Outside NCR, one can run a vehicle as long as one wants. A car is initially registered for a period of 15 years, then one has to renew the registration every 5 years. The tax amount during renewal of registration differs from state to state, some states like Maharashtra take a green tax, whereas some states only take a renewal fee.

In Assam (& in many other states), one has to only pay renewal fee during registration renewal. Here it costs a shade over 1k for the whole process (including printing of the new RC).

Do they charge additional taxes, as the engine is definitely not BS6 compliant?
Nothing like that, even for PUC test any car has to comply with the norms that the car originally complied to. For example, a BS II car only has to have pollution levels under the limit set for BS II vehicles, to pass the PUC test.

Re: Fun2Drive 1989 Maruti Omni : Ownership Review

Such an amazing story. The Omni was the most trouble free car owned by my father during my childhood years. We had a white one from 1996 to 2001 and drove it across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala during the 5 years we had it. I still remember being upset with my dad that he booked this instead of the 800. But as the primary back seat occupant of the time, I became happy soon after we got it for obvious reasons!

Thank you for refreshing my Omni memories.

Re: Fun2Drive 1989 Maruti Omni : Ownership Review

As the tradition goes, every year we friends visit the Mango farm in Banganapalli, camp overnight and come back our cars loaded with Mangoes. These are one of the yummiest mangoes I ever had, and I bet you would say the same, when you taste one. However, it wasn’t the case this time. We couldn’t visit the Mango Farm due to Lockdown in the State and Mangoes were delivered by a Transport Bolero Vehicle to Bangalore at Karthik’s Residence.

Question is how to deliver the Mangoes to rest of the friend’s safely who all were waiting eagerly. That’s where the Omni came to rescue.

All the unloaded Mangoes from Bolero were quickly loaded to Omni and ready to be delivered. We had a deadline to meet and be back before the Entire City could shut down by 10:00 AM. This was the first time Omni was driven like any other Modern car in the city traffic with Yummy Mangoes loaded. It was a smooth sail. We managed to Deliver all the Mangoes in record breaking time without any hiccup. Neither Karthik nor I felt that we were driving a 31-year van, until we encountered a twin brother of our own Bayer Blue rusting in peace.

From the Memory Lane: Dad [center] with his company provided Omni. It's the same van in which I took my driving lessons as well.

Re: Fun2Drive 1989 Maruti Omni : Ownership Review

Myself, Arun1100, and Greenday wanted a bit of outing. We couldn't come to a consensus on whether to ride or drive. For us ALL to be happy, we decided to take our ride in our drive. More pics later.

Spotted a pretty original Omni of same registration series of CAZ, surely would be 1989, more towards end as 1990 started with KA series.

Re: Fun2Drive 1989 Maruti Omni : Ownership Review

Going through this thread and all its images brought back a lot of fond memories from my childhood.

That registration number "CAZ 3100" reminded me of a red Omni in our neighborhood when I was a kid. This one had the registration number "CAR 1", which I thought was the coolest number plate ever
