Re: My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review

What is the tyre make/brand in XL6?
I have had good experience with Bridgestone and poor experience with Hankook, JK and Goodyear. The S-cross comes with JK that I would consider changing if given a good price

Stock tyres are Bridgestone Ecopias, Average at best. In contrast the JK Elanzos we have on S Cross, are very decent tyres. Sure they aren't as supple as Michelin, Continental etc, but are surely better than Ecopias IMO. They are holding up fine till now.

Shashi

PS: Read about your delivery happening soon, Congratulations.

Thanks. Your post about the low-end grunt of the 1.5 P engine tilted the decision in S-cross favour. Now that you have said that the JK Elanzos are better, won't change them.

I drove the Bridgestone Ecopia in Ritz for 4.5 years and there was never a puncture. That is why I regard them highly

Re: My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review

Minor update: Bought 3D dicky mat today. I would have opted simple PVC mats but they weren't available for XL6. Ertiga gets one but it has Ertiga embossed on the mat. I was apprehensive of 3D mat and kept delaying it for so long as fit was not so good in our S Cross. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the fit in XL6. Also eliminates the boot floor jumping sound to some extent.

Part Number: 990J0M72RA3-020
Price: Rs. 1,090

Some pics of the mat:

Re: My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review

Update: Footwell lamp added! The XL6 is as well equipped as a cave, specially when compared to Brezza or Baleno. One of the many things I missed in this car was a warm welcome the footwell lamp provides. At the same time, I wasn't ready for those insanely bright setups by LED strips, needed something more "OEM" looking. Well, in MGA, there are some options. Celerio got footwell lamp option as MGA in Orange color, while old WagonR got it in dark blue. Opted for more subtle Celerio's setup.

Part Number for Celerio's MGA lamp, this one glows Orange/Reddish:

2 Lamps with couplers:

Wiring has a provision for fuse also:

The open leads, you need to tap these to Cabin light wires using scotch locks

Instructions manual:

Box contents:

Some advice from my end if anyone tries this:

1. I tapped connection from left A Pillar. Manual recommends tapping from sill area, but since the wire may become short(notice it was designed for Celerio), I tapped from another location. Hardly matters.

2. Do tape/Zip tie everything firmly else things like scotch lock, fuse holder may rattle. I used OEM wiring harness tapes MSIL uses(36930M70F10 and 77591M75000)

3. There is enough space available to nearly hide the lamp underneath.

4. Make sure you use Adhesion promoting primer on plastic surfaces before sticking the double sided tape.

Great addition to your XL6. I'm surprised that S Cross has footwell illumination in stock condition but XL6 doesn't ! Anyway it is not a big ask and can be added as you've done through DIY route. It's intriguing how MS give features to their cars. Nexa has nothing premium to it.

The only shortcomings if you ask me are Dashboard rattles(fixed) and headlamps which can make you nervous(easily fixable with Projector Fogs). Regarding lights, it appears useless mostly because it has no focused beams as such. The light is diffused, but you won't ever miss anything on road-That's for sure. This is typical of non projector LEDs. If you are used to projector lamps, you will be disappointed.

Apparently, I was there when my car was being unloaded and drove it home as it is (with the factory marks) with 6km on ODO.

Update on my booking: SA got the VIN from plant today.
I had to ask him to bill it even before it reaches dealer to avoid any price rise from 1st April.
If price changes for me, it will take another 15-20 days as lease process starts from scratch :-(
So, no option but to take this risk

Re: My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review

Quick update: Completed 10k on the odo, nearly 8.5 months after the purchase. Honestly, I hadn't expected more than 10k kms annually, but the XL6 is seeing much more running than anticipated.

Third service and a brief log about experience in last 10k kms should be coming soon.

Update : the car was billed yesterday as per the march prices. Sales advisor was at RTO for almost half a day and got the registration done yesterday itself with permanent number.
Today morning we took the delivery. Accessories purchased / installed from showroom are rear view camera, door visors, carpet mats and window lower chrome(installed by their error- not charged to me). Beside this i took extended warranty of total 5 years or 1Lakh kms.
Just now TPMS ordered from amazon also arrived, will get it installed in next days.

Dear LeoShashi, it looks great and is certainly a good feature addition. May I ask why didn’t you consider the OEM footwell lights of S-Cross especially given that XL6 has LEDs at most places?

They aren’t as bright as a strip of LEDs but look quite cool at night.

I know, S Cross gets whitish lights which look great. However I preferred these for many reasons:

1. S Cross ones aren't exactly plug and play. Unit is different and I would need to fabricate its harness too. These Celerio ones come with everything needed for installation.

2. For interiors, I prefer the illumination by good old Halogen bulbs. They are much more soothing. These went with the theme.

Shashi
