- The compact size also helps in mountain roads, especially narrow roads. When major roads are blocked during rains / landslides and you have to go through alternate routes, which can at best take 2 cars with some difficulty, this becomes a huge plus point.
I had a conversation with a taxi driver once and asked him what was his favorite car to drive up in the mountains...His straightforward answer at the time was the santro.....It is only all of us urban fools who think that the Thar is the greatest gift to mankind on a mountain road...the weight is a huge disadvantage where there is no road and the car has to be shifted by a team of locals

Its a well documented fact that the unobtrusive little Alto is a veritable mountain goat. One doesn't really need an armoured car like a Thar, bristling and armed to the eyeballs with all sorts of frightfully expensive equipment to reach the mountainous regions.

In fact, even in the humble southern hills like Nilgiris and all, the diminutive little 3 cylinder 800 and Gypsy used to scamper up and down quite rapidly vis a vis the lumbering Ambassadors and Mahindra 540’s.

I keep stating that much of this is occasioned by us urban jungle dwellers to give vent to our wannabe Indiana Jones personas, in order to escape the captivity of our strip lit cubicles.

To get back on topic, I also LOVE the little Ignis. Especially those with the steel wheels. Also the Suzuki Hustler which I saw many of, recently in Japan and earlier in Sri Lanka. It looks like a Jimny but is a lightweight 2WD and high set. Perfect little car for our country.

Remember seeing loads of Tata Nanos scurrying up and down the hills and valleys of Meghalaya with entire families or two stuffed inside when I last went there a decade back. Wondering what is their vehicle of choice these days.. Could well be the Ignis

Absolutely right.Small & light is beautiful one can say.

Earlier this year our group of 5 couples went on a MP tour.

There we all had joyous rides on little Nano on the banks of mighty Narmada near Bhedaghat

One can't imagine how those drivers take 5/6 of us in that tiny open top Nano by making one of us sit on make shift seat at the back of the car. That too on hilly road.

But we thoroughly enjoyed it.Spouses enjoyed more than us

Small cars can be enthusiasts cars as well.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki Ignis: The best a man can get!

Hello,

I would appreciate suggestions from the members.

I'm looking for a second car that will be primarily used within city limits. Our primary car is a Seltos 2023 GTX+ Diesel AT. I wanted to buy an S Presso, but today, we went to Nexa to check for discounts on the Ignis.

A 2023 Ignis Alpha White (my preferred colour) Manual Petrol model is in the showroom. The final price has been quoted at ₹ 7.9lacs, including 3-year extended, full matting, and window shades (I was particular about these accessories). There is no story behind why the car has been in the showroom for so long other than the mandatory stock that the dealer has to lift from MSIL monthly.

I will do a thorough PDI or hire Zekardo to do the PDI, and then I will proceed.

If everything goes well, do you think I should proceed, or is there room for more discount?

Hello. Has the Ignis production stopped? Or any facelift or a generation change expected? Also, please give your insights on how it compares to a Celerio AMT.

I was in a Nexa a couple weeks ago and upon making a casual enquiry, am informed that Ignis continues. There is no news on any discontinuation plan and neither is there any facelift plan as far as they said. Ignis is a nice looking car, well built and offers decent vakue for money and it is a very practical hatch. A nice little front wheel drive. Zippy little thing. Plenty of them in the cities and even up in the hills. I ve seen a lot of them buzzing around in the Nilgiris for example.
I would rate it higher than the Celerio because I simply like the Ignis much better.

Having had lots of test driving experience of the Ignis and some of the Celerio, I would say that apart from a slightly "jumpy" rear suspension, the Ignis is a superior product. It has essentially remained unchanged since its launch, and as mentioned, is a much better city hatch than almost all others in the Maruti stables. I have shortlisted the Ignis multiple times over the years only to choose a superior alternative for other reasons, latest being last year, choosing its stablemate (Swift). But if the Ignis had 6 airbags, I would have thought a bit more seriously before putting the big zeros.
Ignis has more power, performance and practicality (ingress-egress) and a superior chassis too.

Hi,
I saw in the official UK website of Suzuki that they have only limited units left due to its discontinuation from JANUARY 2025. Suzuki has discontinued The IGNIS and the JIMNY in the Europe. Also found that only the last 600 odd units left for sale in the UK. I am not sure if this is the same case in India for 2025. I was expecting their discontinuation anytime from 2023 , so I urged to drive one home last January. Happily did 22,000 kms in my IGNIS ZETA AGS in less than an year.
