Brilliant review. I booked my Honda City V-MT (Elegant Edition)-Petrol based on your excellent writing. Thanks for sharing the positives and negatives of the car with updates on service, especially the bit about CMBS would really help me. The only thing that irks me are the tyres. I actually negotiated a sweet deal with a local shop for the same tyres as yours (195/60/R15) but my dealer straight up told me it'd void warranty and asked me to stay with stock and decide after 3 years at least.

1. Did you ask for underbody coating details and how much they cost? Would you recommend doing this earlier to prevent rust?
   
2. How is your experience with the ventilated seat add-on? I'm thinking of buying one for my wife.
   
3. I see a mileage of 18+ km/l in your screenshot. Was it mostly highway rides? Seems really high

It is a must have accessory and costs ~ 2K.

I should have purchased this, instead I purchased this from Zapcart as they advertised boot-tray from GFX for "Honda City 2020 onwards". I was horrified to see it was folded like a piece of paper with permanent folds. The label on the product says "Honda City 2014 Onwards". Now I don't even know if this will be a perfect fit even if I manage to straighten the folds. Also, in the post you linked, picture shows GFX logo while the link says Hi-Art? Is it the same thing?

Thank you for the advice. I’ve observed that after the initial 100-150 kms, the road noise from tires have reduced a lot. On smooth black tarmac, the car is almost dead silent. But yes, an underbody coating will definitely help. I have planned for it after an year or so when the original underbody coat wears off. The black paint will also help hide the rear wheel well!

Congratulations on booking the car! You can not go wrong with a Honda! Somebody once said that one day Mother Earth may feel lazy and may stop spinning, but not a Honda!

Glad that my review helped you to make a decision in a small way. By the way, the tire size on my car is 195/55-R16. Regarding the warranty, yes, they may deny but stuff only related to suspension. They definitely can’t deny you the warranty for anything else which is not connected to tires.

Regarding underbody coat, I am not too keen about it until an year or two. New cars come with some protection from factory which is definitely good for a couple of years at least. I’ve decided to make peace with it for the time being and take a call later.

The ventilated seats are okayish. They do work but more for the lower back and are not as effective in the upper back area. They will change the contours of the original seats and may not be as comfortable but given our summers, it is still a nice addition. You can get a feel of them before signing the cheque for them at the showroom. It also has a massager function built in. I’ve decided to use these seats only in summers and then take them out. For their storage, I’ve retained the packaging boxes in which they came.

And yes, the 18+ FE on MID was a result of a highway drive. I hit a max of 25kmpl during the trip. Yours also being an MT, you can expect 14 kmpl in city and 18-19+ on the highway easily.

Oh yes; The car has only 2 USB ports out of which one is reserved for flash drive/ wired carplay. That leaves you with only 1 USB port for powering any accessory or charging your phone through cable. That was occupied by the dashcam in my car so needed to create more USB ports. So, got this small USB hub from Amazon. I have written about it in the post that you have quoted.

Mud keeps depositing in the wheel well and I'm worried it'll start corroding.

Small update for the car- The yellow halogen license plate lights were an eyesore in the otherwise nice rear lighting set up of the car. Got white T10 LEDs from Amazon cheap and replaced them- DIY. To replace the license plate lights, the easier way is to undo the carpeting behind the plates in the trunk and that gives access to the bulb holders. The only tool required for this change is a simple screwdriver to pull out the plastic cladding pins. The bulb holders can be taken out by squeezing the plastic cutouts at the sides. The T10 bulbs can be taken out just by pulling out from the socket and the replacement LEDs can be pushed in. Just to note, unlike halogens, LEDs have to be fitted with correct polarities for them to work. End result was great and it enhances the overall appeal of the rear lighting set up. Read through this entire post and loved the way saket77 and other friends shared their experience and review of the car. I have booked a V CVT (R) for my wife in the golden brown avatar and expecting delivery next week. While I am also cognizant of the fact that 185 section tires are too thin on a car this size, the side profile is now better than the earlier 55. The factory size being offered is 185/60/R15. (I have a Skoda Yeti so am not going to be behind the wheel of this one, so want to see it from my wife's perspective)

Is this profile ok-ish for 80% city and 20% highway driving? I presume a good upsize is 195/60/R15 with a deviation of 1.99% just marginally under the 2% permissible limit. The other size would be 205/55/R15 with a minimal deviation of 0.58% however 205s are tad too much for the car I feel.

Moreover, I am also wondering about the ODO errors. Consider I am cruising at 100 on the e-way with a speed limit of 100kmph. Due to the upsize, I might be infact doing 110 without realizing it and fall prey to the speed cams. So this would need to be constantly monitored or rather not forgotten failing which would end up a costly affair with over-speeding challans. How do you folks manage this? Is there a way to re-calibrate the ODO to match the new size?

Also, are there any specific points which you think I should look out for in the PDI? Underbody, engine bay, interiors, panel gaps, paint surfaces, etc.

Congratulations on booking the car.
For normal and sedate driving, 185s are just okay. So you can keep them but if you plan to upgrade- do it when the tires are new- less than 100 kms so that you get a good buyback for them. The 195s are enough and I too find the 205s an overkill given the usage pattern; even though on paper it looks a closer match to the factory specs.
Also with 195s, your speedo error will be ~2% only. So, at 100KPH, your actual speed will be ~102KPH- speedo errors put aside. I am not sure of ODO recalibration processes, and if at all it can be done. That 2% is not much of a bother for me anyway.

For PDI, take a friend along just for the sake of more eyes. TBHP checklist is good enough apart from general physical check. https://www.team-bhp.com/advice/pre-...pdi-check-list

Gear Knob Change:

I was looking for changing the gear knob for some time now. The original leather wrapped ball-type knob is good for those who want to keep stuff original in their car but I wanted something more meaty to hold and for better gear shift feel. Also, I have experienced that a bigger knob with a longer neck gives a better leverage while shifting and hence lesser effort is required. In this quest, I was also looking at OE knobs from other manufacturers for replacement as well which would be suitable for the City but somehow didn't get too many options.

Finally found a nice knob on Amazon which was something I was looking for. This leather wrapped one cost me 900/- bucks but is heavy and feels premium. The finish is very good. I would have preferred black stitches on it but that wasn't an option.

This comes with all the hardware required for installation. Fitting isn't exactly straightforward as it is a universal product which can be used with all cars with one of the suitable adapters supplied with it. Also comes with 3 gear position templates which you can choose as per your car.

The OE knob comes out by unscrewing it but first the leather cover needs to be detached by pulling down the silver ring. To fit the new knob, choose a proper fitting rubber bush adapter as per the size of the gear rod thread and then secure the adapter to the knob with the screws and allen key provided with it. Fix the suitable gear orientation template on the knob with the double sided tape provided.

Post installation, the feel of changing gears has changed entirely. The effort required is much lesser and the feel is excellent. The knob feels very good to hold and I am happy with how it looks. The only downside is that the position of reverse gear on the template provided doesn't match the actual position of the gear. But that is okay with me and I am enjoying the better gear shifting experience more than the small disappointment.

In terms of running, the car is closing in 1900 kms and the good thing to report is that there is a marked improvement in the engine manners which has changed especially post clocking 1500 kms on the odo. I think the drivability is getting better as the engine is clocking more kilometers. Definitely drives better than when it was brand new.

Yes, the reverse gear is marked incorrectly in the template provided & unfortunately I will have to live with it. I highlighted the same in my post.
