Hello Peeps,

Finally the wait is over and she has arrived on an auspicious eve of Ganesh Chaturthi.

If I'm not wrong, I may be the first person to post a delivery experience of the Supra on the forum which'll ultimately convert into an ownership review. Cherry on the Cake!

Booking Experience : I had booked the Supra on 25th June' 2022 and waiting period communicated by the Sales team conservatively was 3-6 months due to the unsure dynamics of the market currently however, I'm glad she made it here in just two months.

GCC Spec of the Supra is only available in one trim which is the fully loaded "Premium variant" which I absolutely loved as there was no confusion between which variant to choose from. Simply take it or leave it!

The booking experience in Dubai has been professional overall whether it was my Golf GTI at first or the Supra now. However, there were some observations as appended -

1. No Display car
2. No Test Drive car
3. The Sales Executive attitude was average. Wasn't even offered a coffee inspite of booking the car on my first visit. Well that's this region anyways, migrated people are pretty cold. Luckily, there was one white Supra being delivered and I could get a feel of what I was going to book / buy. The pictures can simply not depict what you get to see in person. She has personifying curves and the overall aura is mind boggling.

The Wait : Golf GTI was in stock and thus the overall experience was smooth without a fuss. However, it was surprising when it came to the Supra. After paying a small token for booking (INR 40K approx), I was kept informed on the status of the car every week. This was a delight to see. With this proactive approach, I can even forget the coffee I deserved during the booking. The struggle if I may even call it, was getting the car from the port to the showroom. The showroom folks were struggling to commit a delivery date due to the long queuing at PDI; which I wasn't allowed to witness. We "Indians" like things to be planned especially when it comes to precious purchases and here its quite chilled out in that respect.

Delivery Day : All said and done, when the car arrived in the hands of the showroom folks that's when the things started rolling. The car was delivered in a day on my request with a few things to be sorted prior to the delivery such as : Loading GCC Maps on Navigation, 3M tints, Car registration and installing Sports plates on the car.

All in All, when I saw the beauty in flesh I had laser eyes. lol: It made me feel forget everything that I might've felt impatient about. My family shared the same feeling as well. Reiterating my earlier statement, the photos do not depict how gorgeous she looks in person. Toyota have definitely outsmarted BMW on this quotient and the Z4 M40i on which the Supra is based on which is sold almost twice the cost.

Initial Impressions and Running In : I simply love this courtship period with the car when she itches you to cross your line but you don't. ;) This is the time when I really feel we get to learn and mould the car to our likings. My family and I set out post dinner for coffee runs to run in the car and understand the features of the car. This was done with the Golf GTI and same implies for the Supra too.

With that said, we got the beauty home and the necessary rituals were done. My wife and I couldn't resist sitting at home with the new beauty parked in the garage and we headed straight to the gas station and to collect Salik (toll sticker). The first drive felt odd to be honest. I was driving her like a noob. A low GC car with small windows, all curves around and the broad stance felt intimidating at start and that's where I knew I need to give her driving hours to sync in the feeling.

Generally, before I take the steering into my hands, I also like to run through the manual to give a quick check on running-in guidance and customize certain settings to my needs and comfort.

In Supra's case I noticed certain settings which required personalization e.g. -
  1. The infotainment is iDrive from the BMW again which looks nice and the UI is user friendly.
  2. Connecting my iphone 13 Pro Max for wireless carplay was a breeze just through bluetooth pairing.
  3. Profile name and ensuring all settings are saved to this profile
  4. Disabling the lane change correction setting
  5. Adjusting the seat, ORVMs and setting to the memory function 1
  6. Audio system equalizer
  7. Parking assist settings
  8. Heads-up Display height
  9. Setting shortcuts for the band nos viz - Sports mode customization, TPMS, Equalizer etc.

The manual states running-in below 4,500K RPM and limiting the speed to 160 KMPH until initial 2,000 Kms. However, while driving I noticed that the car is mental. Even 4,500 RPM is quite high for the initial Kms. I'm conservatively driving her below 3,000 just to be soft initially and gradually will increase the load.

It's been around 500Kms now and I've started getting the hang of the dimensions of the car, feeling much more comfortable inside the cabin wherein initially it felt very claustrophobic with small windows, blind-spots, low ground clearance overall handling etc.

With these initial impressions and thoughts, I will leave you folks here and see you in the next chapter of the Supra's ownership review.

Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Reviews section. Thanks for sharing!

Going to our homepage today :thumbs up

Amazingly put together initial impressions review.
Hearty congratulations brother!

Reading through your post felt like witnessing the experience of ownership of such a legendary car.

Even though, on a side note, I did bug you to video call me while taking the delivery of this beauty :coldsweat

Like we were discussing the other day, Toyota have outsmarted BMW with this car..to add to that this car gets a spare wheel too rl:

Wish you many Happy miles and blissful rides. Keep us posted for more goss.

Cheers.

Very well written, accompanied by splendid photography! Congratulations on your fantastic acquisition. White exteriors suit the red interiors really well! Wishing you many pleasurable miles in the future, all with the aural company of the B58 motor paired with the ZF8.

People hate on this car saying that it's German/not a true Toyota, but to me, this is the perfect balance. The service experience of a Toyota with touches like a full-size spare backed by BMW's tech and fun-to-drive factor is my ideal combination. :D

I'll be looking forward to future updates!

What a fantastic car. Looks beastly in white and that red interior is just WOW.

I just wonder when can we get such cars in India. Cars here are horrendously overpriced and infra anyways s**ks to say the least. While I am looking to get into the big 3 germen territory my main criteria is the GC. Sad state of affairs here in India.

Many congratulations!! Nice to see such an awesome car in a BHPian’s garage. This the one of those rare cars that look great from all angles. Wishing you lacs of happy ownership kilometers.

Is that a Supraaaaaa?
LOL, forgive me, I always feel the urge to say this when I see a Supra!rl:
Supra is truly a legendary car, it is great to know that a fellow BHPian has a Supra along with the legendary Golf GTI in his garage!:loveit
One thing is making me curious, why is that front numberplate positioned in such a weird place? Isn't it possible to place it on the bumper?

I've seen SO many car enthusiasts who say the MK5 isn't a worthy successor to the MK4, but personally, I don't see where that comes from. The car seems very fun to drive and the Toyota-BMW blend is great as well.

Certainly, and now it's even available with a manual, so you can get the same old blend of a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine mated to a manual. Definitely one of the best enthusiast cars on sale today.

Great write-up! The car makes it even betterclap: Even though it's a BMW underneath, its sold for a lower price than the BMW. IT LOOKS AWESOME.

Thanks Monaro CV8, GForceEnjoyer, BHPjunkie, PaddleShifter, TechnoBloop, Samurai_RX8, atif_46 for your warm wishes.

@Monaro CV8 : Trust me, I called you even before I witnessed the car thoroughly. :D Ohh yes, Toyota has smartly outplayed the BMW product with better specs overall and a better handler to be true to its name.

Good thing about GCC is you'll generally find good spec'ed cars and on the Supra I had no choice but Red Interiors was my preference anyways.

You'll always have haters and envious people. Ignorance is bliss.

I'd think about the infrastructure first and then cars. Even if you had cars, the road conditions would just tear these cars and pockets apart.

When you know people turn heads to see your car in the UAE , you know you're driving something special.

Its such a big name Supraaaaa. Huge legacy and name to it. Blessed to own one. Regarding the no plate. This is how the stock plate looks which I kind of didn't like and thus chose the sports plate which is positioned odd but looks cool.

Well, for me the MK5 is a perfectly designed New Gen Supra and I'm glad it is made by BMW which is why we allure the interiors which complements the exterior styling which might've not been the case if Toyota would've manufactured it. Moreover, the popularity in the US market speaks alot about the Supra MK5.

Wow, congratulations on the Supra. It has been a dream car since NFS Most Wanted and then watching it in action in the original Fast and Furious movie (the orange modded Supra). You Sir are living the dream of many auto enthusiasts :) Enjoy your new ride.

Some times people tend to over romanticize the past and undervalue the present. The OG Supra didn't sell well. That's just the reality. By the time people realize the true greatness of something, it is already history.

The MK5 Supra is a great car in its own right and we should be happy that it exists and there are people ready to put their money where their mouth is.

I have not driven the Supra but have driven along with it and it looked mighty impressive. Dare I say, it's a BMW wrapped in Toyota's skin and that's not a bad thing at all. :)
