This petrolhead owns a McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini & more. But he still starts the video with his Thar Convertible, and references it in the video as the car he loves to drive in India (something to that effect).

The Thar is really something else. My favourite line is "I didn't spend 20-lakhs on the Thar...I saved 80-lakhs over buying something else as much fun".

Re: My Modified Mahindra Thar 4x4 Review | Red Turbo-Petrol AT Convertible

Sorry to hijack the thread like this but got the delivery of my Thar CT D AT yesterday and over the moon with the feeling of owning a Convertible. Took the delivery with the top open and it was just amazing. Last week has been roller coaster with the stars aligning the right way and me getting a Thar of my spec choice with Convertible at an attractive price point. Have a big road trip planned in December to Rajasthan and Uttrakhand and will be looking to use the Convertible in this winter season

Will surely change the grill to the Wrangler style and will take other modifications slowly for now. Also, planning to paint the alloys in matte black and the same matte black for the badging on the side. At the dealer end I got following:

1. Rear Arm rest
2. Mud flaps
3. Steering wheel cover
4. Rear camera
5. Steel scuff plates

The delivery experience was good. The sales advisor gave enough support to make it possible to get the delivery in two days of payment.

The picture was taken at the time of delivery.

Re: My Modified Mahindra Thar 4x4 Review | Red Turbo-Petrol AT Convertible

The weather in Bombay just turned fantastic; that can only mean one thing = take the top off

Took India's ultimate funmobile out for a drive around town & dinner yesterday. Cruising in the open-top with the wind hitting your hair & face, good music, the beautiful coastal road and that enjoyable turbo-petrol made it a memorable drive.

Sharing some random pictures from last evening.

In other news, my 3rd service date is coming up soon. Which reminded me, the Thar hasn't visited the workshop since January 2024! It's been completely niggle-free for 1 year, working every day without a single complaint, and providing unmatched smiles-per-miles. This year has been good, unlike the initial 2 years where I faced 5-6 niggles with the Thar:

Annual Service Update

Well, there is nothing to update . There has not been a single niggle in the Thar all year. The car went in for its annual service this morning with an empty to-do list, and is already on the way back home. Work done = engine oil & filter change, fuel filter change, HVAC filter change and some small items. Total bill came up to just 4,400 bucks.

Love the relatively cheap pricing of Mahindra parts. Fuel filter is ~400 bucks, oil filter the same, HVAC filter is merely 280 bucks.

Downtime in the last 12 months = the 8 hours of today. That's it. In comparison, my other car (530d) has had 20'ish days of downtime in 2024. The Thar is proving to be a true workhorse. As a treat, she is taking us to the Aer Lounge today, and we are sending her for a detailing session to Selvin @ XSEL MotorWorX next week. 2024 has been very smooth; however, in 2023, we faced some 5-6 niggles with the car (all reported earlier on this thread).

One odd job that is pending is the torn driver's seat upholstery. One of my denim's rear labels somehow got stuck while exiting the car and it ripped a small part of the upholstery apart. Will call a guy to repair it later in January. As is the principle of car ownership, I get all things - big and small - fixed in the annual service, so the car keeps looking & feeling like new.

Latest pictures are in the post above .

Is this the same Selvin who used to be part of Mahindra Offroad Academy?

Re: My Modified Mahindra Thar 4x4 Review | Red Turbo-Petrol AT Convertible

A little aside. I have two original Thars. My 2018 has 64,000 on it without a hiccup. Not one problem.

My 2013 has 175,000 on it. Here's the stats on that one.

Two clutches (first one the mech screwed up)
Two alternator rebuilds
Two starter rebuilds
One water pump
A couple of leaky hoses here and there
One brake hydraulic pump (pain in the...exhaust pipe)
One emu (Luckily I know a good electric guy who found and fixed that)
The rest, normal stuff like brake pads etc.

That's it. The engine still runs fine and burns no oil. None. I do change
oil every 12,000 and on this 2013 I use petroleum oil (My 2018 gets synthetic)

Mahindra's service is definitely "hit and miss". But if you are never in their accursed service shops.....dealing with their Neanderthal service people just ain't a biggy.
The above repairs are pretty good for the hard usage these Thars get. And, still get.

The main point I am trying to make? I am probably going to buy another Mahindra come 2026. Thar or Roxx dunno yet. They have won me over, much to my amazement.

Mine too! I thought you were old school. The Roxx would probably be the better choice. 4x4 diesel.
