On thursday morning a friend asks me to comeover with him to testdrive swift diesel as he is fed up of high running and maintainance costs of his ford ikon so he was confused on 'which diesel'?i recommended him everything from swift to verna to scorpio,it rained very heavily on thursday all the roads were water logged we drove to pasco automobiles in a verna CRDi and asked for the testdrive of swift, the salesman mentions the 2-3month waiting still we agreed for a testdrive.
The testdrive car was a skyblue car with dream diesel stickers all over,as we sit in the car we observe the worn interiors and doors which shut with rattle, this car has run for just 3800kms.i felt shoes wet ,oops it was water filled in the car we ignored it as the salesman tells us that the car was parked on a water logged road.On the testdrive we passed a water logged road and more water entered the car though it was not very deep,we crossed the same road in the verna before not a single drop entered the car.
Other major thing i observed was the car was rattling like a taxi indica and the engine was very noisy compared to my previous testdrives.it was a major turnoff my friend now says he will anything but not a swift or any other maruti car.
MODS : Pls move the thread if posted inappropriate.
Sounds like a heavily used TD vehicle.
Ask your friend to try TDing another Swift D from the same or a different dealership.
I've not noticed any out of the ordinary complaints about rain water entering Swifts on the forum, so it might be a one-off anomaly.
Don't ask your friend to discount Swifts on the basis of this single TD vehicle.
Although, if he's looking for an upgrade from the Ikon, he might prefer the josh of the 3-box Verna CRDI over the 2-box Swift.
he he thats one poorly maintained test drive car, no water leaks so far for me :D
Incidentally, my dad's friend has been having water seepage issues with her Swift too (end-06 VXI). Seems she had it inspected and corrected (don't know what they did) a few months back and the problem has resurfaced now. The car's back in the service center now. Could be an issue with some (small number) of the Swifts.
Water logging into Swift I have noticed as well. The reasons:
Swift beedings are loose and when we open the door I saw sometimes beeding hanging and onetime I offerd garland MUL managers :Cheering: .
Swift (read it as MUL cars) has bad noice levels, even with Ac on compared with other cars cabin is very noisey.
I found people buy MUL cars for less cost compared with other cars, Wide spread network, Largest selling name, good A.S.S. assumption, good resale value, easy to drive but they forget about quality/refinement.
Regards,
Ravi.
somebody has had very bad experience with MUL lol:
IMHO MUL is not that bad either, yup it has its own flaws but whatever said and done and whatever be the psyche, it sells at the end of the day, so something should be RIGHT with the cars :)
@Jaggu, agree:. MUL is the leader by far and not without reason. Obviously the fact that a few Swifts have water seepage problems doesn't mean that MUL has substantial quality issues... My sis has a Swift too and she's had no probs with it at all..
However, there are a small percentage of customers who do get cars with issues, and that points to some issues with standardization in terms of parts quality / assembly.
i read a comparison test between swift ,palio and getz long time back in Topgear, even they had a similar water seepage issue with only the swift.

A car without quality would lose out on the resale value!
Maruti cars are highly reliable, and only problems that comes reported are rattles and such cases. Thats the reason for the high resale value.
I have a swift and it has not given any water seepage problem so far. I have driven it through water logging till half wheel or more but not a single drop in my car.
Could be in the car what you TD. Check with another dealer.
I do agree MUL cars highly reliable thats why they are leaders in sales. But they don't deserve appreciation and hype people and MUL creating.
Few people like MUL products few not, few people get bad untis few don't notice it, thats it.
About Swift when I noticed loose beeding even with the car on display in RNS motors, executive said its bit old demo CAR around 10 months old. I noticed same loose beeding once my Swift was 7 months old. When checked with others in my circle they also pointed out same issues what I have faced with Swift. Infact few things they noticed and came to know only after I asked them to check out.
I took MUL managers to at least 4 different places in and around bangalore and made them understand issues Swift has for indian roads. They were amazed and told me better I become advisor for Swift road testing ;)
They also assured me they will report the issues I have shown them and offered me extra 2 years extended warranty :) in addition to extended warranty already I had.
Regards,
Ravi.
Anshuman,
Your friend's deduction is incorrect. If anything, isn't it appropriate to make up one's mind on the basis of a single vehicle. Case in Point: Bullets. You get the best and the worst.
Why not TD 3-4 vehicles and then list out issues that are minor and can be managed at a minor cost? 190Nm@2000rpm is indeed quite a juicy engine to pass up :D

Marutis are reliable, which explains why they fare well on resale. Refinement levels arent really 'the best' or among the best.
P.S. : Before you start taking me to the cleaners, let me mention that i admire Marutis for what they are, and would also have been on the car that i own list, if it wasnt for some decisions where the heart rules over the mind. ;)

There are cheaper cars than Marutis in different segments. You are debasing people who buy Marutis. They became largest selling, with good resale value, with good quality/refinement (for the money you pay). Its not the other way around.
I am still in suspended state with one foot in the U.S and other here. I drive Accord, Civic and TSX while I drive a Swift and Citywhen I am here. I think Maruti offers best VFM.
@Ravibhat - What are the specific Swift problems you are speaking of? WHere in Bangalore did you take these managers to?
I have some water seeping issues as well, will mention details on my thread when I update next.
