The MK5 Supra is a great car in its own right and we should be happy that it exists and there are people ready to put their money where their mouth is.
MK4 now sells more than the price it was launched at. Talk about the fan following.

People who crib are the ones who can't afford to buy one.
Just to make the grapes more sour, The MK5 borrows parts from the M series as well.

Cheers,

Re: My 2022 Toyota Supra 3.0 GR MK5

Hey Amey,

I just bumped into this thread and nice to know that you are the first Supra owner on the forum. Supras are great track and drag strip tools. Hope you are planning to use it on those tarmacs to make use of the full potential.

Btw, what you are driving is not a Toyota but, a BMW.

That reminds me, welcome to the beautiful world of B58. I hope you have fallen utterly and hopelessly in love with it as I have. I personally feel everything special about the car is majorly this particular engine.

I have driven many BMW’s but, not all are special. Some of the 3 and 5 gas engines feel lackluster after driving the B58. Only the M division engines can probably surpass the pleasurable experience of a B58.

This engine application in a compact sedan must be an explosive feeling. Please do post an exhaust rev note video to see how it sounds in this car.

Here is mine as a comparison :

Btw, what is the legal speed limit in Dubai and how much more on top of that is allowed?

P.S : Will be in Dubai end of November or December. Would love to check out this beauty in person.

Have a nice and safe ownership experience !!

Thank you Mobike008 for the warm wishes. Yes, I know it's a BMW with Toyota clothing which I actually admire.

The B58 is special and a major milestone in the history of BMW. As I understand, the gearing ratios are different though on the Supra compared to the BMW Clan which makes it more lethal.

The legal speeds on the Ring Roads are 120 Kmph. Inter-city 140 / 160 Kmph here in Dubai.
Let me know once you're here. It'll be great to catch-up.

Here's the video of the first cold start during delivery -

Absolutely a wonderful milestone for BMW. The B58 is one of the most talked about and revered engine for many of its characteristics like speed, smoothness, sound and high revving to the redline without breaking a sweat.

Since now you own this special engine. I think it won't hurt to read up a bit about it to get more familiar with it. One of my favorite article on this engine.

Check. it out :

https://www.bmwblog.com/2021/12/20/b58-best-bmw-engine/

There is absolutely no change in the Supra MK5 and Supra feels much faster and more lethal is because of its 200kgs lesser weight which is significant.

Woah! Then you have some pleasure times ahead.

Sounds little subdued. Hope you have the mandatory pops and crackles of the B58?

Is yours the Europe specs? Euro specs have a mandatory EU law to come with GPF (Gas Particulate Filter) which significantly lowers the pops and crackles. But, there are simple mods to get back to original state.

Cheers and Enjoy !!

I've read this article and absolutely love it too. There's one on the S55 and S58 (successor of S55) as well which the latest M line-ups get.

Here's the link -

https://www.bmwblog.com/2019/02/12/s...ngine-the-s58/

No doubt the Supra weighs less however, it sees a shorter gearing ratio compared to M240i and M340i and a wider axel 315 instead of the BMWs 281 for that extra punch.

We here get the GCC Specs which is not the EU Spec. It's a EURO 4 car and gets all pops and bangs as desired. She's now starting to open up as I run her in.

Cheers,
Amey

Re: My 2022 Toyota Supra 3.0 GR MK5

So, we’re here after 5 months of ownership for the first service of the Supra which is due every 6 months or 10K kms. This one came in because of the tenure. The odo at the moment is around 3,000 Kms as I’m only using her on the weekends.

I have a service package on the Supra for three years which covers six services.

Post the track day in November 2022, I really wanted to get the car pumped with fresh blood and here it was. The first service covers the usual : Engine oil change, oil filter replacement, Air filter cleaning, all basic check-ups, brake pads cleaning etc.

The overall process right from the appointment until the delivery of the car was smooth as butter. No hiccups. I like to wait, get the car serviced and take her back the same day. I was glad Toyota Service Advisor was kind enough to offer this and also generously accepted another request of mine to witness the engine oil change in the workshop.

The Supra after the service has become much eager, the exhaust note has slightly improved as well.

All in all, the Saturday was a day spent well!

Here are some pics of that day :

This level of spick and span waiting bay and servicing bay is wet dream of us auto enthusiasts. Imagine the level of world class service we are being dished out here. There is always scope for improvement.

Would like to know, is it a brand new Service centre setup or an existing one? If an existing one, then is this normal upkeep across all Toyota service centres in Dubai?

Hahaha. Good observation that! Although this is a new ASC which looks spick and span, you’ll come across most of the ASCs who’re like this eg : I visited VW as well few months back for the Golf GTI Annual service and the bay was very similar.

Cheers

Re: My 2022 Toyota Supra 3.0 GR MK5

Congrats on the car Amey, I missed this thread earlier. Look forward to a drive together when I'm in town!

Really surprised Toyota (BMW?) is using 0W-20 in GCC conditions. I would have thought a 0W-40 or even 5W-40 would be more useful given the summers.

Thanks for the wishes v1p3r. Let’s catch up once you’re in town.

Regarding the oil specs, I was also a bit surprised but what I think they’ve done for GCC is that the service interval is 6 months compared to 1 year in other markets which should be okay as well.

Cheers

Your signature says the Supra has been sold.
Was quite a short lived ownership period.

A closure report, including reasons for sale would be quite appreciated.

Quoting your post from another thread makes me believe its not being missed much either.

Yes, rightly observed. Supra was sold to make way for another german (Audi Q5 Quattro) for wifey alongside the Porsche. I had no more parking provisions and is an unnecessary expensive affair in Dubai.

Moreover, a dear friend only bought the Supra, so she’s around. She was spiritedly driven including track days for almost the entire time except of course the running in period. I had my fair share of time with her. But yeah, I’d say the eyeopener was after the track day where if I compare between a Superbike and a Supercar, I had immense fun on the Ducati over the Supra. Barely any driver inputs and engagement was a big turn off whereas on a sports bike, you’re holding to your life and other unmentionable things.
