only the F-Pace and iPace are available.

Anyway, I have been looking at an upgrade so I came across this XE Portfolio 2.5t retailed by Shakti Jaguar as a certified car for Rs 32L. A bit high but lets see what comes along with it.

Driven: Jaguar XE Facelift-img_2212.jpeg

Called on Friday and got a call back in 10min followed by pics.

Me: "Ingenium engine?"

He: Yes sir (normally they are PXXX)

Okay, will pop over tomorrow at 11

I trek over to Whitefield. Car had light swirl marks, lifted engine cover which had some muck. Brake discs were scored and pads were nearing the end. Tyres were horrible Goodyears.

For a used car, okay, for a "certified" car, hmmmm.

Me: "What will I get for the certified car"

He:" Simply certified that it has been serviced and checked by Jaguar, car will be serviced (basic)" - before handing over!

Me: "Warranty"

He: "Two lakhs extra for two years"

Me - "So no warranty or comeback if something is wrong"

He:- "No sir!"

Now, the overall outlay would be Rs 34L (32L asking + 2L to bring it up to scratch)

Someone had viewed the car while I was there and was returning back in the afternoon for a test drive. I asked for a test drive and waited till they moved it out. On start up, it was a little tappety.

Vid6339 arrived. While moving it out, I noticed stuff dangling from below. Vid and I looked underneath. Some of the underfloor insulation (rats or abrasion!) was dangling and the aluminium exhaust shield was crumpled and dangling. Oh, the engine had FoMoCo stamped all over it. Not an Ingenium and we looked at an FPace engine bay to confirm this.

Started her up, the idling was rough from inside. This was fixable. We set off, once warmed up, engine had decent power but the gearbox was handling the power as if it was between the State and Central government, it just was not coming together. The driving position was comfy but instruments were a little old fashioned (I could live with that).

The ride was firm but absorbent and handling was okay, steering was well weighted but it did not really feel that great compared to the XF. Brakes were spongy and rear wheel TPMS was on. We opened the sunroof, it worked but the shade was stuck. We found a lot of muck in there.

Jaguar Approved? Don't bother - There is nothing special or premium to command if you cannot detail the car properly and take care of the basic mechanicals to a certified standard. Remember that promised free service- the previous owner had paid for it as part of a pre-existing service plan so this was not really part of the "Approved" programme. All these things could have been completed and make the car more attractive and more reassuring.

Reviewed the service history - The rear tyre had been vulcanised but still the alert was showing. The sunroof shade had been stuck since last year due to the muck.

Bottom line - This XE did not really have soul. The 30L retracted deeper in my pocket. A price in the early 20L might be worth a punt. It neither stood out either as a cruiser or a bruiser. After this, I jumped into my trusty old Jetta and realised the 25L+ delta was not justified.

20 min later, I drove a well set up BMW 328i - everything comes together in that car.

Jaguars reinvention will be much needed. I felt disappointed for the brand!

The whole point of my review was to paint the XE in a favourable light for a used car bargain. Nothing to do with them not selling it new anymore. That being said you are definitely entitled to your own opinion and I have already admitted that the 330i is superior in every possible way. Its just that the XE pulls on my heartstrings over everything, and its more of a personal story over a professional review .

That being said, Jaguar approved is an absolute shitshow and you were right to stay clear of that car with a 10 foot pole.

Hey Parth, What Ajmat meant was that his review which he wrote after that line is pointless since the XE and XF are both not on sale anymore.

Re: Driven: Jaguar XE Facelift

Updating the thread with irl mileage figures.
I recently did a 850km Kapurthala-Gurgayon and back.
The screenshot manages to capture the return trip to dot 400kms.
Tbh; I am fairly impressed at getting around 12.5kmpl specially with all those 247 horses at your command ruling the highways

Re: Driven: Jaguar XE Facelift

Hello Team,
I am in the used market for a sub 25 lakh sedan (diesel), I was looking at 3ers until I caught 2 XE’s which got my attention, both driven under 15k, one is portolio and one is prestige and both immaculately maintained with extended warranty with reasonable prices. My question is, as I am unaware of JLR’s variants positioning can someone tell me the difference between the both variants and what to look out for in these particular cars for narrowing down on them. I will be checking them out later this weekend so any advice is appreciated
